As someone who has been obsessed with Concorde and Lego from a very young age I can’t express how excited I am that Lego have made such a faithful representation of the plane. I remember when I was about 5 or 6 me and my dad building our own Concorde together and this feels like the set we always wanted! I think we’ll be getting one each😆

I flew from London to NY once on the Concorde. It was comfortable but narrow to the point that the middle aisle was narrow so the service card wasn’t the one you see on most airplanes. It had a screen that kept track of speed Mach 2 was the max speed. I got home in half the time on that trip.

@nickm2483 Жыл бұрын
@@sebe7570I’ve always wondered that too. Is it different, worse or better at the higher altitude?

There is little turbulence at those altitudes, so in that regard it was better. But of course it was still subject to regular turbulence when climbing and descending.

I really love this style of review where you show off interesting parts of the build process while they are happening, rather than just talking about it after the fact. And the commentary is something you just don't really get with speed builds that show just the build process

I flew on the Concorde back in December of 2001, it was a heck of a ride! It did feel small inside and the windows to look outside are much smaller then a normal passenger jet. I had Roasted Lamb and some Dom Perignon. Taking off was crazy because of the Afterburners and the Concorde uses no flaps. When we landed at Heathrow Airport the landing was very rough like a fighter jet.
@craiglizt8074 Жыл бұрын
Lego really did a fantastic job at designing this thing. It's just gorgeous to look at and the size of it makes it all worthwhile. I like the landing gear operation and the stand as well. So very cool overall.

The concord is a legendary plane, only brought down by the fuel economy and a loose part from a different plane on the runway, it was actually a really safe plane other that. I whis I was able to experience it when it was still flying.

Flew on an Air France Concorde in 1992. From JFK to France and then back on the return trip....so technically I flew on the Concorde twice. I was 12 years old with my parents. The one thing i remember is the flight back to the US was EXTREMELY hot inside the cabin. 60k feet up, sun beating down at mach 2. Not surprising, right?

My Dad took me to the airport in Auckland in 1986 to watch Concord land here - I was 11, but I'll never forget it! I actually really like the smaller number of parts per bag - I just finished the UCS X-Wing, which had a similar piece count to this, but half the number of bags - I'm a busy guy - professional with family - and I struggled to complete a bag in a sitting, and since my home office is for work, generally assemble at my dining room table - which meant I had to think carefully about timing when starting a new bag, which means if I only had 30 minutes free time, I'd just have to do something else - smaller number of pieces per bag would have been great for me. Having stated that - I do wish Lego would hurry up and eliminate the plastic bags like they have been promising for several years now - at least this one has a paper bag for the cockpit. Amazing set - really wish Lego would put as much effort into the UCS Star Wars sets - they are good, but always contain a lot of stickers, and was very disappointed the UCS X-Wing didn't even have landing gear - literally the only thing it had was the S-Foil deployment. Then again, a lot of other UCS Star Wars sets have nothing at all in the way of technic function... I often kinda get the feeling the team that work on UCS Star Wars aren't really that into it...

Nice review. However the Concorde didn't have flaps. Those moving surfaces on the wings were a mix of elevators and elevons like most Delta wings. The higher angle of attack at landing, assisted by the droop snoot to give better visibility assisted in clawing back 'some' of the lower landing speed lost by not having flaps. It still came in pretty hot though like most deltas!

Can't fly on it anymore anyway because they were all retired in 2003. However, they were pretty darn safe all things considered. There was only 1 fatal crash in its 27-year history. I only wouldn't fly on it because the ticket prices were super expensive. Costing close to $6000 to fly one way in the 90s. I could only imagine if it were still in operation today ticket prices would be 10s of thousands.
@adrianhjordan1981 Жыл бұрын
A crash that was caused by Air France not sticking to the manufacturer's guidelines around fuel levels. The aircraft was safe if operated correctly. I only found out recently that BA used to charter flights out around the Scilly Isles that were far more affordable - would probably be a few hundred these days - not cheap, but as a once in a lifetime experience, achievable.
@username9774 Жыл бұрын
There wer so called "Concord experiences", a one hour flight where you could experience the plane going a mach 2, typically being done in the spare plane for around 1500$. The one crash only happened because of a piece of a different airplane which fell on the runway, the soon improved the plane to not explode if this happens again.

I've been a plane geek since I was a teenager many moons ago. Was pumped when I heard Lego were doing Concorde but the pictures of it left me feeling deflated. I'm now trying to plan how to afford it and how I'm going to build it because it looked completely different in your video. I haven't flown in it but I have been in it. The model doesn't show it but the seats were tiny. If you were anything over a medium build, you weren't comfortable sat in them and if you were tall, you had to walk up the aisle with your head tilted to the side. Don't know whether the manual says it but the friction on the plane at full speed heated the fuselage so it was actually longer in flight than when it was sat on the ground by about 6 inches - like I said, I was a plane geek

@TheGalantHamburger Жыл бұрын
@@username9774 Wow. Ok. So the fact the plane crashed, killed everyone on board AND four people on the ground didn’t lead to the end of the planes service life didn’t lead to it being taken out of service, the international flight agencies recognising the age of the remaining air frames and requiring tripled servicing rates and increased servicing times didn’t kill the plane did it not?? It was JUST the additional costs involved as a result of the crash making it financially inviable for British Airways and Air France to continue flying the plane that killed it was it?? Pretty sure I know what I’m talking about. And you’re not even brave enough to post a real user name. Troll.
@adrianhjordan1981 Жыл бұрын
@@TheGalantHamburgerNope. Especially since the crash was proven to be due to Air France negligence and not the fault of the aircraft. British Airways fully intended to continue flying the aircraft for many years to come, indeed they spent millions refitting the interiors of their fleet in 2001 which they would not have done if they had known it would be retired in 2003.

This set looks amazing, but as a long time Lego builder, it looks like the achillies heel of the whole set would be those clips that hold on the engines and the top of the cockpit. Unfortunately those pieces are prone to wearing out and cracking. So hopefully they include some replacements, and aren’t too difficult to replace. Other than that, I’m surprised that there are no stickers in this whole set. I bought the millennium Falcon from the force awakens, and was disappointed by it having a big sheet of stickers.

@busdriver2011 Жыл бұрын
It wasn't the just crash that caused them to be pulled from service. It was the loss of the large number of customers in the September 2001 attacks, rising fuel costs and Airbus stopped supporting the aircraft after Air France stopped flying them. BA had intended them to continue in service for a number of years longer after spending a large amount of money fitting kevlar linings to the fuel tanks to help avoid a similar incident the Paris accident in 2000. A true icon, which I was lucky enough to see take off and land at very close quarters many times!

at 1m its basically the size of the Titanic. Hopefully one day Lego does the 747. Now that they have done Concorde they almost have to, So they can have to two most iconic passenger aircraft.
