Let me get this straight... the NHL picks two Canadian teams IN THE PLAYOFFS to address the embellishment problem? All teams do it. All teams should be put on notice. All teams need to be treated exactly the same. The NHL should, in the offseason, TELL all the teams that embellishment will be penalized more often and harsher. @@emperoralvis6559 I’m well aware. I grew up a Canucks fan in the lower mainland. They’ve definitely had some dark seasons. Over the past decade or so. But so did the oilers. Back when the sedins were at their best, the oilers were absolutely terrible. They had the decade of darkness, and it really didnt brighten up at all until they were able to draft McDavid. Both teams have definitely had terrible management. I’m just glad that there’s the potential for them both to be good for a while to come. But nothing is guaranteed. So I’ll enjoy the show while it lasts.

The plywood was not thrown away but kept as a reminder "Where there is bad, good wins over"

The Oilers are not going to be able to have their way with the Canucks like they could with the Kings on the PP and 5v5 I think the Canucks are pretty hard to play against. They may have more raw top end talent but I don't think they have as much character, grit or determination as the Canucks. Canucks are hard working and bought-in to Coach T's system and are also very talented (make no mistake there). If they can frustrate the Oilers offence and stay out of the box I think Canucks could take this series in 6 or 7. If Demko makes a return half way through then even better!

Nashville ended up with nine more power plays than the Canucks in the last series... what really won them the series was the Canuck PK or lack of creativity for Nashville's power play. Anyway, the Canucks cannot end up with that kind of power play deficit against the Oilers, so I hope they watch for the embellishment because I think that will on the Soiler's end.

If the NHL cracks down on embellishment in this series I think it's more likely to be Edmonton penalties honestly. I don't notice the Canucks diving a lot. Maybe it's my bias talking. Even Petey who falls down a lot I think it's more of an issue of him not being strong on his skates.

I haven't watched a tonne of games live this year, but I don't recall embellishment happening too much on either teams. Petey on the Canucks does fall seemingly easier than other players, but he isn't nowhere near the flopping like you see LeFlop James does it in the NBA. So why is Bettman warning just the Canucks and the Oilers? Setting up for his crew of referees to be calling embellishment penalties in the conference final to ensure that no Canadian team would advance to play for the Stanley Cup?!

Vancover will try not to take any penalties but thats pretty hard to do against certain players. There is a chance that the Canucks goalie will win the series for them but there is a way stronger possibility that the more experienced Oiler team will expose his lack of playoff time. I think Vancover will come out flying and score first and the Oilers will scratch back from a deficit and win Game 1 and 2.

The last time the canucks went anywhere in the playoffs van fans rioted looted and set cars on fire when they lost. Edmonton fans are use to being in the playoffs and have lost with style and grace. The internet and social media in particular amplify everything. This kind of trash talk has gone on for decades. If anything, because we live in a very different world now, the trash talk is probably less than what it used to be. 25 years ago, people would have gotten slurred all over the place. I remember as a kid who was put in a religious school by my parents, the rumours going around in the late 90s concerning Mark Messier's relationship preferences. A teacher actually first suggested it in one of my classes. So whatever is going on via the Internet is nothing compared to the stuff that used to be said about players and opposing fans. We're just a lot less tolerant of the insults than we used to be. Some kid insulting another fanbase using choice, non-PC words would be just another Tuesday in a school playground. I'm not saying it's right, but I think the outrage is a bit much. As for embellishment, it strikes me as odd the timing of all of this. Guys diving to get calls has been going on since I started watching hockey and probably before that. I remember in the 90s it being talked about on the REAL Hockey Night In Canada (on CBC) and everyone knew who the main culprits were. The refs responded perhaps appropriately - by being reluctant to call a penalty every time those players fell to the ice. You just hoped you didn't have one of those guys on your team or you may not be getting the calls that night, depending on who the head referee was. I remember hating Kerry Fraser, Captain Hairdo himself, one of the few refs in the 90s who didn't wear a helmet and looked like an 80s Ken Doll because he had his favourites and if he called a penalty against the Canucks, it seemed like he enjoyed skating from one end of the rink to the other signalling a penalty, with his hair blowing in the wind. Now, we hate ALL refs. Back then, we hated certain refs more than others. Bill McCreary was one of the better ones. What I don't understand is that when an official identifies a dive, he'll send both players to the penalty box, which makes less than no sense. Maybe if the refs ignore it, players will learn and stop doing it.

Easier to get away with if it's ONE game, much harder in the playoffs (opposite of what some argue)...tocchet knows this.
