Since everyone is talking about weird colors they've seen in bionicle, i have been reminded of a few. Like how Thok uses what i think was the Mindstorms NXT off-white for most of his pieces. And how the rahkshi colored shells (head, back, and feet) all inexplicably have this subtle glossy pearlescent sheen that I've never seen mentioned before

some dark red pieces also have two distinct shades they come in. really tripped me up the first time I noticed it in my collection.

Oh yeah other colors having very noticeable variants is wild too!

So the mystery remains unsolved. I thought with the picture in the thumbnail you might mention this error I found ages ago. When they were new I received a Tarix set with three of the pearl gold inika shoulder plates depicted in the thumbnail. one of them though was notably paler and more translucent, I don't know if the color is an injection or a lacquer, the error would be much easier to explain away as a thin coat if it was the latter. It's such a strange mistake that I don't think I've ever seen since, my current shelf copy of tarix doesn't have that problem.

Brutaka's Metru thigh pearl gold armour pieces are weirdly pale and semi-translucent!
@shaldurprime7154Ай бұрын
@LegsON I don't know, it's possible probably. But it'd be really weird to have a batch mix up of plastics produced 3 or 4 years apart
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
I also have an example that is much more transparent. I added the two colors of pearl gold which while it isn't exactly know if an Inika armor exists in both, around 2015 Lego's pearl gold could appear in a noticably darker shade, which will probably show up in a future video, and likely has already

i had to get a replacement for my bulk's arm, it was a canister bulk and was pearl light grey, but i couldve sworn the replacement was flat silver
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
That would make sense, the latter half of the year saw Bulk parts released in flat silver, and so you may have received one from that later batch of parts! Ever pieces from Bulk 1.0 comes in both shades with I believe the exception of the fist from the canister set, which only came in Pearl Light Gray

@@skybirdmakes I actually own a flat silver Bulk 1.0 and his fist -is- flat silver too!

@@skybirdmakes Seconded on the flat silver 1.0 fist, I’ve got two of them

The flat gold is my favorite for bionicle parts! I remember Toa Lhikan, his dark red and flat gold was astonishing at the time. And among the golds, it´s the only one who feels like an actual metal. There´s not a plastic sheen, any color swirling, non-metallic pigments. It feels Real and expensive contra the toyish yellow "golds".

I've had the fun scenario recently of only having 2 gunmetal parts left for a moc, and they're both different shades. Interesting bit of lego history in this vid!
@Hornet9716Ай бұрын
I miss the classic 03 Gunmetal, the greenish hue gave it a personality thats missing in both of its replacements- though maybe its just my association with the dark metal and greenish hue on the movie Teridax model making it feel more fitting for "shadow" characters than the more standard blueish hue of the modern color.

About Vezok, I possess his harpoon in both colors so Vezok also includes this feature

Hey so 1st off I love your channel so much! and I recently got a pretty random idea that may peak ur interest (completely unrelated to ur recent vids) which im not sure is possible but wanna run by you since ur the 1st that came to mind. Long story short Im a massive exo force fan and want to put together the lost jungle battle machine the Jungle Thrasher. Its totally possible to acquire the parts and its been done before, but I want to find a way to replicate the decals somehow and was wondering if you thought it was possible by any means and if so how would u go about it?
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
I would have to take a close look at the decals themselves but it is totally doable! If it were me, the first thing I would do is get the dimensions of the piece intended to be covered by decals, then I would open an Image editor (I use Paint dot net, but anything works) I would then create a new image matching dimensions to the decals I need, then I would moc up a design to match those stickers. Something else that could be worthwhile would be to take this image and create a vector based image of it to smooth the lines, but this is really only necessary if the original dimensions are small. Anyway, once that is done, you can do one of two things, send the file to a company that creates custom stickers and get a sheet created, or print stickers directly onto sticker paper and cut them out by hand. These are the most practical ways I can think of to add decals to physical sets!
