Kinda has to be. Didn't they say that when he fell down he crushed the three biggest mountains in the world (the three peaks of Thangorodrim at the gates of Angband)? Of course, I'm fairly sure Tolkien believed the Silmarillion was a Mannish translation of the Elven myth, and thus sometimes inaccurate (subject to embellishment, I believe he said) - also, Tolkien's notes gave conflicting descriptions about the Balrogs. In his early notes, the Balrogs were only 6-8 foot tall demonic creatures, but were generally foot soldiers for Morgoth. By Lord of the Rings and his later notes, he'd restricted the number of Balrogs (that being said, when they appeared, it meant things were about to go down). Still, though. Feanor faced off against Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs (and got skewered). Fingon fought off a Balrog in a duel and only lost because another used its flaming whip to gank him. Ecthelion pulled a Gandalf to bring down Gothmog after losing like both his arms? And don't even get started on how powerful Glorfindel is. The First Age Elves had so much more powerful magic than later ones, and they were super overpowered... Hell, Fingolfin went out and challenged the Dark Lord to a duel - and almost won. The second most powerful being to have ever existed, Morgoth was in a class of his own (of course, its debatable whether he STILL was by that point - Tolkien implies he poured most of his strength into Middle Earth itself to corrupt it and was thus weaker than he let on - and the scars of Ungoliant were still present). The Elves are overpowered. In the First Age, the orcs were worse than Stormtroopers in comparison - legions and legions of orcs would fall to single badass Elves.

When I watched the hobbit with my friends, we actually made our proper movie; -Legolas was a simp, and he was raising his kill count only because he thought it was the only way of surprising Tauriel. Then every other scene with Tauriel and Kiri were pure gold. --Also Legolas wasn't spying the orcs with Tauriel, he just wanted to take her to a Motel. -We called the boss orcs "Pedro el Tuerto y el pálido manco". -Gandalf was the senile old man. -Saruman was the blah blah blah man. -Smaug was soooo lonely, that the only reason why he didn't kill Bilbo on the spot was because he wanted to chat with him. Tauriel left because he encounter the only person that doesn't actually talk all about darkness.

I joined my first message board to discuss the upcoming LotR trilogy. And I loved those movies. But of course we all saw the flaws already, in the depiction of Legolas as a arrogant superhuman murder hobo especially (that Grima kill had us gnawing our teeth). A decade later, Jackson made another trilogy that didn't just amplify those flaws. The entire trilogy revolved around those flaws. Thanks for framing this ship heap in a way I can enjoy.
