These pieces still being in production I fully believe is because lego has mandated that if they're going to make a bigger specialized mold like that it needs to be used for more than just a one off purpose. Now I will admit this is something I'm kind of extending to these pieces because it's been kind of a personal theory for why ninjago has reused so many of the dragon head molds over the past few years when in the past we saw a lot more individuality among dragon heads. But the timeline matches up cause the island/seabound wave is when we first started to see heavy reuse of the dragon head molds.

I think the StarWars imperial guard shoulder would’ve suited Pohatu’s feet better but that piece might be retired. They might do something similar to G2 where he has handheld weapons that turn into foot extensions. Honestly I like the idea of giving them both G1 weapons and alternative weapons or tools that makes sense for them to carry around. Here’s my basic ideas: Tahu: long sword and hoverboard Kopaka: sword/shield and mace Lewa: axes and crossbow Onua: claws and giant shovel Gali: hooks and trident Pohatu: armoured shoes and throwing knives This is what I came up with but I’m sure everyone else has better ideas…

if bionicle were to come back i'd personally want a limited reproduction run of the original toa mata sets, canisters included, and sell them as collectors items. they're not going to be cheap, maybe $25 or above per set, but it could offset the price of remaking the molds + packaging. i'm pretty sure there's no precedent for Lego to do something like meticulously reproducing old sets, which would def open up pandora's box, but it's not totally out of the realm of possibility.
@skybirdmakes22 күн бұрын
I think Lego has done a few re-releases or reimagined sets, but not many. I personally would love to see McDonald's Matoran make a return as blind bags!! Aside from masks, there would only be a foot, body, a head, and arm mold (assuming they exclude disks) So few molds for something that could essentially be a blind bag/gatcha gift would be incredible. Plus if Lego leaned into the silly side of offering sets, they could release them with hats, head, body, or hand accessories! Would could add a lot of variation as well as backwards compatibility with old mctoran! (Just make the hands have axle holes this time!)

Bionicle will return at least in cameos, easter eggs in other sets or get the occasional one-off anniversary set. As a full fledged reboot I'm skeptical but hopeful Lego can pull off a G3 without too many issues. Never underestimate the power of a dedicated fanbase.
@The_Dinosaur_HereticАй бұрын
If Bionicle does come back, LEGO can’t take risks. This means small, cheap system sets with very few specialised pieces; think the Tahu GWP set. If LEGO goes down that route, there’s great opportunity for useful recoloured system parts that non-Bionicle fans can utilise. Having cheap sets means kids would likely buy them with pocket money, engaging the younger market. Money that LEGO could have spent on specialised moulds can then be pumped back into marketing. I think the parts you showed are too specialised and wouldn’t fit a Bionicle aesthetic. They’re also large, meaning they’d have to fit on a large Bionicles. Large sets will cost more money, and are therefore a large risk
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
I think with as profitable as Lego is, they could take risks if they wanted too. but realistically a new Bionicle line would rely on existing or modified versions of existing parts, introducing likely very few new parts compared to a given year in G1! That said you should check out my latest video, where I go over how 3 pieces could make up a theoretical G3

