Lego Constant Speed Propeller

When first transitioning to flying complex aircraft, I found understanding the constant speed propeller and governor to be a consistent challenge. My instructors did a great job explaining how the system worked, but I needed something more to truly understand the mechanism. After becoming an instructor myself I knew I needed a working model to show people, so I used some old lego components and built one.
Today, I'm filming that model along with a detailed explanation of how the constant speed propeller works, at least to the level a pilot needs. I made the video I wish existed years ago, so I hope it can help you.

This is where the term "Balls Out" comes from. When a governor's ball weights are fully out, you are going balls out.

It makes much more sense to me now! Thanks for that detailed explanation. I’m a hands-on learner too and the physical model was very helpful. Aside: a model like that was not possible with the limited legos pieces I had growing up 😂
