I truly believe that you have so far, captured that small town vibe. And I am glad you're going with the new road plates. I have a small city 8x12 , all on Mils plates now. Then I started with your brick roads... OMG! a lot of work, I switched over to the new road plates and after watching this video, I am glad I did.. I'm just now staring to consider lighting it up... and your light system is simply AMAZING! A huge thank you for designing them....
@BevinsBricks

Thanks so much. I still love my brick built roads as I can do much more detail work with them. But for lighting the new road plates are much more friendly. Especially if you use the building connectors to move your cars around and such for lights.

@@BevinsBricks last video you asked if you should change the stark white lights on the streets to warm white - I liked the difference in contrast the two different colors gave between the industrial part of the town and the residential part. The difference in the stark/warm whites visually devided the city into two distinct zones.

The obvious solution to the thick lighting control board is to increase the height of your mils plates to two bricks. I actually starting using mils plates long before they were called “mils” plates. I got the idea by watching early Beyond the Brick episodes and saw how many of the creations were segmented for easy transport. I used two bricks high because I felt it gave me the best flexibility for incorporating features such as river banks. I rarely use just one brick thick mils plates.
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
I started doing 1 brick thick due to the size of my displays. But I agree 2 thick is much better for smaller displays. As it gives you more options for details and depth. This city display is 8x24 feet. With my last city it was 320 sqft. But in short making everything 1 brick helped me with my costs :)
@matt18385
@matt18385 Жыл бұрын
About your control board conundrum, could you make a small rolling hill or slope on a base plate with like a lift station or something on top of it? I see small lift stations on corner streets in my home town. They’re small white and green buildings, and usually have a sign saying if red light is on call the town lol.
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
In the past I drill a hole in my table and mounted the board on the underside. But Im trying to make this city simple and easy to modify. To show others lighting doesnt need to be scary. Its funny you talk about the lift stations as I maintain a few of those at my current job, it is a viable option to say the least :) would just require more wire. I may change things up in the future and make the larger board available for sale also, just not sure most would want to use it.

Loving the traffic lights and I'm very impressed that so many wires went through a technic pin, so I'm curious, what AWG gauge are the wires? That's a lot of wiring in a tight space. The result is terrific! 🙂
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
Yes thats thw advantage of also using the new road plates as it gives you a lot of space to hide things under them. As for the wires they are stranded 34 gauge wire. Its important to use stranded so the wire stays flexiable. :)

Are you able to light the entire city just with the single power connection you drilled or will you require multiple sections to connect to separate usb plugs?
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
It all depends on the total load as I like to have no more than 1 amp on a circuit. But for reference what I currently have illuminated Im only using .5 amps so I still have roughly 50 leds I can use on this circuit. Ill explain more on all that in the next video.

The "night vision" of your city is looking amazing! One thing came to my mind after the solution you gave about traffic light cycle last video, switching green and red on each connector. What if another yellow is added to the cycle, after red and before green? It'll look a little more like Europe than USA, but at least it won't need a more complex board. Please just have in mind this idea is coming from someone who doesn't know anything about electricity besides plugging devices into outlets. 😅
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
It would require changing and adding more outputs to the control board. Still working on a smaller more compact solution.

Ugh. I don’t know if I’m inspired or intimidated. I’ve just started my table/city and would love to do it right (like this) from the beginning but I fear knowledge and cash will definitely prevent me from doing this from the beginning. I’m trying to light most everything. I suspect I’m going to have 150 aaa batteries and 50 battery boxes cluttering up the whole city 🤣

The biggest thing is to take your time and enjoy the hobby :). As for lighting I hate the big sloppy mess that comes with using all the big companies lighting kits. Which was why I started my own lighting business and invented the magnetic mils connectors. As it stream lines the entire process. There are other more affordable options as well and I even have a new option I will be releasing in the next 2 weeks. For a lot of good information I recommend my other channel bevins bricks world as I get much more involved in explaning things :)

@@pbosche If you have a cordless drill battery, you can get USB adapters for them. My Hercules adapter (Harbor Freight) only has 2 USB ports, but perhaps via USB hubs you could power 8 to 12 USB lighting power connectors from one drill battery. I don't know how many lights each of those USB connections can power, but I'd imagine several dozen. You could have the USB hubs in buildings and have the tiny wires & magnetic connectors carry power underneath across different MILS plates. Probably power half your town on 1 drill battery.
@BevinsBricks
@BevinsBricks Жыл бұрын
With usb power supplies its usually 1.5 amps which equates roughly yo 150 leds per port. I always tell everyone to stay at 100 though
