The shaping of the cockpit threw me off too until I looked at some actual images of the Interceptor that has given me the opinion that this is the best shaped and proportioned TIE interceptor Lego has ever produced.

I’m really liking this Tie, I really like the pilots sphere especially compared to the previous UCS Imperial Tie Fighter from a few years ago. The support struts over the pylons are accurate but a little large. Those wings are terrific!!

The description mentioned some arm printing for the pilot, i guess thats about all. Not that it matters offcourse, imagine buying a huge tie interceptor just for the slightly more detailed pilot figure included

Tie pilots do have the imperial insignia on their shoulders, so that would be cool to see on a minifigure, but hopefully they make another set where that figure is more easily obtainable because it would be pretty crazy to have such a small detail only be available in such a huge expensive set

For some reason, my brain just isn't seeing those curved parts as "straps". My brain is totally buying it as a "basically-sphere", and I think it looks really really good.

No TIE Interceptors for over twenty years, multiple UCS X-Wings during that time and now they do two Interceptors at the same time like the R2D2s. 🤦 I dunno, maybe they saw a good enough response on the playscale one or just thought it was overdue, who knows.

The strap issue was the first thing I noticed, and it kinda ruins it for me. After seeing so many sturdy customs that get the round shaping right, it’s disappointing.

That would be really cool, especially if they used a lot of metallic coated silver pieces. The chrome ones would be even nicer but Lego doesn’t make those anymore for pretty understandable reasons. But if they used the metallic silver everywhere that it’s possible it would still look really nice and if it’s well designed and as sleek as that ship is intended to be it could be a very beautiful display piece.

I 100% agree, ever since the original leaked photos I've thought that "strap" look on the cockpit really ruins the overall look. The curved slopes don't even have the correct curvature either so it looks lumpy.

from what i can see from the actual ORIGINAL movie models is the front 2 sides of the sphere are actually flater than a normal Tie Fighter so this lego model is actually very close to the OG model - HOWEVER in every offical toy, model kit, in the animated shows, games etc they all used the normal shape of the Tie Fighter cockpit

Tie interceptor is a BEAST in the original Tie Fighter LucasArts game. Tie Defenderis just cheat code 😂. If Tie interceptor had even weak, A-awing type shields it would be a great all around fighter instead of a glass cannon. I have the Lego Tie interceptor that came with the Mandalorian Starfighter and it's a good design, a lot better than previous models of the Interceptor. The UCS one looks great!

The problem with the straps are that they capture vertical curvature well, but that curvature is only that. From a diagonal profile and from up-top, it's like they stacked the curve pieces on flat plates, rather than capture horizontal curvature by having the curve plates on staggered plates. Not to mention all the awkward gaps. It captures a spherical shape from some angles and perhaps from afar, but that impression disappears when you get closer and see all the plating and awkward angles. Maybe it gets better once it gets into our hands and we can actually see for ourselves what that curvature looks like, but $229.99 is not money to scoff at either.

Hey Jang! I've said this before, but I appreciate a lot the number of currencies you list when discussing new sets! Makes the videos much more accessible and I want to remind you that little details like that in your content don't go unappreciated! Keep up the awesome content! I agree that the straps on the front look off. Everything else looks great to me, but the weird budging effect of multiple smaller diameter curves stacked looks strange, and the very obvious edge of the straps makes it look plastered on top. I wonder if the small 1x1 tile sticker could be a prototype, since I think Lego has done some photography of sets using prototype decals, so the final design might be printed onto the part. That's just a theory though. If it is a sticker, that would be annoying, but I think it's ok since this set is geared towards adults. That said, smaller stickers or stickers that are harder to place should come with duplicates just in case. Especially since the sticker is so small, it would cost nothing to print an extra on the sticker pack.

Funny, yesterday I watched your review of the OG UCS TIE Interceptor. Seems like about the same stand. But it is fun to see they used shovels in both models. Ow I zoomed in on the minifig. Thank God it is not the same as in the UCS TIE fighter.

I love the tie interceptor, but with how many tie variants there are, I would only be able to justify buying one tie variant as a UCS set. And Vader's tie is my favorite tie variant, so if they ever remake that one I'll probably pick it up. Minifigure scale tie variants are another story though.....definitely got a bomber and interceptor before they retire this year.

im sure you can put the interceptor on a flying position if you put it on the stand in a sideways position because that was the case fo the x wing so most likely you can do it with this!

I do wish the black sections on the wings had more of a smooth look, with a good stud/tile ratio. The gaps on the main fuselage look awkward. With all the new curved pieces lego has introduced its crazy the amount of gaps. Though it still looks very nice.

It's certainly expensive, but the original one from 24 years ago was also very expensive; $100 back in 2000 would be $181 by today's standards. $230 isn't ideal but it's expected for the size and detail of this thing This looks brilliant, not one I'll go for but it looks great. The other litmus test is will the stand fall apart like the one from the UCS X-wing from last year?

I think the exterior of the ball was sacrificed so they could make the interior look as good as possible, but I’m not sure why they would make that sacrifice, it’s baffling to me.

The straps jumped out at me. There are many MOCs of TIE fighter cockpits that look like smooth spheres. This looks bumpy like a raspberry, not smooth and spherical. With all the 1/4 round curved pieces lego has recently added, one would think there better ways to achieve that shape at that scale. Still a great design, but the straps are distracting.

I don't like the studs in the middle of the cockpit window piece. All in all I don't think it's worth it. I really want a tie interceptor, might take another look at the interceptor that came out earlier this year but again I don't like the fang fighter that comes with it.

price per part is obviously a pretty silly metric for this because the majority of pieces are quite large, but it definitely is a turn off for me as a Canadian. 300 for it is tough to swallow.

It’s kinda like the UCS Hulk Buster all over again. Bigger doesn’t automatically mean better, especially if you sacrifice the accuracy and look of the build just to make it bigger. I’m surprised Lego hasn’t realized that, but maybe this was designed back before the Hulk Buster got all that backlash so it was probably too late to cancel this one after that. Hopefully for future sets they’ll realize that you should only make a set big if it has a reason to be that big, not just for the sake of being big.

I don't like the cockpit and attachment to the wings. It looks clunky lego pieces, breaking immersion for me. The wings look better than the Playset. The gyrosphere look to the cockpit I can't get past at all. I've been playing Starfield again, and that cockpit just makes me think of something you find later in the game. I guess the gyro-sphere is the "straps". I hate the straps. I really do. Now it looks like a seat belt a slingshot ride at an amusement park a strapping the ball in. This is most likely a pass for me. Especially at that price point. I have much higher expectations for higher priced sets.

I was hoping to see a UCS Invisible Hand, or something novel that hasn’t been done before… that said, I get it - Lego can “tighten up” and improve upon a previous model that has had appeal to buyers in the past. It’s kind of like Hollywood movies: we get sequel-after-sequel because they’re safer for the investors than new IPs which are more risky - but honestly it gets a little boring to see the same things again and again - and we all miss out on those finite resources going into novel projects. A UCS Hoth base, like the Cantina set, or a UCS Death Star wreckage from Rise, or a UCS Throne Room… the creativity and inspiration must flow (oops, that’s a Dune reference, not Star Wars). Lego has brilliant designers - let them focus on novel sets more often (especially with Star Wars since it has a wealth of excellent ships and locals to explore).
