The audience reaction described just how everyone who witnessed that live felt at that moment. Gobsmacked.

Laura Pausini in the first act of the latest Eurovision was pretty awesome, too. But, maybe Riverdance takes the biscuit.

He was born and raised in America his parents were Irish Immigrants, and his mom was a champion Irish Step dancer, he became a middleweight boxer with five knockouts before he decided in the early 80s to do Irish dancing full-time. He was asked to come up with something for the intermission of Eurovision and helped create Riverdance.

Just incredible dancing. The first time I saw this I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The control, the athleticism is out of this world. The hair, I love. Actually that style for men or women was the 80’s. And for what they’re doing here it works perfectly.

I remember watching this as it happened. Usually the Eurovision interval act is something to be endured, or avoided as you go and put the kettle on or something, but this just blew my girlfriend and I away. At the end when the applause broke out we stood and clapped as well and just looked at each other like we'd seen something extraordinary. It really was a special moment of live tv that was totally unexpected.

It's too bad the video you chose skipped the vocals. That sets the mood for the whole thing. Not only that but there are captions that tell a bit of the story of how RD came to be the phenomenon it was.

During the end when the camera pans across the audience there is 1 woman in a red dress Her name is Mary Robinson In 1994 she was the President of Ireland. The first of the only 2 Female Presidents to ever hold the title.

no, it isn't .. The CCE made it a part of the outfit. I was a champion Irish dancer in the early 80s and this curly hair (wig) thing didn't exist.

it represents the river ... every dancer is a drop of water that become a trickle and then come together in a dance to form the river and they become rapids at times and meander down the mountain to the sea the river gets bigger, wider, and louder as it gains more trickles as it dances down the mountain.

@thomaspetersen28233 жыл бұрын
this wasn't part of the competition, but the interval act usually is used to portray some local culture, and since that years contest was in Ireland, they decided to showcase this, it became one of the most succesfull things ever to be featured in the song contest.
@ImStevan3 жыл бұрын
It was an interval act, after all acts perform, they need time to collect all the votes, so an interval act is in place to keep the audience entertained. The Eurovision Dance Contest also used to exist, but ran for only 2 years
