Grew up in that area. Nobody seems to know why it's called John Brown's cave, and there's no records of the abolitionist John Brown being active in the area. Just records of it being called that dating back the late 1800s. 🤷♂️ It also fills up with water after heavy rains.

My old stomping grounds I totally forgot about partying at John Brown Cave lol....soso miss Iola, the cement factory my great grand father and his son's my great uncles built the cement factory. They were all from Eweing Kentucky came built cement factories Iola and at Mildred.

Minor point, but the fossils don't come from the Western Interior Sea (formed 100-60 mya; Cretaceous) but a much earlier sea (323-298 mya; Pennsylvanian).
