Lego City Lifeguard Truck and Tower MOD - sets 60328 and 60453

This is a solid build. I like taking the aestethic from the original but adjusting size and functionality for the most part. It is a bit plain looking for a modestly sized building, but by adding all the detail from the beach this is not a huge issue. The only thing I would consider changing in a larger city or diorama, is making sure the truck is parked outside of the tower, as you can barely see it this way and I have to say this is not a truck that needs to be hidden, it looks pretty realistic. I would also add a few seagulls, as they tend to be very present at most beaches :) Thanks for the video, it was fun!

@@pinobluevogel6458 you might not think it necessary for the life guard truck to be hidden under the tower but that means the red parts of it stay out of the sun.

LOL! yes, because the new tower is so wide, there's no support in the middle of the 4x12 plates! It's structurally sound, but does flex a bit if you press in the middle, for example if you press a chair on them !!!!! - Thanks for commenting.

@@MinifigJezI’d have dismantled the original and used the 4x10 plates underneath to add more stability.

Looks really nice! Now I got some more nice ideas for my beach build I´m planning! Going to do a beach promanade with som stalls selling Ice cream and slushies. But a nice life guard tower is a must.

As you can see in the Video, I actually used all new pieces to build the tower, which I either already had, or I bought. So having the original set isn't essential. Have fun building.

love the build keep up the great work, you should add antennas so that the lifeguards can communicate with each other, and you should make a small building which can sell all the beach supplies and the ice cream. Lego should Definitely Hire you to work for them, Lego should also release a Lego Lifeguard Boat with a Trailer plus just a causal pickup truck in red or blue as just a standard car for minifigures. :)

YES... I thought about putting some aerials on top, but then completely forgot all about them when doing the video!!! - thanks for reminding me. There was a whole Lifeguard seres, with a few boats. the biggest was 7726 Coast Guard Truck with Speed Boat. Ive got a few of the smaller ones, but not the big one. I really like the new Lego city lifeguard truck. I plan to buy the set in the next few months. I do have the lifeguard station somewhere in my room. I think that they go well together.

Love these mod videos. Personally I prefer a cleaner look so would tile the roof and brown balustrade. Becoming one of my favourite Lego KZbinrs. Where do you get extra original sticker sheets you mentioned?

Thanks, that's very kind of you to say. I like tiled surfaces, but on this one, I wanted to keep the "City" look! You can buy sticker sheets from Bricklink.com. You just need to look up the set you want, look at it's inventory, and the sticker sheet is normally the very first item in the inventory. The truck is too new to have been inventoried yet, but to Gove you the idea, the list for the tower is here: www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=60328-1 I hope that helps.

If you remove the rear support of the tower, the truck can drive in from the rear ready to drive out the front when called into action.

and... the tower would fall down !!! It's already spanning quite a big gap, and you can see the floor flex when I pushed down the chair inside, I think if I get rid of the only column in the middle, it would be too weak.

the truck reminds me of an old set that carried 2 atv's. one in the trailer, and one in the bed. forgot the set name but you probably know what it is.

Yes! I hadn’t made that connection myself, but I know exactly what you mean. They are quite similar especially in the way they use curved slopes to get wider. It was set: 60148 ATV Race Team. It came out in 2017, and I bought one at the Legoland hotel in April 2018. I wasn’t bothered with the ATVs, but the truck’s black and grey colour scheme looked really cool. Thanks, I'm glad you liked the MOD. Re: the life preserver... it's at the same height as on the original set. I'd say that maybe the new location is slightly MORE accessible, as on the original set, the minifigs had to climb up a ladder to reach it, but on the MOD it's at arm height on the stairs. But I they have all the other ones on the truck too, which is more likely to be used on the beach.

Great build. Will you be adding one of those duplicate buoy bonnet stickers to the top of the tower? I picked up the Ice Cream Vendor to complete the set begun with Ice Cream Truck Police Chase (60314). A trio of henchmen, to go with the Vidiyo Ice Cream Saxophonist. I'd call them the Cornetto Trilogy, but that - oh, wait! The Nutty Ninety-Nine! Like Kill Bill! Phew.

(If you're referencing LEGO City Adventures, I've never watched it, so I don;t know any of the characters)

@@MinifigJez I watched the series a bit. There’s four seasons on Netflix and I’ve seen them all. One reason for collecting the city sets for me was to get the named characters from the series and I managed to get a lot of them. The other was the building sets that came with road plates.

Lovely result, but I feel like you rushed the brick use choices making the build not that sturdy. I finally love the way you’ve put together the stairs. I find the stairs piece to be a very interesting piece.

I see what you mean about part choices. I think part of the problem was going for a 12x16 size, if I’d just gone for 16x16 it would have been much easier, I think the grey plates are a weak point and some of the white bricks. but when it’s together it’s fine, and it’ll never get “played with” just displayed, so I’m happy. HOWEVER… if I turn it. into Rebrickable instructions, I’ll definitely have to work on it a bit first.

I’m planning a pick a brick order that includes the pieces to do this mod but I’ll be using the large plates from the original (and everything else in it) to add more strength underneath.

@ I just realised the 4x10 and 6x10 plates may be better on top with the white acting as a carpet because with them below the lifeguard truck wouldn’t be able to be tucked in.

2022 was a very good year for City buildings! I hadn't actually noticed that I'd modified so many from that year, but now you mention it, I make it SIX that I've modified... - 40578 Sandwich Shop - 60320 Fire Station - 60328 Beach Lifeguard Station - 60329 School Day - 60330 Hospital - 60347 Grocery Store The only other buildings that I actually own from that year are: - 60346 Barn & Farm Animals - 60335 Train Station - 60344 Chicken Henhouse (maybe not a building?!?!?!?!?) Plus the space sets with buildings from that year. I'm not sure what else would be good for Modifying, apart from the Train station, unless I buy one of the other buildings. What set do you think would be good to MOD?

@@MinifigJez I don’t know about the farm or space sets but all that’s left from your to do list I see is the Train Station and I still have yet to learn how to modify the EV HQ, Downtown, Apartment Building sets and the 2021 city buildings except for the skate park. I suggest you buy the Bank Chase, Police Station and Fire Brigade sets online for potential mods too.

@@mattbartels I think I have the fire station set already. I do like the Bank Chase set, but it's REALLY expensive as I only want the building and none of the vehicles. But I'll keep a lookout for the building on its own on eBay. And I STILL need to find out WHERE my EV HQ set is !!!!

@@MinifigJez The fire brigade set is actually an abandoned sardine factory. Also when I looked at the barn in the set 60346 I realised it could use some modifications like eight studs deeper and a staircase to get to the beds when it’s time to turn in for the night.

If you listen at 13:38 I used virtually ALL of the original parts. There were only the big plates and a few other bits that I didn't use... but as I fortunately had two of the original sets, so I didn't have to take the original set apart.

Yes unfortunately. It was only sold from 1st Jan 2022 to 31st December 2022, BUT... It hasn't;t increased in value much, and you can often see them for sale for not much more than they originally cost, on ebay etc.
