LEGO Classic Space Police 6986 Galactic Enforcer / Mission Commander from 1989!

This was my big Christmas gift from 1989. Still remember putting it together and marveling at the motion piece, and also how the jail cells clipped in to the back. I still have the minifigs to this day, as well as some of the cockpit and trans red pieces, but lost most of the other parts. Thanks for sharing!

Not trying to boast or anything, but I got one for 45 Euros on eBay a couple of years ago here in Italy. Just create a saved search with all the big sets you're interested in, and a minimum price high enough to filter out the parts/minifigs listings, and sooner or later you'll find a big, juicy set like this one on auction with a minimum at half its price and which no one is bidding on.

I remember my cousin had a bunch of the classic town and space lego sets from the 80's and some others from the early 90's. Even though they were from before my time since i was born in 94, they were all still fascinating and cool.

Great video as usual Jang! I've had one of these as a child. Back then it was impossible to find any lego set in my country and my aunt, who lives is the US have brought me this. After watching your video, I built the set in the Stud.IO and that brought me back the good old memories... Wow that radar instrument on the top of the cargo bay is a really old piece. Didn't know they had those back then. Glad to see they've put them back into use with various city sets and now the arctic sets.

I had this set as a kid (technically, I still do have it, it's just in storage & pieces at my parent's place). I actually kit-bashed this into an even larger ship (using a smaller ship) to make it a double-layer cockpit (which was detachable, I think), and the vehicle to the back next to the prisoners. It could hold three police figures (two in front, one on the car), and two prisoners. I loved the first space police series!

I love these sets as they cover so many creative (and nowadays hardly ever used) transforming parts. I think it's a real shame that lego don't use the technics that this set uses in lego sets today

I really liked the idea of the openable and removable prison cells. I used to own the smalled ship of this series which had one of those on the rear. Great stuff from Lego!

I had this set as a kid and saved the box\instructions and all the pieces. It was in great shape still so I sold it on eBay for like $170.00. I wasn't that in love with it and figured I could get some better/cooler brand new legos with the money. I don't regret it. The pieces back then were pretty lame compared with what you can do today.

This is one of my most fovourite sets ever! I love the shape, love the colours, love the function, especially the front ship mechanism. the only thing that I complain about this set is the cargo door. it's too big and heavy and it doesn't lock at all. Once you try to make an aerial show by flipping upside down your ship the door will opened itself.

I used to have a similar model. It was mostly red and the glasses (cockpit and helmet ones) where yellow/green. I think it came with two minifigs, and one of them had a small ship for him

This is a nice lookig set that I have since 1989, but the main problem of this set, is the weight and the quite impossibility to lift it and carry it to play with when you are 10yo. But I still have it, one of the biggest Lego set I have.

I prefer this to the Series 2 and Series 3 of the Space Police. Not only the Colour scheme but the general look to the vehicles. I only had the Galactic Peace Keeper and the Spy Trak. Also I loved the Blacktron Series 1 theme released around this time.

This is one set I have had a hard time trying to get this summer. Awesome set one drawback for believable play, there don't seem to be any thrusters for propulsion. Zoot! However, none the less it's a very desired, collectable set.

You could always look at the side ways dish pieces which are protected by those transparent red shield plates to be small propulsion engines.

fun fact: bad guy toys do only sell well in the USA. but they're a pretty hard to sale in the rest of the world. that's why LEGO started to bundle a good guy and a bad guy because the bad guy stuff always ended up on bargain sales.

For those who don’t know, Gerry Anderson and his wife Sylvia Anderson are the creators of countless British hit television shows including Supercar, Fireball XL-5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO, Space: 1999 (Another fun fact: Because of a vehicle in Space: 1999 called the Eagle Transporter George Lucas actually had to change the design of the Millenium Falcon because him and his crew thought it looked too similar to it and that people would think they were ripping Anderson off, so we ended up getting the design we know and love today. It was also the inspiration for the Millenium Falcon's name (“Space: 1999”=Millenium, “Eagle Transporter”=Falcon), The Secret Service, and last but not least; Thunderbirds. Unfortunately he passed away in late 2012 and I never had a chance to meet him however.... That man was truly my childhood and my hero....
