Over the Top with this model/moc! From the initial Shuttle build/mod (which by the way was epic on it's own)...to now the booster rockets and platform. The extensive amount of research and choices you made clearly shows your passion for the brick...and the coup de grace' you added lights...madness! I'm on the side of hesitation in painting bricks (as in not to paint them). Finally, the video was most excellent as always. Absolute respect sir!

The standard set is great, but those additions and mods look superb! I can't believe how big it is. Great video, as always, by the way!

Cool video, thinking about getting this set now. So if I go for the TheBrickFrontier version does the lighting fits right in or do I need to make adjustments for that to get the same result like yours? Thank you! And I'm pleased to hear you may be taking on building the BrickFrontier's version of the Launch Pad & Boosters + Fuel Tank! As for me fitting of the lights and making adjustments I free -styled my changes and did not keep track of parts and I won't be able to make instructions. When you build your platform come back to my video and have a close look at some of the overhead views that I show in the video - that should give you intel and inspiration to make your own updates and fit off the lighting kit. While I can't help you with specific parts or instructions if you do get onto this build and need advice I can help if you need. Cheers, Simon

I'm doing exactly the same thing, having already bought ng_designs instructions when I found the launch platform instructions, which were free. I built the entire model in the Bricklink Studio before buying parts and discovered the necessary change in the dimensions of the platform. I made the changes and am now at the point where I'm going to do the final mounting. I'm wondering how you married the boosters to the platform. I'm attempting this using a 10 length axle that goes from the platform up into the boosters. I hope this stabilizes the model. I also am finding I had to adjust the point where the shuttle attached to the tank because of the height of the mounting points for the shuttle on the platform. I also removed the shuttle landing gears and closed the bottom of the shuttle to make it look better. Fun stuff! Thanks for the video.
@CraftedBricks9 ай бұрын
I had similar problems Geoff! The underside center of the Booster dishes (2x2 anti-stud) rests on the 2x2 round bricks (or did I use plates I can't remember) of the platform center supports under each booster. And yes like you I had to adjust the mounting position of the Shuttle on the main fuel tank to ensure the rear edge of the shuttle cold rest correctly on the extension coming off the twin pylons of the platform. Funnily enough over the weekend I accidently knocked the whole thing over! I caught it mid-fall but I'm actually going to take it all down, pack it away for now and eventually re-build this going for The Brick Frontier's fuel tank and booster set-up so the whole thing is properly integrated. I'll need to rebuild the platform too. Job for a future Simon! I'm glad you got this project completed!!

As usual you did such a great job to achieve something sparkling, accurate and super detailed 🚀 I love so much the intro with archive images and the model which is taking off : awesome simulation + light 🤪 The trial error process is very well explained and it is really part of making MOC or custom models or reusing fan designer design. I am very tempted to make it, but 4000+ parts are a lot of brick (I mean pricey at the end).

Maybe this will answer your question: I recently pulled mine apart, with the intention of building The Brick Frontier's version at some point in the future. I'm partially blind and am part of a few blind guys i know who love to build Lego sets. We can not only feel them to build them, we can also enjoy them by feeling our way through the build. Anyway, I have this set and had all sorts of problems with the non-Lego orange parts, but can get help with that. The problem I'm having is with the bases being too short to reach the wings. Where can I find the instructions to build this launch platform? Are the parts all standard issue or are any of them custom parts? Thanks!
@CraftedBricks2 жыл бұрын
Hell there - good to hear from you! I've included links in the description of the video to TheBrickFrontier's designs on Rebrickable. And all of the parts you will need to build his base for example are standard Lego parts that you can buy from BrickLink. All the best! Simon

@@CraftedBricks Okay, I went to the link you provided, but (with my wonky vision) couldn't figure out what to click on to get the instructions. Do you sell the launch platform instructions and/or parts yourself? Thank you so much for your help with this!
@CraftedBricks2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jared - which version of the NASA Space Shuttle to you have? Do you have set #10283 - the big version (Shuttle Discovery) released in 2021? OR do you have the Shuttle Expedition set #10231 released in 2011? I think from the sounds of it you have the smaller set #10231. If so then this model in my video is a completely different model and the launch platform will not suit the one you have as it will be way too big.
@jaredwjackson2 жыл бұрын
@@CraftedBricks No, mine is Lego set #10283, and I fully agree with you about the vertical stabilizer on it being a little wonky. The current stand's I built from the booster rocket set instructions could possibly work, but that would mean the connection points on the bottom of the shuttle would be in very vulnerable places like under or even in front of the front landing gear. So I selected to position my shuttle to where the fuel tank connects just behind the front landing gear and the rear landing gear being as far back as it can possibly go. Is that what you did with yours? I think my booster rocket set is the MG Designs set. Thank you so much for your help with this!
@CraftedBricks2 жыл бұрын
@@jaredwjackson - Ah I see ok very good. As for your original question: just go to the page on Rebrickable for the base design. Then the instruction links are up on the top right hand side. As for the parts you will need, click on the Inventory tab to see the list - you'll need to order these from BrickLink. I assume if you've built NG_Designs model you are familiar with ordering parts on BrickLink. Please note as per my video if you want the 2x boosters and shuttle to fit from NG_Designs model on TheBrickFrontier's base you will need to make changes so that the two points under the two booster rockets are 1 stud each further in - see my video for this. As for connecting the Shuttle to the main Fuel Tank yes I did the same as you are saying. All the best with this - it's a challenging but very rewarding project!

Looking into this one, is there a feature on rebrickable that allows for mass purchasing of the parts to this set? Or do I have to physically select every single one.
@CraftedBricks2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - from Rebrickable you can click on the 'Buy Parts' tab on a moc to find BrickLink sellers that stock the parts you will need. But for a MOC of this size you will need to place multiple orders from different sellers there's just no way a single BrickLink seller is going to have everything. That said I do not recommend that you buy parts via this way, you are much better off to create a BrickLink wanted list from the MOC and then place your orders from BrickLink directly. That way you can track your progress to getting all the parts you need. There is a tutorial video on my channel on how to buy parts on BrickLink. I hope this helps! Cheers, Simon

Hi Ice Man, you can buy the parts you need for these builds from BrickLink, and the inventory of parts you need is listed on the respective Rebrickable MOC pages that I link to in the description of the video. My god! The tank, boosters, and launch platform is over $1k 🫨. It looks amazing but is there a cheaper way to get the parts?
@CraftedBricks Жыл бұрын
Hi Cody, yes some of these larger MOCs can be expensive! There are two options on cheaper parts, but I personally wouldn't do either of these things, but I'll share the intel with you so you have options if you choose to take this project on. If buying official Lego parts from BrickLink you can buy used parts instead of new, these will be cheaper. The problem is that you never really know what you are getting, used parts can be discoloured and scratched. The second option is to buy non-Lego parts from Webrick (Google them). Again I personally wouldn't go down this path as on trying sample of their parts the quality was so-so, but I've heard from other people that they had a great experience with their parts. I hope this helps : )
