This as a straight forward look at the various racial societies back in the day

Corey Feldman really was a good actor, its a shame that he didn't get the material that could have advanced him to the next level. Hollywood chewed him up and spit him out, and it's messed up.

Danny- to my thoughts- had seen all of it. Heard all of it. And he's sitting at home, a crappy one, with a sick mom. A baby sister who is going to be vulnerable in that life very soon. He sees only one family..one way out. But he also witnessed a brutal thing, done by his hero. He saw the fallout..the pain. He wasn't fully committed to the 'life' like derek...it was just the only world presented to him where he could have 'pride' we devalue these things but every human needs to be proud of themselves. If they don't have healthy options, they will find others. That's what we need to start taking care of. Everybody needs to be heard and cared about or the whole world will suffer

People tend to misunderstand what "black face" is. Blackface was used in early plays/ motion pictures to ridicule African Americans. Coloring your skin brown to give homage isn't anymore blackface than the Wayans brothers coloring themselves white.

24:31 I wasnt ready for the "Auf Wiedersehen" XD Thing is these right wing americans wouldnt even be able to understand any word since they are just role playing as nazis, apropriating german nazi culture and its symbols. Nobody talks of cultural apropriation in these cases but its the same damn thing.

Interesting that you mentioned Sunset Boulevard near the end. An Oscar footnote is that Bette Davis' powerhouse performance in All About Eve and Gloria Swanson's powerhouse performance in Sunset Boulevard are alleged to have canceled each other out in the Oscar voting for Best Actress, allowing Judy Holliday to slip through and win for Born Yesterday.

The only thing in this movie that doesn't ring true is the fact that the location was switched from Stephen King's native Maine to Oregon, probably for technical reasons in filming. Nothing wrong with doing that except that so many of the characters have French names (Lachance, Duchamps, Cormier) which are common in Maine but rare in Oregon. To me, the signature scene is when the deer crosses the tracks, and Gordie says that he didn't tell it to anyone until the moment he wrote the story as an adult. The acting, of course, was brilliant all round. The character of Chris was based on a real person, and in fact it was the death of this person in real life that inspired King to write the story. His portrayal by River Phoenix was mind-bogglingly sensitive and powerful. His death at an early age deprived the world of a great actor. Wil Wheaton went on to fame in Star Trek, Corey Feldman to success in several films followed by a troubled life (much like the character he played here), Jerry O'Connell starred in several successful TV series, Kiefer Sutherland followed his father's footsteps into stardom, and John Cusack, already a success before this film, went on to a solid career in film.

Love the reaction! Love that you really got to enjoy it despite the “spoiler”. But the story is so good it doesn’t matter. Both this and Green Mile are highly allegorical. Watch them in that light… Also, your chair looks uncomfortable.

I read this is 1982. Stephen King was unknown at the time, and that title! I TV surfed onto this in 1998. I joined in at the early "fresh fish" scene. As soon as Red said "Andy Dufresne" I new I had found this lost treasure! It was a real treat to hear your terrific vocabulary Mr. V. Carry on brother.

Hi I'm from Italy i'm a fan, for me Sergio Leone's films invented the anti-hero, but in general he brought cultural concept of realism, made in Europe; in real life even a bad guy can do an esteemed job of high institutional value, even a good guy can do a job that is little appreciated or almost marginalized in society, captainhe was a man who also thought about the lives of his soldiers, he was not a war machine as some might imagine. i think ugliness represents "raw life" , that whoever suffers it fully becomes in some way a victim of events and not an executioner, even if an accomplice, this somehow makes him ugly. For this reason ugliness in the end is a good person who has not survived the difficulties of life, more it is fair to say that he has become part of it... the part with the meeting with his brother priest reveals this aspect, then for this reason the time for the ugly story was longer because it was more necessary.
