Because the nature of LEGO being a toy brand makes it different to regular video game mascots. With regular mascots there's no harm in going back and remastering old games because you can get a new lease of life out of it. Most LEGO games are promoting themes that have stopped being produced, so there's no gain for them as a whole. Exceptions to this are very long standing themes (eg Harry Potter or Star Wars) or evergreen themes (mostly just City, hence why LEGO City Undercover was granted ports/remastering).

Okay then, you've literally made my day, I've been sick for the last four days, seeing someone speed run the game that literally was the biggest part of my childhood is unbelievable. Even though my copy for the PC broke I was able to beat basil through trial and error way back when.the first race against him has to be the most difficult part of any run. You ether get the green brick or lose the entire race. Funny thing is I might get another copy and go back and play it. I think you can do glitchless. Its possible, just a lot of RNG.

Actually, I had the N64 version, and no controller pack so no save so had to beat him each time I wanted to have his car or the following. Was not rare I couldn't unlock him... I think this cup and the mirror one, even worse, are the hardest in the game. I hate that Pirate island circuit... and those mummy curse though...

It mostly has to do that he uses a ton of greens and his cup has a track with 0 shortcuts while also having a lot of environmental dangers.

How is that driving back and forth over the finishing line possible?

Every track has a bunch of invisible checkpoints you have to drive through to trigger a new lap. On ~half the tracks the only checkpoints you need to hit are really close to the finish line, so it's faster to just drive back and forth over the line and turn around at specific points to make the lap change trigger. It actually works on all of the tracks, but it's a lot slower on some of them than just doing a full lap because the checkpoints are far apart.

Glitchless might actually be more fun, because it just means doing all the tracks fully instead of doing the back-and-forth lap skipping thing (which some people probably think is boring). I'm not personally interested in TASing the game, because the RNG manipulation seems daunting. Although I'd definitely like to see one/help with the planning.

Basil the Batlord was my favorite outfit and car, but I could never figure out from his voice clip what head was under the mask. I liked creating characters and cars from my Lego sets growing up. I had a waverunner guy in all red with a blue helmet, and of course the cold guy in the ATV with the white helmet and orange visor. Veronica Voltage was a pain to unlock.

This game is so difficult. No idea how the 6 year old demographic could beat it. They need to fix the insanely fast CPU cars and then have more building block options for the cars. Games like this should funny and free to play but instead everything is locked out. No one goes back to this to show off lap times like Gran Turismo. Cart games should be fun.

Hmm, alright. When i record it in 30 FPS, the output video is somehow "laggy". It simply seems that it looses a bunch of frames. I however record from 1024x768 input (tweaked resolution in LEGO Racers) and with 1920x1080 output. I also tried with 1024x768 input and 1024x768 output, but the video still appear "laggy".

I recorded in 640x480 since that's the resolution of the game. Maybe your computer can't handle recording at higher resolutions?

What system are you on? On PC, the skips only work on the 2001 version of the game (there's also a 1999 version that doesn't have the lap skipping stuff). I'm not sure if it works on console, but if you're on N64 or PS1 then that might also be a reason for it. But yeah, other than that, it should be really easy (just driving back and forth).
