You could add a helicopter or seaplane approaching the oil rig maybe. That way you have something even higher than the boats and not taking up more shelf surface. I like the three items you have there and don't think it needs much more in terms of large marine items. Maybe a shark or something with it's fin above the waves and the body beneath? Not sure if you can use enough magnets to make that a reality since the larger portion would be beneath. You could then have a guy in a dingy looking terrified as it approached.

Really clever use to show off the effectiveness of the 20,000 Bricks under the Sea cabinet. I remember having a black tugboat in the 80s (4005) that I’m fairly sure had an enormous keel underneath to keep it upright. Really like the use of the magnets and it creates a great effect. It seems to look best from the top and maybe the lighting/reflection from camera doesn’t show it off as well from below. Really like you extending use of an existing build. Looking forward to Wednesday already now! (JJ on emoticons)
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
I have that tugboat and I remember the heavy keel. I won't use that one here, haha. I think the reflection was worse as it was nearer the front of the cabinet but it may well get pushed back in due course and the internal lights "dimmed" a bit!
@guleri2 жыл бұрын
That enormus keel was really heavy and sorely needed when you wanted the boat to float in water without tipping over. Remember I used to sail my Lego boats in the bathtub as a kid, somtimes we made really long boats and had to have two or three of the keels underneath.

Absolutely love that build, it looks awesome! Presumably you could move the crab boat further back in the cabinet and have some smaller boats at the front without it getting too crowded, since the crab boat is large enough that you'll still be able to see it just fine. A nice touch might be to have a buoy above the crab pot, with or without a chain/rope securing it.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
Yes we'll need a rope and a buoy so they can pull it up!
@Rhewtani2 жыл бұрын
You could do some ship facades in the back to save on space. Also, it would be great if you had a half ship against the side glass, where you can see inside it from the side of the cabinet, but not viewable from inside the display - much like your cutaway builds near the edges of the tables.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
That sounds really interesting. A bit difficult but fun. Hmmm. You've got me thinking!
@davidgate43062 жыл бұрын
I think a barnacle of 2 would be great, maybe even some darker patches, as im sure this crab boat would be pretty rusty and old rather than slick smooth shining red. You could maybe even have a crab escaping on the underside.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
There's an escapee on the front but another would be good. Maybe stickers could add some distress to the perfect red!

@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
I think so too. I have to. Or maybe a rotation system, haha!
@peterkitts88152 жыл бұрын
I think if you added smaller things with some not boats you can get away with more things on the surface. A small dinghy / rigid inflatable type boat, a bouy would work without it feeling crowded. Can then have a school of fish or something underneath it and it would have a chain anchoring it to the bottom which gives more options like weeds hanging off it, fish at various depths, etc.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'll definitely mix it up a bit, thanks!
@justaddbricks55272 жыл бұрын
About the density of boats at the top, I think it looks great at the moment, but maybe one more smaller boat would be good - I think 3 more would look too crowded. The underside of the crab boats looks great, I though it maybe looked slightly too flat, but it looks good.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
I now officially have too many boats, with two more on the way. Ooops!
@tomb89692 жыл бұрын
Another great video and such fantastic idea using this cabinet and the magnets. I would remove the two grill pieces, think it would be better if everything was smooth. Maybe one of your other boats could have an anchor and then a large squid climbing up to swallow the boat like in Pirates of the Caribbean. How quickly you filled up the top shelf has me thinking you may have over ordered all those interesting parts for the coral, hopefully you can cram them all in. Keep up the great work!!
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын

You can definitely squeeze in a couple more boats Robin! Maybe move the crab boat to the back and have something smaller in front, maybe someone on a lilo that's floated out to sea! I'm sad to lose the crab fishermen from the main room, but they look much happier out at sea (apart from the one being sick!).
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
It makes more sense doesn't it. I think it will go at the back but it's at the front for now to show it off!
@ZackN852 жыл бұрын
I agree that adding more boats/ships will look awkwardly overcrowded very quick. What I'd love to see at the top layer is a whale surfacing. You could mount most of the body to the underside with just a bit coming above, probably with a blowhole spraying. (Alternatively, it could be breeching with the front portion of its body extending above the glass or returning from a breech with just its tail above the water, like in your harbor.) A really fun project, in particular, to create some "splashes" on the water surface. (Maybe even a Narwhal, so it could have the Friends line baby Narwhal flanking it.) I even think you could probably get away with doing a kind of "facade" trick to build just half the whale if you place it all the way against a cabinet wall.

In terms of perspective, I think it's more effective to have bigger builds at the back, and smaller ones at the front (a bit like in the city actually!). Maybe by moving the crab boat to the far background, and the sailboat a bit more forward (though not too much because it's quite tall... I'm a bit torn on that) you could then fit more vessels on that top level. And kudos to Guardian of the Deep for making it into the cabinet abyss 👌

If you put the crab-boat in the place of the yacht, then she would be more in the background, especially if you keep the yacht sailing direction going with the crab-boat. The yacht you can have sailing past the oil rig and that gives you room for at least on other object. Be honest with yourself, the crab-boat best look is 45 degrees from the back, so you can see it's screw & rudder, right? And with the yacht it's seeing it's underwater structure, just right, correct? That leaves you with some roof for something else. Like say a submarine that's partly above and partly below, water. Or another yacht or two, like those Ninjago catamaran & trimaran, if after a light remodeling to remove the weapons, add extra sails and make their hulls a bit more logical in setup, while adding in the underwater parts of their hulls. That could let you show a sail race of some kind.
@RobinHoodBricks2 жыл бұрын
Good thinking. The race I was considering was power boats but I've got to squeeze in a diving ship as that'll interact with the depths as well. Maybe they could alternate!
