LEGO City 60422 Seaside Harbor with Cargo Ship - LEGO Speed Build Review

I know people prefer the previous ones, but this set has more pieces than 2007 and 2011 combined. I think it's a cool set with tons of features : A crane with Containers compatible with Trains, a restaurant, an ice cream parlour, a beach, a Fisher and his ponton, little walk water front, a Cargo boat you actually build... The kiddo will be overjoyed to connect it to his cargo train set.

The crates are compatible, but the crane isn't I do not know how you get them off the dock as a play feature. I think it is lacking. Also no truck. I prefer that we have a true cargo harbor and perhaps a marina, they did such a set before with a restaurant and racing boats. It does not have to be always so fused.

The build is fine. The problem is it’s trying to do two things at once and fails to achieve either one. If I was a 12 year old and saw this set versus the 2007 or 2011 versions, I would have selected the other two. Why? Simple: the 2007 and 2011 sets had floating cargo boats and felt like they were a part of a true, industrial harbor. Both had large boats that carried a large amount of cargo and could float. Both had an interesting harbor layout (the 2007 having a large harbor layout and the 2011 having a detailed loading and unloading system. Both had land vehicles to transport their goods. Both had a consistent tone to them; that being they were _industrial harbors._ I think this set would be much better if the piece count for the restaurant, beach, and small section of wharf were spent towards enlarging the cargo vessel, adding a loading/unloading ramp, and on a truck to haul the cargo to and from the harbor. Instead, having the restaurant, beach, and wharf section in its own seaside set, which could be made compatable the cargo harbor.

Doubtless, however, I do think kids will still enjoy this set; even with its flaws. It’s still a good build. It’s just - as an older LEGO City fan - this set comes off as disappointing.

@@MatthewChenault Im from the 80s/90s lego era. And really we had great sets in that era. 6541 & 6542 are far superior to this set in terms of being a cargo harbor. I own 6543 which is the Marina harbor. Trust me that set is miles ahead of what this does for leisure. It even has a drydock for the speedsboats so your mechanic can work on the boats, the customer buyer place actually sells items like it does in this new set. And has a bar with a table outside so figures can watch the race. There is also a Octan workshop and a truck! That is what leisure should look like. The area in this new set is just tiny. And we have a beach guard station with beach just a year and a half ago. As for 6541/2 both sets are miles ahead compared to this new cargo part of the set in terms of play value. It is just no competition.

The 2007-2011 set was better but is good thing that Lego is getting back on expanded city sets, more ships, more trains, the directions with constructions sets seems good, hopefully it extendeds to the rest of the sets. Thanks ABF for bringing these reviews!

I’ll be honest, they didn’t need the fisherman’s shack there for a harbor set like this. If I was designing this set, I’d have excluded that (or made it a unique set) and instead would have spent the resources into providing - at the very least - a larger cargo ship build. Alternatively, I would have reused the moderate-sized hull set and made a floating cargo ship; similar to the 2011 set, but designed for cargo crates. The harbor - itself - is a pretty great build; the crane is fantastic as well. It’s simply the boat that leaves a lot more to be desired.

I agree,but if you buy several more of these sets,you can lengthen the docks and build a bigger ship. You can also build( with leftover pieces,) a couple of tug boats........

As a fan i consider this set a failure as the whole current city concept as well - first they make that abdominous 100€ overpriced semi and then offer us a “harbour” with a tiny boat and questionable structures, why couldn’t they just remake the proper sized 7994 from 2007? Ridiculous designs and then you lose sales. The only great 2024 sets so far are construction ones, they should also release the proper tower crane as well.
