Mecabricks has a great pipeline and community that's resulted in the lego animations today.

I use Mecabricks, it is free and comes with pre-rigged and textures minifigures, as well as most LEGO bricks. It doesn’t have free face rigs though.

Nice tutorial. Quite a long time ago I started building my own Lego minfigure, but then I got distracted and didn't do anything further with it... to all you crying "Mecabricks" now: I wanted to model it myself ;) Just one thing: the rotation axes of the arms are slightly angled according to the slant of the torso. So having the bone just pointing down vertically is not giving the correct rotation.

It's why you use local instead of global

In case of the arms the bones in his tutorial are pointing straight down, so also the local orientation coordinates are aligned with the global coordinates - the local axes might point in different directions, but they are not slanted according to the torso to which they are connected. So in reality the rotation axis points a bit upward, not straight horizontal to the side.

I know you probably won’t answer to this but i have my fingers crossed cuz i need help really bad. so for over 3 months, blender hasnt been working properly. Every time i switch to cycles it crashes the program. Even if i delete every item in the scene and switch to cycles, it crashes. i have searched the whole internet looking for a solution. I’m really hoping you or someone else might know the problem. but this is very vital that i get this fixed, because my whole channel is kinda being run off of my animations, and i haven’t been able to post in a long time. (more info js in case- i also cleared my storage and made sure i have available storage on my pc. and it still doesn’t work)

I had some crashing problems sometimes it can be because your using a beta version all I did was updated to the newest stable version of blender or just download it again and reinstall that stopped the issue, however crashes like that can be due to your GPU not being able to handle the scene so ensure its optimized if there is no scene at all then i really don't know about that. This problem can be due to alot of factors so I am really not sure which it is exactly.

@@shamaiahellis8810 yea i have checked for updates, and even re installed it and restarted my pc, and everything and it still won’t work. my gpu never had the issue before so i don’t know what’s wrong and it’s really annoying😂

Love your stuff, been using your stopmo addon for quite a while now! But this really is the most complicated way to animate Lego in Blender dude 😭 There is Mecabricks for parts with materials and the EpicFigRig to rig your figure in less than a second If you want to make it yourself, that's totally valid but you should at least mention that there are way easier ways

I think* it’s about the how to and Lego is very defined so it makes for a clear lesson.. Id go the easy route too if I needed Lego specifically

Hey on mecabricks when i export a minifigure to blender (using a blender zmbx file) and then I go to blender and press import, mecabricks doesn't appeal on the list so I can't upload anything to blender. Does anyone know why or know a fix? Thank u

Lego minifigs have a lot more motion than you are showing here, for instance stop-motion animators will use a bit of putty or blu-tac to keep the arms in place and allow the minifig's arms to be crossed or just in an unexpected orientation