@The_Dinosaur_HereticАй бұрын
@@skybirdmakes While that’s true, you have to consider how different 2000’s LEGO was compared to now. New moulds are introduced in the modern day IF they are useful in other themes; the amount of blade pieces shared between Monkie Kid and Ninjago validates their creation. Furthermore, they see use beyond the year in which they were developed. Alternatively, specialised pieces are put behind a significant markup so LEGO can make a positive return on investment (Ornithopter blade/Cole’s Titan Dragon Mech katana come to mind). Back then though, LEGO wasn’t nearly as profitable, so they had the capacity to create new pieces for single sets sometimes. There are no recolours of Lewa’s axe because it only came in that set in that colour. In later Bionicle years, it was rare for masks to be reused or recoloured. However, introducing 1 x 2 curved slopes or 1 x 2 inverted brackets in medium blue in a GWP-style G3 Gali set, for example, would be incredibly useful for system moccists, and they’d see use outside of Bionicle in official system sets. By introducing new recolours of sought after pieces in hypothetical Bionicle sets, it immediately draws in sales from the majority of system fans, especially if they’re a cheaper alternative to buying a $500 set that features that piece in a smaller quantity. This brings me to my next point about your proposed pieces. While you only developed three new parts, you also admit that LEGO would have to develop new feet pieces, masks, heads, and maybe weapons. Unless these elements see use in other themes or persistent use in Bionicle G3, then your proposed system won’t work. Especially if the latter guideline is adhered to, then you risk homogeneity between Bionicle sets. One of the biggest setbacks to LEGO’s current buildable action figures is how samey they all are. Builds for The Green Goblin and Spider-Man, for example, are basically the exact same thing to me. The iconicity of the characters isn’t enough to convince me to purchase them (they’re also ridiculously expensive for what they are). I guarantee others feel the same way because I always see these kits fully stocked in the LEGO aisle. Bionicle G1 failed because of weak sockets in 2008, 2009, and 2010, which deterred kids from buying them. Hero Factory failed because it wasn’t Bionicle. Bionicle G2 failed because of a lack of marketing. No one bought the Star Wars CCBS figures because they were ugly, so CCBS failed because there was no more flagship themes to pioneer it. We know this because we’re Bionicle fans; it’s part of our lore. However, general LEGO fans don’t understand why these themes/subthemes capsized, so they’ll immediately assume it’s because they’re not system pieces. I guarantee you LEGO knows this. All of these factors make a Bionicle G3 near impossible outside of small, cheap system sets with very few specialised pieces.

I feel like Lego would be hesitant to go full ccbs, and would probably want to keep some system integration to avoid making to many new molds. If LEGO will screw up the 25th anniversary as they screwed up the 20th, the 30th will be problematic, because it will happen too close to the 100th LEGO anniversary and LEGO would be probably too focussed on making something for boomers instead to properly honor the series which saved the company in 2004... Seeing Bionicle return would be very fun, but my question is why? Why bring it back after the failure of G2? Isn't the reboot's short-lived time on shelves a sign to LEGO that Bionicle no longer has the staying power it once did?
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
That's a good question but I think G2 dies for more Lego reasons then Bionicle reasons specifically. The theme has tens, if not hundreds of thousands of active fans still floating around, but Lego did not handle it's second generation, or the atmosphere it existed in (like other competitive toy lines) very well
@lukestarkiller1470Ай бұрын
I would definitely love if this turned out to be true. They have a very different art direction from Bionicle but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It could lead to a very fresh aesthetic if they made everything else match it. But either way I’ve been using these pieces in my own Bionicle Mocs and they’re great! So even if they’re not intended for Bionicle they’re still great pieces for Bionicle fans to be getting.

Bionicle will never come back. Lego, basically, has 2 original series: city and Ninjago. All other stuff is licensed. And company makes hell of a ton profit. Why on earth they will need to bring old series back and spend money on lore, promotion and story if they make more profit with licenced products?

@@Thinginator and it's profits are compatible with star wars or superheroes?
@ThinginatorАй бұрын
@nurglecultist2521 Compatible, yes. LEGO can sell multiple themes simultaneously, including original ones, and make money from all of them, as they cover a broader audience that way. If you meant comparable, probably not, but that still doesn't make it not profitable or worthwhile. You can only sell so much Star Wars or superheroes in a year... Monkie Kid is hugely successful outside of the US, it's basically China's Ninjago. LEGO can make more money from their original IPs as they don't have to pay royalties, so it remains worth their time to create and promote original themes like Dreamzzz regardless of whether it makes as many sales as Star Wars. Because not everyone likes Star Wars sets.

bro is the biggest coper, like bruh I think everyone wants Bionicle back, but like, objectively, the industry isn't in the place for Bionicle. Bionicle is a teenager-oriented line, they can not be popular among younger children because the idea of bionicle is "too edgy", and it's not fitting for older audiences, which looks for larger, visually impressive sets not playable sets.
