In 20 years LEGO Star Wars has improved. A LOT. Perhaps no LEGO Star Wars comparison highlights that better than the 2003 vs 2023 TIE BOMBER! While the original 4479 TIE Bomber has one slight edge over the new 75347 TIE Bomber, it won't be enough. The new LEGO Star Wars set is just too good!

the 2003 bomber is just a great play set for being so early, plus the modularity of it is great too, so easy to store

Absolutely love the newer version more. 20 years really does make a difference. Also, when firing the big FU missile, I feel like the Commander Cody buildable figure should've been replaced with Jyn Erso. That would've been the cherry on top.

The only real thing I am going to miss about the 2003 tie bomber is the modularity. As the wings were held on with technic pins, and the middle section was too, I used to make my own budget Tie Advanced. I think the wings on the new one are held on with pins but the two parts of the body seam to be properly tied together. (Which isnt a bad thing, just means I will have to buy a second one to modify.)

Looking at the old TIE fighters I really wanna try making a blue-and-black TIE fighter using modern techniques sometime. It's such a nice color scheme even if the grey is technically more accurate.

I really like how the older sets with their blocky builds and arch pieces had a bit of an architecture vibe to them. Also superior pew pew pew functions in the old one. From a pure model look, the new one totally nails it, and it fits in scale to the '21 TIE, so shut up and take my money :)

For me the old sets i like because they allow for more play features, but the the newer ones obviously look better. But what i think what was perfect in 2008-14 lego Star Wars was their design. The sets had a perfect blend between model and Lego toy.

In my opinion, the bombing feature on the 2023 model is very lackluster. Lego could've definitely done better than 4 flick-fire missiles, perhaps using more pieces on the function itself than the little ammo cart

@@domenickeller2564 The stud shooters came out in sets just after I stopped buying and playing with Lego. I saw that new feature in stores and thought if kids actually use the stud shooters as there'd be an easy chance of losing the studs

It's a really bad design with no thought put into it, neither from an engineering standpoint or a playability standpoint, and that's frankly the running theme with modern lego. We could've had the ingenuity, iconic looks and fantastic playability from the classics mixed with the complexity of modern pieces nowadays, but instead it feels like the people designing for lego nowadays are just... kinda stupid, not gonna lie... Not to mention that they seem to almost completely lack creativity.

Oh man, I got a Lego Tie Bomber off eBay back in like ~2002 before the official set released. It was an moc someone had made out of Tie Fighters or maybe even the Tie Interceptor. It's fascinating to compare it to these two. Might have to make a video breaking it down.

Have a tip for everyone here, If you get a set that comes with an AT AT pilot or tie pilot, you could just get the balaclava face from 2012 or just a plain black head so it looks more accurate

The 2003 Tie Bomber's cannon will spontaneously fire if you have it sitting on display. So while it is cool there are some potential issues that can happen.

This new one obviously blows the roof off of the 2003 set! With the TIE Interceptor coming out in spring/summer of next year, I'm already expecting us to possibly get Darth Vader's TIE Advanced as early as winter 2024.

2003 version of the bomber has better play features, and ultimately that's what matters for me and most kids. Sure the new one looks cleaner, but if I wanted accuracy I would buy an airflix or Hasbro model.

I have the 4479. This new one is nice but I'd have preferred a cockpit that is transparent and a better bombing/missile function over what is in the new one. Perhaps just the pilot figure, blue tips on the bombs (easy switch) and putting the big momma missile in the new one as well. Time to work up a moc!

2:22 that hatch snags on the left side. Slowly close it and you will see where it catches. I dont mind it though cause you can display it like that. Mine does the same and id imagine they all do. My question is and i cannot see it in any of these videos but is there a decent sized gap between the hatch and body of the ship? Mine doesn’t quite sit as snug as id like but oh well.

I know it's all wrong, but I can't help but like the black and blue color scheme. I also wonder how the Bricklink costs for "building" the sets compare. I know it's not as reliable or consistent as just accounting for inflation, but it would be another good factor to consider.

I personally prefer the bombing function on the new one, you can have it higher over a target and still hit it easily, being able to perform the surgical strikes the TIE bomber is known for. The missiles can also have more of a punch than just dropped pieces depending on how you push them. Also, the TIE Advanced in the Death Star Playsets and Vader’s castle have windscreens you can’t see through, if those count.

The 2003 tie bomber is the first lego set I bought with my own money and didn't get as an present. I was 10 years old on holiday in Hungary with my grandparents and friends of my parents, bought it in Budapest. It was my price possession above everything else from lego back in the day. So for me it's an personal one and the 2003 wins def! But yea nostalga doesn't make it an fair comparrisson for me😅

One of my dream sets is the 2008 The Force Unleashed Rogue Shadow set. My goal is to save up enough money to justify buying it later this year. One thing that I would make it more worth buying is if there was a figure of proxy in the set.
