People are drawn to the extremes of human behavior. Thats what ww2 is, on a huge scale. I get why people want to depict these battles. Okinawa especially saw a lot of those extremes. Mass civilian casualties and suicides, U.S. ships being hit by kamikazes every day for weeks at a time. It was crazy. The huge size and scale is interesting to people too
