I think it's because he doesn't take photos of people from 50 yards away, from behind in strong shadow and then call is "street photography" like most KZbinrs. A shame, because this is the kind of street photography we should all aspire to.

I know this is an older video, but do you usually zone focus and get them this sharp always?
@Narsuitus Жыл бұрын
@@wanderlustdetailer Yes, I usually set my 35mm lens to f/8 and set the focus distance to 5 meters or 15 feet This gives me a depth-of-field from 2 1/2 meters to almost infinity or 8-feet to almost infinity. For my 21mm lens, I set the aperture to f/8 and set the focus distance to 2-meters or 6-feet. This gives me a depth-of-field from 1-meter to almost infinity or 3-feet to almost infinity.

Thank you for watching!! There is something about the 21mm. I agree. However, for me it got a little boring after a couple of years. It does certain things well and I found myself using it for those things all the time.

First and foremost, I thoroughly enjoyed your videos just for what they are. Thank you. Secondly, I stumbled upon them completely by chance. I typed, Leica M System into the search box and your video appeared. I’ve typed those words multiple times and never once did your contributions to my decision struggles ever come into play. But today when perhaps I needed them the most, there they were. I’ve been going back and forth for weeks (since this June) on which lens to purchase. Leica Elmar M 24mm f3.8 asph or the Leica Super Elmar M 21mm f3.4 asph. I was leaning towards the 21 but desperately wanted to see actual images captured using that focal length. And after all this time, TA DAH!, there you were. Thank you for helping spend my money with absolute confidence that 21mm f3.4 is the right decision. Be Blessed, Doc Chaps. PS: My favorite expression is in Black and White photography.
@WalkLikeAlice3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Ours is a new channel so I guess Google has decided to index it!! The main advantage for me with the 21 over the 24, is the increased depth of field when shooting zonally. There isn't enough of a difference in focal length and field of view to recommend the 24 over the 21. I also think the 21 is more of a classic Leica length. My mind immediately thinks of Jeanloup Sieff's fashion and landscape images, Klein's street photographs, Depardon's documentary and street imagery, and Tim Page's war photographs.

When you take the pictures are you nailing the framing or is some done with cropping? When I try with my fuji xpro 2 I can never quite get things right in frame without using the viewfinder. Thanks
@WalkLikeAlice3 жыл бұрын
Most of the images you see are pretty much as they were shot. Some may have a slight crop to take away something distracting on the edges but I want that wide-angle look. Cropping tighter would lose that. Having said this, there are a couple of images which have been cropped a little tighter. I simply couldn’t get close enough when I saw the image and I didn’t want to lose what I saw just because I wasn’t close enough. It’s hard to shoot this way as it can be frustrating at first, but practice and perseverance and, most importantly, sticking to one lens are the keys.
@paulpearce73753 жыл бұрын
@@WalkLikeAlice thank you, I figured it was a matter of practice, I can never quite get the camera pointed at the right angle! Do you use the view finder on top much? Thanks
@WalkLikeAlice3 жыл бұрын
@@paulpearce7375 with the 21mm there are no frame lines in the viewfinder and it isn’t wide enough to see the angle of view that the lens sees, so I have to use the external finder whenever I need to step back and compose an image.

I really enjoyed looking at each scene wondering what part of it you'd photograph, I got a few right, lol. It looks like you take your pics while still moving - if that's so, how do you manage that? Or are you stopping. Loved the pic with the kid in the pushchair, it's awful how often we see that, those parents don't know just how quickly that kid will grow up and they'll regret spending so much time glued to their phones.

An observation not a criticism … Just like yourselves I am a long time ,avid Street Photographer, with a similar photographic eye to yourselves. But you seem brave enough to do what I fight shy of, and that is including children; very frustrating because they can be incredible subjects. How do you rationalise this? Perhaps walking with your lady helps? I dread the thought of being challenged by an angry parent if spotted…. This is a daily dilemma for me, and frustrating because In miss so many great opportunities. ….A great subject for a future video perhaps ? I have just transferred from an RX100 V to acLEICA Q 116 …and loving it…

The best photography videos mostly come out of Britain. Why ? RS. Canada
@WalkLikeAlice10 ай бұрын
As a serious question, that could be the difference in cultures or it could be the YT algorithm filtering out all the UK content in favour of US/Canada. So you don’t see the bad stuff. As a non-serious question, we invented the damn thing 😆
