LEGO Power Miners Titanium Command Rig from 2009! set 8964

People frequently complain that LEGO prices have gotten way higher than the good old days, that licensed themes especially have driven prices sky high, and that sets have too many action features. However, adjusted for inflation, the widely loved Power Miners series averaged a cringeworthy $0.15 USD per part, though it was an original IP theme, and every set focused more on action features than anything else. It's a strange phenomenon!

Something similar to that is the very strongly loved 928 ship was $32.00 at release, adjusted for inflation the set comes at $0.33 dollars per part! I think it comes from people thinking the sets were cheaper because they didn't know the prices, or also it was inflation and people were not taking that into effect.

Power Miners was so underrated. A lot of their sets used the lego gear systems in some pretty creative ways I think. Not a lot of other Lego themed sets did that

My God the nostalgia I remember getting this. I did eventually rebuild this to take out the cheater wheel and putting a moter in. The power functions set with this was awesome

You know, I really liked power miners, and I actually really liked the idea of the titanium command rig. I thought the concept of having this mobile base that had all these features, winch, transforming tower for more permanent operations, cage and crane, etc, was really cool. The drill of course was an awesome thing, to be able to go through rock and earth down and down. But that drill always causes me problems, for whatever reason. I had the thing for probably 6 months, and constantly had to minutely readjust the gears to get the drill going, from whatever cause. But it was fun, and I enjoyed it for the most part while I had it.

I loved this theme so much growing up and I got every single set for the theme except for the Underground Mining Station and the polybags. Wave 1 was amazing wave 2 I felt was short lived because there were only four sets in it...

Wow, this is an amazing set; the whole drill going up vertically blew me away! You can almost see the design lineage in this set leading all the way from back in my day. I remember I got one of the bigger Blacktron 2 sets, set 6933: Spectral Starguider. And I used to dream of having the big M-Tron set, 6989: Mega Core Magnetizer, but my mom couldn't afford it. I know there were themes in between these and Power Miners with big multi-wheeled vehicles, but I grew out of LEGO in that period and only came back into it a few years after this set here was long gone.

The cab isn't supposed to lean forward, you forgot to use the locking mechanism to keep it level. I have this set and it takes a bit to get it right.

Duuuuude I remember this when I was young boulderax was my fav rock monster me and my brother use to play this a lot however we got upset when it ended and we didn't like the larva monster theme it sucked. you could modify the main drill to go up and down with lego pneumatics. have 2 large pistons on the sides where the drill is being held up to move it up and down. a pneumatic switch you allow it to move up and down with a pump and motor(or wheel motion) to get the air.
