This set is WAY better than bigger base! I would buy 3-4 of these and connect them, upgrade them for different facilities. The set itself is great partpack, and just add like 4+ set and you can have some amazing moc setup already!
@WarpigA239 ай бұрын
This is fantastic. For the "empty" section, just move the battery and its console to that section. Or you could use the parts from the hoverbike to build something to put there. Or put the kitchenette there, so one astronaut can eat without disturbing the one who's sleeping. The spare parts could also be used to add some detail.

Okay, the tiny alien the astronauts seemingly adopted and put into his own spacesuit is hella cute!

I'd love to get multiple of this set and make a large research facility or space colony. The built-in modularity easily supports something like that, and the price is low enough that it'd actually be pretty affordable
@NeonSupernovaUPW9 ай бұрын
For what it is, I think it’s a great value. Even more so for those who have the larger base set to go with it. Leaving the interior space for customization is also good, even if it would have been nice to have components included to flesh it out a bit more. Leaves room to store all of the excess equipment from the rest of the line. 😂 Great review, Jang! I enjoyed watching the live build on Twitch.

I'd like to see more sets like this - relatively small, but can be merged into large structure. For younger kids its hard to fully construct a large set, but this size should be ok.
@Infinity-lc4eq9 ай бұрын
I would have absolutely loved this when I was younger, I was always very disappointed that they didn't do Lego space anymore! I'm glad it's back but I've kinda stopped buying Lego now, I've moved onto model railways! This set does look pretty empty, but plenty of room to put your own stuff in which is more than I can say for most Lego sets with interiors! I might have to get this one!

I get why there is so little detail seeing how 3 out of 4 walls have some type of door you can put figures thru
@ApotheosisRose9 ай бұрын
Personally, I'm ok wtih sacrificing some interior detail for the ability to fully close the structure. That in and of itself just adds so much value.
@mbphilipblack89939 ай бұрын
So glad they've done this as I don't like the look of the more expensive space base could buy multiple of these and moc them into a little colony, one for science, a Library, a cellular farm, play/games room, houses, a restaurant and of course a LEGO store.

I appreciate Lego for incorporating figures which are differently abled in more sets, but to a chair bound astronaut on an alien planet is just silly, especially considering there's not even a suggestion of an air tank printed on the torso for him to breathe since a wearable tank wouldn't work with the wheel chair. If anything, a buildable chair to accomodate some air tanks. Also doesn't seem like there's much room for that chair inside the habitat. Even as a kid 30+ years ago playing with space sets and creating my own MOCs I knew to make my ships and habitats air tight and put air tanks on all the astronauts who would be exposed to the vacuum of space or alien environments. It also seems odd to me that Legobsociety has mastered interstellar travel, but haven't figured out a better mobility option for a differently abled astronaut. That's my nitpick, on top of the huge lack of any real playability or even purpose for what this habitat/lab is supposed to serve.

@dgray37717 ай бұрын
Great price to part ratio in this set. 560 pieces for that price. And I do not detect that much small stuff. I'm not a ptp ratio guy though because large parts or studs do not equal in manufacturing cost or material cost. It's always silly how people cry about it when the ptp ratio isn't exactly how they want it. Yet with this set I detect little amounts of really small pieces. It looks great for what it is. It's an addon piece. You can use the modules from the bigger space station and the large surface base to make a huge base. What I would like to see is something like a T section. If they made something like a charging station for larger vehicles with perhaps a small rover. And have like hoses to connect to the bigger vehicles they could make a larger rectangular front with a T section on it. I could design it myself though but I'm not that great a builder. I'm just thinking like that would make a great addition.

Great set for the price. I wont be against a proper lab instead of the bed area but oh well. I dont like that we get the dark_blue pilot twice in the line especially since this is already the easiest of the "leaders" to get with the pretty affordable Interstellar Spaceship
@spoonsrattling8 ай бұрын
This is how i prefer sets. Even thiugh the interior is mostly plain, i certsinly dont mind. As a kid my custom builds wwre almost always empty with like a chest or tsble to leave as much space as possible for play, mainly combat but this would still be great.

Feels a lot like Mass Effect's prefabbed bases, especially the research center in ME2: Arrival DLC with the reaper artifact in the lobby. I think the lack of detail is excusable for that price, and just a few SNOT bricks or brackets with printed tiles or vent tiles could liven this up. That's what Lego's all about. so many play features and a satisfying built. If I had any interest in the sci-fi stuff this year, this would be a must have. Might get it anyway.

Kind of a strange choice, they made a separate expansion to the larger lab set? If LEGO wants to make set expansions, make one for the Lunar Space Station, that could benefit from a dedicated expansion.

As cool as this set is, there are issues. It looks great but seems a little barren of detail and no real functions. The alien seems out of place as the other sets come with aliens not in EVA suits, so why here? So the alien can breathe inside the lab? IDK, just guessing. Regardless, I'll get it.

Next to the Interstellar space ship, this is my favorite Space set from this year [and the Friends Rover!]. It gives me "The Martian" vibes - the Mars book/movie. I absolutely love how the wheelchaired astronaut has access to the jet scooter thing - that is just super cool [and can still be used by minifigs standing]. As a play set, I think this a winner as it gives a lot of space to play, multiple ways to configure the layout, and just feels like hours of fun for a kid. I do wish they had hairpieces for the 2 minifigs for when they're in the sealed lab. While I do not have the larger base set, I was not impressed by it after watching your review. Meanwhile, I bought this set as a pre-order as it just looked amazing to me, and honestly I think I like it better than "The Big One". I mean, yeah, it lacks a spaceship [spaceship, SPACESHIP!], but the 4+ ship plus the Interstellar ship can be used with this and one still comes out with more change in their wallet!
@adriansue89559 ай бұрын
interesting to contrast this with the Friends Mars Space Base admittedly that set is twice the price, but the overall footprint isn't that much bigger. I think a key point is the Friends one puts the 'dome' parts at ground level and fills them with visible interior, while the City one wastes parts budget by building up tall blank walls with the (empty) dome as just a roof. too much focus on the stark building structure itself

I'm disappointed with this. It looks great from the outside but there's nothing to do on the inside! Two of the sections don't have any interior details at all so they're just empty and wasted. The other two sections are so minimalistic there was no effort put into their designs at all.

As someone with a lot of disabled people in their orbit, I'm really appreciating the disability rep with this set. Having a character in a wheelchair is awesome to see. And the side build looks like an accessible version of the Space Hoverbike polybag that was also part of the January 2024 Lego City Space wave. And speaking of disability rep, that polybag features a pilot minifig with a hearing impairment too. It's representation like this that really matters for LEGO fans, young and old alike.

I get that now, Jang old buddy. So, I'm assuming that whatever planet they're on, there's some force of gravity? Because, for me, if I was confined to a wheelchair, I'd be jazzed to live on a planet with little or no gravity so that I could finally move around freely. Thanks for responding! 🙂@@JANGsLEGOreviews

Don't like it. The dark blue minifig is meant to be a senior pilot with the interstellar spaceship. What's she doing trapped doing nothing in a little bubble dome? I don't see what this set really offers. It's not really a science lab. It's more like an indoor arboretum. Boring

A+ on the accessibility and inclusivity, A+ on the exterior detailing, too bad it's a mid-90s set on the inside in terms of detailing. Price is very solid though, surprisingly so in an era where it doesn't feel like we get buildings/playsets for less than $80 anymore. Not too bad, pretty cool if you have other stuff to go with it.
