I think it's time for Lego to bring back the nice box art for Expert-level sets instead of the generic black background for all 18+ sets!

I mostly agree, good points. These days we're missing original themes with world building - this used to add so much depth and imagination potential to the sets. No set stood by itself. Also, the instructions were not as dumbed down as today's instructions. And the boxes, they made all the difference! Apart from that, I do think that today's building techniques are much more interesting. The potential is there, we just need a good theme. BTW, and please set the audio level higher next time, I could barely hear you. Keep up the good work!

Quec question, how were the instructions "dumped down"?
@Brickido
@Brickido 7 ай бұрын
@@dedalionarts6077 several ways: 1. each page contains the explicit list of the parts that were added. 2. each stage adds only a few parts - mostly one or two. 3. the model is shown from different angles- they tell you to turn it around and upside down, etc. in order to tell you exactly where the part is to be added. I don't say it's bad, and for complex models it is required, but it takes away some of the challenge.

Personally, I'm a big Star Wars fan. But i think, the older LEGO sets, and older Star Wars sets was better than nowadays. And the video was great! Keep it up!

You're being nostalgic. The Lego City sets based on the cartoon, Ninjago, Monkey Kid, and the sets based on the Lego Movies and Dreamzzz are all wonderfully designed sets.

How can I be nostalgic for sets that were made 20 years before I was born lol and I never had as a kid?

Hmm, as a kid who grew up in the 80's, I still love the original lego space series. I also adored the fabuland range for younger kids. That said, I purchased all of the original lego star wars sets. Regardless of what people might say, I still feel the falcon is the best version of it - because it looks and feels like lego. The characters still have yellow head pieces that makes it lego. I collect the Harry Potter, Star Wars and BatMan sets these days, but I totally agree with the point you are making. That said, you could argue that Lego had to evolve and adapt to stay relevant in a world where building blocks now play second fiddle to ipads and consoles 🤷‍♂️Lego is more of a collector thing these days in my opinion. That said, I think some of the licenced sets from 2011 - 2015 still hit the sweet spot. They still bare the hallmarks of the original lego concept with old skool studs showing and yellow red & blue blocks at play especially in the BatMan range. Nice Vid though. Made me think👍

The success of Lego Star Wars shifted the focus from building toy to model building. Faithful recreations of pre-existing designs. Sets became more detailed, bricks became smaller, builds became denser and denser. Therefore discouraged to be taken apart and rebuild on your own. Lego focused more and more on adults, that's where the money is now. Either nerdy collectors who want a model from their favorite intellectual property or people who will only ever own one single Lego set that they bought on vacation. The attepts to capture the imagination of the perceived iPad generation have failed miserably because Lego doesn't understand that the building toy can stand on its own. That it is a *building* toy should be the selling point. But no there always needs to be a TV show or app to go with the set. This isn't long term thinking, business wise. The child will stay on the app or switch to KZbin or Netflix instead of building a relationship to the set. Lego fundamentally doesn't understand their target audience: children. And instead pivoted to self-serious adults who need to be constantly validated for buying bricks. "Look how luxurious the packaging is! See how complicated the build is!" This is what robbed Lego of its charm and will damage the company's sales figures going forward. Since future adults won't have any nostalgia for Lego.

Thought I really miss old sets, there is nothing wrong with today’s sets. You just have impressive diversity and choice. I really do not agree with you at any point. This video just sound old pensioner who claims the old laps were better than LED light, but both give light for the same purposes. If you don’t like it, don’t please don’t buy, more for us who appreciate Lego. And anyway, compared to how much people earn and how much it costs, Lego was never cheap in his whole history. Sorry.

Clearly all your points are wrong. The box art isn’t black boxes, you proved that by showing all the modern set box art in this very video. The only black boxes are the ucs sets aimed at maturer audiences, that have a sophisticated look. Lego still creates non licensed sets, city, creator, ideas. And like you say, they even bring out continuations of old classic themes. Lego is expensive, it’s going to cost more than it did when you got it for free at Christmas. But it’s quality and lasts forever. How can you say something like dreamz doesn’t have creativity or unique mini figs? I’d like to see you say that to the faces of the designers instead of on the internet. And just because they have there’s not targeted to an adult man, doesn’t mean they don’t have other themes. You should be praising them for their range. And finally if you hadn’t noticed, you can build whatever you like with Lego. That’s the point. If you want basic simple designed houses, go right ahead, you can do that. I’m convinced this is just a big troll video to stir up outrage and we shouldn’t encourage it.

Not a troll video, not sure where you got that from, the black box art is not sophisticated. It’s depressing. Thank you for the comment!
