Sorry to be a stickler, but "8 studs high" and "8 bricks high" are different measurements. 2 studs height-wise are equal to 5 plates (1 and 2/3 bricks).

Floors in Real Buildings have different hights aswell. Your apartment building looks like it was a factory building in the past and got reused. They had really high sealings in those buildings and those are often reused for high priced apartments, since high sealings are not often made in buildings, that are build for apartments from the beginning. I really think u should leave it the way it is

@@BevinsBricksWorld Was about to suggest maybe placing it not directly adjacent to another building but maybe a small park or something, to make direct comparisons more difficult for the eye. At least in europe, though, turn of the century town houses did have some seriously high ceilings, large windows etc. And those that retained old windows and ceiling plasterwork etc. are now seriously high priced.

I think you should keep the bigger building. It looks good and in my country building floors aren't the same size. There is a clear difference. But this is your city and you can do anything you want.

What would you use for a 1/64 scal (hotwheels) scale? I would greatly appreciate your insight :)
@BevinsBricksWorld
@BevinsBricksWorld Жыл бұрын
That's a really good question for hotwheels cars I would reference the old 1960s Lego sets as that was what the used. A good example is the vintage town plan set 246-1 it was from 1961 and actually came with 2 hot wheel sized cars
@LutzDerLurch
@LutzDerLurch 4 жыл бұрын
My issues with scale are that the 'lego-standard' has the houses all somewhat too small for the minifigs, especially the interiors. They seem to hold on to a certain slace only accounting for the height of the (in profortion) way to stubby and fat figures. Which creates tiny rooms and cramped places...kinds 'cute' for toy figures, but not exactly a nice scale. If we go by width of the figures, buildings would have to be much larger and more expensive. So a sort of compromise would likely be the best. Also, in buildings, there are conventions on modern room heights, but especially the turn-of-the-century town houses used to often have ceilings much higher than today.
@LutzDerLurch
@LutzDerLurch 4 жыл бұрын
@@BevinsBricksWorld Since I likely won't win the lottery, AND Britain is self sabotaging with brexit, I might want to build my dream home from LEGO instead, and scale is one tricksy bit. Also the finer details of 18th C. georgian architecture. The sash windows are my main problem, yet to be solved. And then how to brickbuild reasonable approximations of the interior walls, like that fancy pale blue paneling. And THEN how to do old style furniture, that looks like refines elegant furniture :/

@@BevinsBricksWorld thanks. I wonder ho thick I need to make the exterior and interior walls, to have different 'sides'...3 studs seems like a minimum, to allow 1 stuf for each wall surface and a stud for contingency and/or structural stuff..
@LutzDerLurch
@LutzDerLurch 4 жыл бұрын
@@BevinsBricksWorld luckily enough, georgian country houses don't often come with many arches. As they are larger than a regular farmhouse or village dwelling, though, they have stout walls in reality, too. Snot techniques likely are the way to go, but sometimes require a bit of space, so that's why I wondered if 3 might be a decent thicknes. more or less 1 stud space 'budget' for each face of the wall plus the middle one for extra space required by complicated constructions or stabilisation.

@@BevinsBricksWorld Basically this facade www.alamy.com/stock-photo-german-school-london-richmond-surrey-petersham-road-petersham-greater-97387939.html I like the versions of facade and interior without overly heavy decoration, but unfortunately, the restricted yet refined things are particularly difficult to pull off. So much depends on small variations, ledges and proportions...

good video, I use 8 studs and 2 plates for my building so they are quite high but that was the height I set as my standard when I started building MOCs, Having said that it will save some bricks if I do take a row of bricks out from each floor so I will try that and see how it looks, it will save me quite a few bricks lol.

This was rely good. It's nice to know that there is some kind of standard when you/we build buildings for a Lego city or town. But can you look at the bottom floor on some of the modulars. I think some of them have higher bottom floor, like 9-10 bricks in height. Or am I wrong?

Another great video. A standard is something I stuggled with all the time when I started soing mocs. Mostly vwhicle mocs. Once I got a standard set and stuck with it I found it easier to do mocs and come up with ideas. So for me I can totally understand having a standard to build around. As always thanks again for sharing.

@@BrickBakery i have just recently started doing building mocs myself but yes. To keep everything in scale for my buoldings so far none of the floors are over 8 studs tall with the exception of my fire stations ground floor. I would personally leave the apartment building as is. It adds variety to a city. Little less uniform looking. In actual cities there are buildings that have taller individual floors than others. Maybe see how it fits with ones you are currently working on and if it looks weird then redo it. Just my opinion
