Definitely a fun case. I think LEGO Ideas has missed the mark quite a bit of late by not making more sets that are in affordable price ranges. While they're focusing on the adult market, which I definitely understand (adults are the ones who are designing and voting, of course), they are failing to provide enough sets in Ideas for younger builders' price points. There haven't been any sets less than $60 US in the Ideas range in years, and that means that they are making even more niche sets at high prices, so inevitably many will - financially speaking - fail. I think that sets like Sonic are the ideal ones to make at lower points - $40-$50 even - so that more of the younger audience could get them, but yet they keep making them at $70, $80, $90, which is out of reach for so many.

It should be said, I'm more of the thought process that the majority of voters are within the teenage range, and adults have only recently hopped aboard, which is why review windows have been so massive

Given some of what has passed reviews, such as the Delorean, Ecto-1, Flintstones, Seinfeld, etc. you can definitely see the adult nostalgia influences, if not in voting, then within those who pick the final sets. I do think a lot of late teens especially have jumped on IDEAS as well, so I would presume it's a good mix.

also, since you talked about, dimentions, i have a theory. one of the sets are 100$ my guess is it's the death egg robot, and it will come with a classic sonic and Silver Sonic minifigs and also a eggman bigfig

To be fair, this Lego Set is created to commemorate Sonic’s 30th anniversary so why not recreating his first adventure in Green Hills.

Finally someone notices LEGO’s bullshit shift in focus towards Icons/Adults Welcome when it comes to gaming and especially Ideas sets! That recent change has alienated a lot of consumers and resulted in a lot of similar builds with boring packaging and manuals. Even if the scale of an Ideas set may work out for a younger builder, they have to change it to be more displayable/art-focused just so some middle-aged man can get his 80’s nostalgia fix and impulse buy the expensive product he’s going to stick on his shelf collecting dust for all eternity once he finishes building the model and showing his friends.

I got this set for my birthday and love the build but I keep looking at it confused with lots of the issues of the set. Especially in 2021 when a designer said tbe set would include characters not originally in the idea pitch. I hoped for tails but instead got crab meat

the reason that Lego couldn't include Tails and Knuckles in the set, is because they would have to make new molds for the heads, Tails' tails, and Knuckles' knuckles. you can't actually make requests for molds on Lego Ideas, so they couldn't include them.

I waited SUPER long for a Sonic set and i bought it immediately, being the big Sonic fan i am it was something i was waiting for for a VERY long time Yes i can agree they could have done better but the upside was that it was a very affordable set being $60-$70 and not $200

Tbh I personally love the set as a display piece It’s really just eggman that’s a little off I can’t argue that they could’ve made it better but as something to sit on my shelf I think it looks great and captures sonic

Been a long time Sonic the Hedgehog fan and a long time LEGO-fan. Got back into LEGO partly because of the Turtles set a couple of years back (because I knew the 7-year old in me would never forgive me if I didn't buy the Turtle-lair one. Turtles and LEGO, that was two of my favourite things when I was little) but when this set was released, I didn't feel the same way. Partly because it felt too expensive for too little material. Had it included Tails too I would more likely have bought it already. And had Tails AND Knuckles been included I'd have bought it in a heart beat. But just Sonic, some cool design and a pretty bad Robotnik? Not that interested, sadly.

Such a wonderful story. I missed out on TMNT in their entirety, and I honestly regret it. Some of the sets are great. I gotta say, the Sonic set is a great display piece, and the build really does a great job. It just could have been... more. Definitely wait for a sale. I do recommend it, honestly.

I mean Viv Grannell the original set designer said she originally wanted to do a Sonic 1 set but wasn't sure if it would get support so that's why she switched it to Mania but when they were designing it for a set release she asked if they could make it based on Sonic 1 and Lego said yes so that is why it's based on Sonic 1 not Sonic Mania
