Those of us watching this movie when it came out had to wait an entire year to see how it ended. And yes, Smaug is headed for Lake Town. Bilbo's mysterious answers gave away that he had gone through that place. Smaug is not a dumb dragon.

This trilogy is a fun little fantasy adventure romp. There are a lot of very valid complaints about the manner in which it was executed, but it's fun for what it is.

I love your reactions. I watch a lot of reactions to my favorite movies and books to get ppls pov. You have seemed to pick up details in each of LOTR Trilogy reactions that are in the books. I had to see what you thought about the Hobbit Trilogy. Again, these are very cinematically pleasing and give me great joy. My favorite is the unexpected journey! Rings of Power next.

FYI check out "The Tolkien Edit." MUCH BETTER fan edit that takes out ALL bs that wasn't in the books, & cuts it into 1 movie. The way it should have been.

I was disappointed when I heard that they were making The Hobbit into a trilogy - it made sense for LOTR, as it's such a huge and epic tale and was originally written in three books anyway, but The Hobbit was quite a short story, written for children, and it just seemed like a money-grabbing decision. However, I do still enjoy the films and I'm always happy to spend extra time in Middle-Earth! 😎 Many will tell you not to bother with The Rings of Power, for various reasons, but personally I quite enjoyed the first season ... and again, more time in Middle-Earth, albeit set many eons prior to the times of these two trilogies. Love your reactions always, Mr Valentine! 😍

The Desolation of Smaug refers to the effects of Smaug in the region and not TO Smaug. Smaug is the Desolator in other words. Erebor, Dale, etc. has been utterly destroyed and nothing grows there anymore. Great reactions. These movies aren't terrible, but considering the source material and the faithfulness of the LotR Trilogy to them compared to the lack thereof with these Hobbit movies, the criticism is warranted but if you can divorce the movie from the literature, then it is a much more enjoyable experience in Middle Earth.

I always thought, as a form of subterfuge, it'd would've been great if when Smaug called Bilbo a liar, Bilbo responded with: "Liar!? Why I neve- ::sputtering:: of all the insul- ::more sputtering:: I can't beliv- ::even more sputtering:: Now see here, Dragon! ::points sternly:: I have not traveled halfway across Middle Earth to have my integrity called into question by the likes of you! I have half a mind to march out of this mountain immediately and tell everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE I see, what a rude host you truly are! Good day to you sir!

Yeah, this movie and the next one were not as good as the original trilogy, but that’s okay.

The first two movies really aren't bad, and I appreciate the inclusion of the council storyline (it took place at the same time, but it was only described in the appendices). Unfortunately, the third film is so bloated Hollywood shenanigans that it doesn't feel like Tolkien's story. However, it's still better than Rings of Power: I think a lot of people revised their opinion of the Hobbit's quality after that trash was released.

The movie in itself isn't bad. There are certainly much worse films out there. But when you compare it with the book, a small children friendly book, more lighthearted than LOTR, then you clearly see how bloated the trilogy is, with sensationalized and often absurd battle sequences against bad CGI adversaries (cgi isn't bad, they're just worse than the LOTR natural Orcs), made up characters and story arcs for the sole purpose of fullfilling a Hollywood movie checklist and making a trilogy out of a 1-2 film story. Also, you can see the quality dropping off from movie 1 to movie 3, as more and more fluff is artificially and progressively added in
