I think this is the best scale and price to do this set at. Most people can’t handle all these $250+ sets. This way it looks nice and features the key rooms. We don’t see enough of Malfoy manner for a bigger set as we only really see the dungeon and the dining hall. Any smaller and it would look sad, any bigger and it would be too much for the content of the set. Would I like a deeper build: sure. But for this locations, $150 feels like a good price.

I completely agree with you; the set definitely has exciting scope to be an 18+ set in the future, with proper, full sized rooms. Also, I believe that logo under the table is the Dark Mark used by Death Eaters!

Personally, if it was bigger (and more expensive), I wouldn’t be here for it. As it is now, it’s definitely big enough in my opinion, and though the interior does look really thin, it still seems like a fairly good playspace for the figures it comes with. Not quite as exciting as Grimmauld place, but I’m definitely excited for this one! Much more so than for any of the other HP January sets.

I like this set. Easy to display when there is not that much room. On the other hand if one wants to have a bigger one, thus set provides a great starting point for a wonderful MOC (which I'm planning to do when i get mine 😊)

This is one of those sets that I’m glad exists as an entry in the series. Like there needed to be at least one attempt at this set, but the execution just fell flat. I love the idea of an 18+ collectors level set for this location, I imagine that could’ve mimicked the size & aesthetic of the old haunted house set

I'm a fan of the set. As an adult with an adult income, even I'm starting to get priced out of all these ultra premium sets Lego keeps churning out. It's nice to see a decent on that many more people can afford, that still looks nice enough to display.

I'm sure Lego has done a ton of market research to maximize their profit and I am sure that their business model makes sense, but some times I find myself thinking: Who can afford these? When I was a kid I got small to medium sized sets some times as gifts from my parents. I couldn't even imagine my own parents at the time spending $200-250 on a Lego set for THEMSELVES (adjusted for inflation, 300-400 today). I think the prices are alright for what you get, It's more about how the large sets are locked into that price range. God forbid they make $50-150 sets that prioritize detail over size.

The best thing to do at this point is to try the competing brands. A number of them now have quality as good as or better then Lego but are often much cheaper. You can get a set from Funwhole, for example, with integrated lights and all prints for 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of Lego. Bricks are the same quality.

@@SO-ym3zs Don't you think it's criminal that Funwholes molds are a 1:1 of Legos designs? It's theft. There is clearly some legal loophole, so it technically isn't theft, I know, but it's not moral. Lego as a company also has an outward face, but with Funwhole you have no idea what their policies are. The stuff they make is priced like Temu Lego, so it's only fair to assume that its sweatshop labor. They are based in China. They also ship worldwide within 48 h, which means a cut to someone's paycheck. I'd rather rest easy that my hobby didn't contribute to Chinese workers breathing in plastic fumes and slaving away just so I can have my toy. I know this sounds harsh, but truth often is.

@@SO-ym3zs I agree, as a lifetime Lego-er, I long ago discovered Cobi and have expanded into Funwhole and Pantasy. All beginning to challenge Lego quality and Cobi has always better display pieces.

@an8790 Lego produces in China and is certainly no saint in any regard. We also have little if any idea how they pay or treat their workers or partners. We don't know that anyone is using sweatshop labor. For all we know, Lego is vastly overcharging for their products. The profits they declare in their financial statements tend to give that credence. And recall that Lego lifted their whole concept from another company without permission and that the bricks have long been public domain. Funwhole, Cobi, Mega, etc also have their own unique pieces.I feel better, if anything, buying from these smaller companies than Lego, who often comes across as a greedy and manipulative bully.

The problem with making this bigger is it would easily turn out in the 3K+ pieces, so going in the 300 to 400 euro range. Would anyone other than hardcore fans spend that amount of money on a location which hardly appears in the movie in its entirety? I guess they could make some detailed models of the more significant rooms seen in the movie (dungeon and corridor, and the dining room) like done for Hogwarts, but a bigger and more expensive full build of the house would hardly sell

I think this looks great for a $150 kids’ playset of a location that we only see a couple of times in the saga. Kids (and adults with small budgets) need their HP sets too; not everything has to be a giant detailed D2C set, and there’s nothing that says that they can’t make one later down the line like they did with the burrow.

