Lego Racers - Nintendo 64 Review - Ultra HDMI - HD

Fun but completely useless fact This was in fact the ONLY N64 game that would feature an option to play the game in Danish (Lego is Danish afterall) This was actually a really big deal for me personally. It was so crazy for me to actually see words on the screen that I could understand at the time, without the need to call in my parents to translate everything. Seriously, English speaking countries have no idea how easy you had it growing up in this regard xD

That's probably true. And it's also a good idea for game targeted at a young audience, but still it was a REALLY rare luxury on the N64. PS1 from Disney would sometimes have a Danish option as well but if you picked the N64 port, it would usually be abscent. Oh, and another useless fact I got told. Apparently Lego Racers is supposed to be the only game where Gameshark codes would work the same if you used a Action Replay. I even tested that back in the day.

I remember beating this as a kid and needing to constantly get the maxed out green brick powerup that warped you through a significant part of the stage. I dont think the last level was beatable without doing that, and you needed to do it several times per lap.

Oh man, I still have this game. I have a lot of fond memories exploring the tracks trying to find more short cuts. Lol. Anyway, as someone who still plays this game, I've never had the delay issue on controller. So I find that a bit strange. But I do agree that the lack of four player was a big issue. Even if I was an exception and only ever had one person to play games with.

I had fun with this title, i played this with my lil bro and i played story and even completed and beat all the time trials, that was the most satisfying accomplishment i had in a kart racer was winning the time trail kart

This game would be good if it had a decent multiplayer, but the only versus option is a 1x1 race with no cpu. That was a big let down for me.

Actually ,the controls are very tight and responsive when you play on pc. I used to own a pc version (I've got no idea where it is now) but when I tried the N64 port I quickly found out how difficult and awkward it is to control your cart. I still consider it one of my favourite classics, though (specially the pc version).

The PC version is the definitive version, but getting it to work properly on modern PCs can be a bit of an issue.

I thoroughly enjoyed LEGO Racers on N64. I didn't put as many hours into it as MarioKart obviously, but it stands out amongst the myriad racers on the console. Definitely in the top 5 most memorable for me.

One big problem with this game is that the fully upgraded turbo speed is so powerful it's not worth wasting time with the other powerups. None the less I have good memories taking turns playing this on the PC.

I enjoyed watching your review! It reminds me of the Lego Racers retrospective I wrote for the N64 Memories blog. You should review Rocket: Robot on Wheels next or in the future. It's a criminally underrated game developed by the developers behind the Sly Cooper series, Socker Punch. I'm glad I'm not the only one who have negative criticism about how the karts or the whole game handled. At first, I thought said game have camera issues but I guess that's not the case. My Nintendo 64 racing alternatives are Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing and Snowboard Kids. I'm still gutted I never got the chance to play Snowboard Kids 2.

I don't think I heard you talk about the power-up system, I thought it had a unique thing that the other N64 racers hadn't (the white blocks). It's not a bad game, mainly the audio is bad.

Hey there N64 Glenn Plant. Just like to say I enjoy your videos, since the N64's my favorite retro console to collect for I find alot of it to be really informative. Wanted to ask as an Idea for a future episode you should check out this game called (Rocket: Robot on Wheels) It's a 3D platformer for the N64 that's all but forgotten, also I think it's worth checking out as being the infamously first game of Sucker Punch Productions, who were known for creating the Sly Cooper series, and later the Infamous series (no pun intended)
