Animal Crossing is a perfect theme for Lego. It really invites you to create your own furniture and things like that out of your own spare bricks, that's definitely what I would've done had this been around when I was a kid.

Superb review as always. Though one note: Odd as it may seem, it’s not necessarily true that Animal Crossing was never designed with adults in mind. The creator designed the first game (originally on the N64 in Japan) because he was missing his family who were far away while he worked. So he came up with a concept for the whole family to share a village, a little world, where they could interact, even if not at the same time. This was done by leaving messages for each other, gifts, planting new trees, customizing the shared space, etc. Animal crossing has always been wholesome and kid friendly, though the GameCube original had a awesomely quirky sense of humor that was appreciated by adults, if not downright aimed at them. Some of that sense of humor and quirkiness remains today, though the villagers tend to get less grumpy or downright scary angry. Anyone who played the gamecube game will remember Mr. Resetti and give him the fearful respect he commands.

The overall design makes me think it's going to encourage 2 types of collectors: 1) double-up and close the gaps. A) close of the opens spaces B) improve overall "graphics" effect. 2) modular vignettes. A) line a shelf with a "street" of these. B) add more foliage and terrain for much cheaper.

I think it's going to appeal most to the forgotten type 3: kids ;)

I am so happy to see these sets sell really well so we can be sure more will come! I am absolutly blown away by this theme, but wish they used 8x8 plates everywhere instead of smaller ones. Lego would be stupid if next year we will not have CMF line for Villagers.

At first I was only going to get this set from the Animal Crossing line. I ended up picking up this one and Bunnies set and I fell in love. Now the only two I haven't bought is Julian's birthday and the poly bag, which I haven't been able to find (It was sold out when I tried to get it as a gift with purchase). Building these sets brought me back to playing Animal Crossing and every time I walk past my sets on my table I rearrange them a little bit. This is what I love about Lego. This line is fantastic and I need more!

I want to say it was Bag 14 from the recent Himeji Castle set also had a giant oversized bag when the parts would fit in a much smaller bag. The parts fill up about 1/3 of the bag.

I'd say it's worth it, considering the 'old' rule I still follow of 10 cents a piece. I've watched several playthroughs of this game and it's pretty neat. I'll certainly buy this one whenever the hype calms down and I can find one. I always forget about Fabuland, but when I see it, it makes me want to get the entire collection. Most of my Lego purchases have always been Star Wars sets, so these are a bit different.

I love this one. It has the most easter eggs from the video game to satisfy, and it feels the best value for price to me, besides Bunnie's set maybe. But this one scratches the Lego Animal Crossing itch for me the best.
@tylertichoc73308 ай бұрын
This is yet another classic instance of a licensed theme's art style translating PERFECTLY into Lego form. And to think that this very set originally started off as an Ideas entry. Looks like we got our wish after all. I hope someday they add a Zipper T Bunny figure and have the head actually able to be removed and a regular Minifigure head underneath in all black with two little ominously glowing gold dots for the eyes. As a reference to the joke inside the Animal Crossing community about Zipper being some Eldridge Horror too terrifying for the mortal soul to comprehend. This is because of the infamous initial Easter Egg Event that happened back in 2020 when the game New Horizons first launched. That would just be the perfect little inside joke acknowledged and show a little bit of class and closeness to the people who get the set on Lego's part. They could even add some collapsing and exploding structures with Easter eggs getting launched out.😅

Not just that the target range should be kids, but this set and the one with Tom Nook especially should be drawing in even the AC fans who haven't touched Lego in 20 years if ever. New AFOLS might not want to put together a $500 Hogwarts. My first set after my dark age was a $60 Ninjago mech. This is a little simpler, but still in that range.
@mackerel60998 ай бұрын
I think the sets are great. The emphasis on play and customization is really great amidst the shift happening towards pristine display. I get that older fans aren’t happy with them, but it’s LEGO, if they want to make display worthy models they can especially since LEGO just produced some nice prints and molds with these sets. The sets do what they’re supposed to do, and I hopefully it marks the beginning of a shift back towards the impermanence of lego.

It's good to finally hear something positive about this series of sets. Most of Reddit don't like what LEGO decided to do with it. Thank you -- this Lego series is lovely, I appreciate your taking an interest in it. The childlike innocence is so soothing and uplifting. I don't know Animal Crossing myself, but the sets are beautiful. Personally, a close family member and I would have been over-joyed if they'd produced a good Charlie Brown Lego series (of Charles Schultz's "Peanuts"), but that trademark is so jealously guarded that something like that might never happen ...

What I'll never understand with these Animal Crossing sets is that Nook's shop wasn't a standalone set. Why does it include a random villagers house, and mean it's twice the price? They could have sold SO many Nook shops for about $30-$40 if it was just the shop.

There's been a lot of buzz about the Animal Crossing theme being a spiritual successor to Fabuland and I am all for it. I hope some day to build buildings and vehicles inspired by old Fabuland sets in the colors and styles of the original Fabuland, but to Minifigure scale utilizing the Animal Crossing Minifigures as the stand-in for the original Fabuland Minifigures. Especially if I have no qualms placing heads on different torsos and legs, so it's not just "Fauna Character x10" but rather "Random Fabuland Citizens". It'd be so fun to build in those vibrant 1980s color pallets again, but this time with more modern pieces and different shades of the basic colors to really make MOCs just pop. I can already see it now. Tom Nook's head and tail is already a great start for a Ricky Raccoon equivalent. I can't wait to get more characters, especially since the head molds of some can be recolored/reprinted to be other characters. We already have a rabbit (Bunnie), squirrel (Marshall), and cat (Rosie) for example, so I already have some high hopes for variants to pop up as blind bags some day.

Just for those who envy day-1-discounts outside the US: AC-Sets are the ones that are (for now) LEGO exclusive in Germany, so we can't expect discounts until clearance sales. But, in case of the AC theme, rather than that, LEGO will just not re-stock shelves and warehouses before EOL, given that this exact set was SOLD out online in week 1 and the Warehouse in Belgium had to re-order X). Exclusivity is also the reason why I won't buy set 77050 which is obnoxiously overpriced compared to this one. TL; DR: the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
