My childhood friend was a super fan of Star Wars, particularly the prequels (having just premiered in theaters with us, then-elementary school kids, being the clear target demographic /cough). Whether it was a game, toy, costume, or decoration, if it was Star Wars-themed, he had it. It nearly reached hoarder status by the end of elementary school. We'd play his video games every time I visited, and roughly half of whatever Star Wars or off-brand duplicate games we played together I felt pretty neutral towards. If it didn't have Ewan McGregor, my schoolgirl-celebrity crush, it didn't do much for me, but I always wanted to see my best friend happy, and he seemed happiest when we played any SW game together. We were still lively and goofy while playing anything, too, so he made it fun regardless. And then, suddenly... He showed me Star Wars Battlefront II and Lego Star Wars. Waiting until I could go to his house to play them couldn't satisfy my cravings for more Ewan McGregor, especially the best and most expressive pantomime ever given by a silent Lego version of him. I went through hell and high water to earn enough to purchase those two games for the PS2 my family shared because I craved 24/7 access. Seeing the two-player game footage here brought back so many funny and silly moments of my friend and me playing the game together. c:

I just wanna say that I played this game with my brother when we were kids and you guys talking about this game brings me back hard core to those days. Part of me just misses my brother as we now live across the country from one another, but also just how simple and easy our relationship is and how games like these brought us together. So many hours put into bond games, lego star wars, and a million other shitty ports to the gamecube that we played; I miss it. One time when I was 7 (way back in 07, yeah that's right I'm a 2000 kid give me money) I accidentally killed my sister in the first level of IV and my sister pushed me by the head off my bed and I fell head first into my toy bin and had a big harry potter esque cut on my forehead. This game destroyed sibling relationships but also gave them something to talk about 15 years later.

6:27 "they definetely will" - you guys haven't played any of the recent lego games it seems 😄 they've gotten rid of the merging splitscreen quite some games ago, which I found kind of sad. The screen now is split into two most of the time without any option to merge it. Maybe they thought the twisting splitscreen line was making people sick or something, my brother and I found it really neat.
@Plumtopia2 жыл бұрын
First game I saw it in was Lego Harry Potter, which I thought it was perfect for, cause I thought it was supposed to be magic when I was a kid. Also holy crap that game came out 12 years ago now
@Booksds2 жыл бұрын
It seems the new game will be entirely over-the-shoulder camera instead of using the fixed perspective, so the merging screen wouldn’t make much sense. I read an interview somewhere that Tt originally went with the semi-fixed view so that kids new to gaming didn’t need to worry about camera controls. Nowadays, the popularity of games like Fortnite and Minecraft among young kids has made the devs realize they don’t need to simplify the game as much. (Plus they can assume a base level of familiarity with camera controls). Hopefully this leads to even better level design!

Excellent content. Brought back very fond memories playing this with my sister over the holidays. I actually think the screen pull on co-op added frustrating fun to the game and was a charm in and of itself! I’ve noticed the newer Lego games seem to actually have dialogue but for me the silent slapstick humour was hysterical and any dialogue would’ve taken away from that. That said, R2-D2’s death scream was a golden bit of “dialogue” that my sister and I still impersonate today. And we’re in our twenties.