Agreed. This set is more geared towards kids with the way it is. Even says 10+ on the box. There are plenty of 18+ harry potter sets so I don't know why everyone is complaining. Not everything has to be an adult Lego set with thousands and thousands of pieces

I agree that the house looks disappointing, however I can see where the problem is. This is a set that has a certain price tag. However, to get a nice build, it would have to be bigger, which would result possibly in a couple hundred dollar set. But I agree that when this version tries to bring a big exterior (that ends up being a facade) also with some interior (that ends up being a big bunch of nothing, because there is not enough space), the end result is a disaster.

The painting on the right I believe was one of the many paintings on the wall in Hogwarts by the grand staircase in the films. But it is included in this set because a lot of the background paintings in the films are just wizard parodies of real paintings putting the people in wizard clothes, and I believe the woman in the painting on the right is Bess of Hardwick who was the owner of the building they used to film the Malfoy manor scenes: Hardwick hall. edit: also the I believe the real Hardwick hall also doesn't have doors onto that balcony because the windows are that big, so you would just go through the windows to get to it. Also a lot of the real house was just made big and extravagant to brag about her wealth, so the balcony most likely wasn't built for use but to show off the fact that she could have a balcony.

Statue gargoyle pieces are new with the Wednesday set, and glad to see in another set, hoping for dark bluish gray and black someday though. It does meet my expectations set for it when I saw it wasn't going to be deep. However I do wish we got more and a deeper set with a few more rooms, But even a Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets was under $1000 pieces and seemed to have a bit more going for it in terms of rooms. Like the outside look, Almost think Lego would do well with Multiple sets for things. You have your base sets, each with play features, maybe a few Smaller sets here with various scenes. And then if you buy all 4 sets, and some 200-300 extra pieces on PAB, they supply instructions to make it into a UCS set. Thus allowing it to serve both markets.

It absolutely would be nice if this product was bigger and more expensive and one of three sets that combined to make a massive display piece. Hell, I'd pre-order an official expansion kit for the Viking Village set tomorrow if Lego ever made one. I need a boat, and I need a field and some regular houses with a lavatory or two for the entire thing to feel properly immersive. But that's the kind of cuts to the scope of the project that Lego designers have to make in order to make their products widely accessible.

I feel like sticking with the current Harry Potter modular building could have made this into multiple decent products instead of one that’s quite bad in my opinion. One set for the main hall and one for the dungeon? I don’t the think this location is desirable enough for the set to do well if it received the 18+ treatment. Lego is in a tough spot; fans have asked for this and there’s only so many locations in the franchise but I’m having a hard time seeing how this could have been a greatest that’s also popular enough to justify Lego making it.

The colour choice for the front is way too bright. Not sure if swapping out the green accents for grey pieces would work but I am willing to give it a try. Definitely need an 18+ set for this. We’ve waited a long time for this and it’s fallen way short. Thanks for a great review❤

Get well soon Tiago. Thanks for sharing this video with us, this thing is wild. Too expensive to be a kids set, to much a playset to cater for the adult Potterheads that want it for years. Too much parts for being a thin play facade. Too much moldpoints on the one by one tiles on the corners. This build should have been budgeted between €100 and €110, coming in around 1500 pieces with sidewalls and a roof to at least have half the house.., so less details and griebling and more usefull bricks for kids to experiment with MOC-ing of their own. I know inflation, jadajadajada, i also know the competition doing those kind of deals as standard.(Even on IP) Maybe €120 because of the lot of minifigures.

Lego is only getting more expensive and keeps leaning into the big luxury adult collectible sets. Supposedly they have a $1000 Death Star coming out this year. I've been buying way more sets from competing brands now because you get so much more bang for your buck, and the quality is just as good or better these days.

I do like the set but it does have limitations- many that you discussed. Glad that you mentioned the front as being a little too colourful- just too many of those green pieces. I could not figure out at first what it was that I didn’t like - might have preferred grey 🤷‍♀️ or just less green. Trying to decide if we should wait for a deal on this one or at least a good gwp however it does appear to be one of the most popular sets in this wave so there may s that. Regardless will modify it, especially making it wider etc
