This goes against everything Lego stands for Edit: There's a lot of ignorance in these replies so I just wanted to clarify a few things: Lego has built its brand around core values such as creativity, imagination, learning, and play. These values are not just marketing slogans but are deeply ingrained in the company's culture and the experiences it aims to provide to children and adults alike. Lego sets encourage open-ended play, allowing builders to express their creativity, problem-solving skills, and imagination in endless ways.Human creativity lies at the heart of Lego's appeal. Whether it's the initial design of Lego sets, the creations built by individuals, or the collaborative efforts of communities, human ingenuity and expression are central to the Lego experience. Lego sets are often designed by artists who bring their unique perspectives, inspirations, and insights into the creative process, resulting in sets that resonate with audiences on an emotional level. Using AI to replace artists may be perceived as a departure from Lego's values of fostering creativity, play, and learning. It may signal a shift towards prioritizing efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and automation over human-centered design principles. This could potentially erode trust and goodwill among Lego's customer base, who value the company's commitment to fostering creativity and imagination in children and adults alike.

@@jmc042 Hello, old time LEGO fan here - I was probably playing games on the old LEGO website before you were even born. In the early 2000's, LEGO made some amazing things to promote sets and add lore (keep in mind that shows like Ninjago didn't even exist yet). For BIONICLE alone you had the Mata Nui Online Games, which used simple flash graphics to tell an entire side of the BIONICLE story in a unique way through a slow mystery with scheduled game updates. For general LEGO lines, you had creative games like Junkbot, Junkbot Undercover, World Builder, DREAMZ (not the theme, the old strategy game), BELTZ, and others. So many themes got at least one solid flash-style game all the way up until the 2010's and beyond. A single-year robotics line called Spybotics got a whole puzzle strategy hacking game called Spybot: The Nightfall Incident that still holds up to this day - and for a theme that failed financially, it was some genius game design. So no, we did not have low standards. LEGO set high standards, we recognized that, and we loved it. Didn't even need AI to make LEGO Mars Mission: Crystalien Conflict such a banger.

They are the number one toy company in the world, and in their own words selling an “art medium” making their toys a work of art while underpaying and choosing to limit their spend on art. They need to do better as a leader in the toy and art community to respect the craft and the people who do it and aspire to do it.

You look at older sets like The Simpsons sets or older Icons sets or Creator Expert sets like the modulars or vehicles and they have great box art that clearly took time and effort to make. It makes the set pop because it's placed in a location that feels right like a cartoon town or among other buildings or at the beach or whatever. Now it's like just slap the set on a boring black box and the job is done. They definitely save money by doing this and I feel like their cheapness and laziness might have affected the sales of some sets like Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street by not being appealing to kids or parents

We know for sure they probably would have said that they're never going to use AI, but they've basically said that they're going to keep doing it and just make sure it's not noticeable to us. It's unfortunate too because AI is only going to get better and right now we can easily point at the fingers and other irregularities. But soon it's just going to get so good that it's going to be hard for people to call them out on it

That's a really sad Reality, i wish there were Laws to Properly Regulate these things so they don't Replace People giving people a Future to actually do some fun stuff like this instead of Sitting in an Office Cubicle for the Rest of their lives, but i guess with another Half like these People Accepting and Embracing AI, i don't see that happening. I wish it was just a Fad like NFT's but i doubt its going to that Route, and the 100% AI Generated Stuff already show how bad things could become. (i would Say the Willy Wonka Experience from the UK as an example but i think that's a whole different can of worms) its a sad and Inevitable Reality that's coming, and unless they do stuff to Regulate it hard right now, were going to see a Dip in Quality and Content for the Rest of Humanity's life

This is a doomer's mindset. The only place we've seen Lego use ai at this point is here on a random web quiz for kids. Not saying that's OK in a vacuum, but it's way better than it being on their actual products. Plus, lego's response was very much written like ai would only ever be used behind the scenes, which I'd argue is *far* less of an issue that only really stems from the issues of AI as a technology. Stolen art to feed its algorithms and such.

And maybe more since some do have semi comic book styles with the action pictures. Truly disgusting. I’m wondering if the entire quiz was AI generated and they were trying to see if ai could make fun website content and they could focus their human energies on more design. But lego embracing generative ai imagery at all is not a fun concept. Imagine somebody winning the lego ideas process with ai generated set models?? But at the end of the day my biggest problem with ai art is it’s built on stolen assets. Lego could realistically get sued by Shonen Jump for confusing the Ninjago brand with Naruto. And it’s all the fault of a generative ai prompt with no editing or oversight. Like you said lego should already have all the assets they need to make promo stuff like this. There’s no reason to create original art pieces for something as trivial as a online quiz.

Not to defend Lego since it seems like they're really dropping the ball on QC, but there's been instances in the recent past of people hiring artists to make art and then the people hired use AI and the people who hired them can't tell/don't notice, then they get called out and go, "I am so sorry, I had no idea, I didn't look closely at it, I won't hire that person again" and stuff like that.
