White primer and Nuln Oil over the bits that need black or detail and they are done. This method I find so counter intuitive. Painting grey figures black, then grey, then off white, then back to black details.....

So I gotta say, I think I’m gonna prefer your method for the priming and basecoat. I’ve done 1 squad that was primed white and then filled in with black and the most frustrating thing is getting the helmet detail to look good. I often have to go back X times to touch up areas that I screwed up trying to get the detail in. The whole reason I didn’t do prime black to begin with was I was worried that the white would be toned down a lot, but seeing what u have done and w the grey basecoat definitely looks good.

Another thing I like to do, for Stormtroopers as portraited in Ep. IV, is to paint a clear gloss over the armor parts to give them that shiny hard armor look. But, I also, always start with black primer.

I was worried priming in black and went with white for one of my sets. Think I will give the black primer on the next set!!

Just ordered my starter set and one squad is definitely gonna look like this

Nice! My plan was to white prime, hit the details with a dark grey, then a diluted nuln oil to darken them. This turned out really well though; making me rethink it. Then again, I already have 3 squads primed white so... I'd love to see how you speedpaint Rebels. I still don't have much of a plan for them yet.

Decent speed paint. Which ones will you spend more time on?

I spent more time on the speeder bikes but didn't record them - sometimes I just want to relax and paint without a camera. I will showcase them at some point.

@Crabbok, awesome tutorial. This coming from someone who has never painted miniatures. This is one of the reasons I was leaning against getting into LEGION, albeit a little misguided. Thanks for the tutorial. I may rethink my decision.

Fantastic tutorial! That looks amazing for the amount of time spent in painting. I can't wait to give the technique a shot. Also, the theme song at the end borders on genius. 😀

I wouldn't have primed them black, especially if it's supposed to be a speed paint. A lot simpler ways to get more effective results.

Alasdair Mackenzie black primer drybrushed looks terrible, you have to apply tons of white in order to get it opaque

Good stuff. Need all the painting help I can get. Of course my core set arrived yesterday, so mission this weekend is to get glue and paint.
