LEICA TL2 - review of an icon of DESIGN

20 years of passion for photography lead me to look after the perfect camera years after years...
But does it really exist?
The search for the perfect camera is in vain but the pursuit for the excellent camera in relation to a given situation makes a lot of sense.
How did I reach the LEICA little word? That's my story shorten in few minutes that I share with you today.

This camera is soooooooo understated. The build quality is phenomenal. I love the quality of the shots and using M lenses on this is a dream. One of my fav cameras and even better that no one else uses it lol

Yes now we are 2 on the planet !!!! I definitively agree with you and don’t understand this understatement. But I have an idea about it: the Leica people don’t understand this TL2 compared to a M... they prefer the CL. The only thing missing according to me is to activate the touch screen while the eye in the EVF visoflex in order to move the focus ...

Great !! Now I will 'focus' on S1R & TL2 . Out go my Fuji kit and my Olympus kit and the SL typ 601 was here briefly but is gone back to supplier. My Nikon D850 ... >>>> OUT ! Stay will my Leica R lenses with L adapters and .... Didier you will love this : My Leica R Mount Angenieux 45-90 lens, a most weird lens to use but such a great image output. Typical French: Soft , friendly , tack sharp !!

I just got a SL 601 recently and I like it a lot Today they are at decent prices and they really shine when used with the SL glasses, mostly the 24-90 which is stabilized. I made the mistake one year ago to sell my TL2 … the quality of the pictures in such a small and elegant format is flabbergasting

@@DidierMOULINPhotography The SL typ 601 is actually a very nice camera to use if you are not hampered by its limitations as I was . Once you find the perfect setup of the 4 blank buttons around the LCD monitor you can operate it without ever looking at those buttons again, with gloves on is just as easy. So in a sense I was lucky I had to return it for a refund. But on the other hand ... I miss its simplicity and great image quality. I have taken an option on an other used one .... but that was before I learned so much about the S1R - which I think will be the last camera I buy ... being not that young anymore and I only do (a little commercial) Landscapes after an almost 50 year commercial Pro career behind to many camera s ;-)

@@theomaksor851 yes I really appreciate its simplicity and flexibility 4 buttons at the back + 2 on the top + 1 in the front are nearly all I need Of course don’t even think of using this camera for action but otherwise it’s really good ! The S1R and S1 are power horses but still not good at fat action. I guess the S5 II is better. Think of it 😉

I bought one because it is being discontinued and I know there will never be another cool camera like this in the future. Keep it my pocket with its 18 mm lens just in case my subjects have no patience for my M system and the Q is a bit too heavy on long walking days.

HI there. Thanks for your comment and my apologies for my late answer. I regret having sold my TL2. It was a time I he'd to make choice. But now, even if it has not a good popularity, I don't find any on the used market today. Paired with the 18mm and the TL Summilux 35mm it was a joy to use. I loved this little camera and unique design.

I have a much older Leica and it allows me to move the focus zoom when using MF.. I am confident that they would have included this function ion the TL2 maybe hidden somewhere

Keeping the shutter button half pressed and turning the focus ring of an AF lens allows MF I think. I need to try it to confirm. Thanks for your message.

Great video and now I know, that the TL will never become my camera: Too slow in handling. Both the M and the Q are faster in operation for a press photographer. The perfect camera is the one, you have at your hand. Take care and continue your good work!

Thanks a lot for your positive and encouraging comment. On ce you Master à camera it can be very powerful but the TL2 is not fast enought in parameter changing and does not have enought shotcut buttons to be a demanding professionnal camera. @@paulsehstedt6275 the advantage of the TL2 with its 18mm is that it is even smaller than a M (I own a M8) and I can take it everywhere in simplicity. The Q is too big for that. I come back about what you said yesterday. The TL2 is faster than à M for sure. Compared to a Q it might be slower maybe due to the AF. But come on, with the touch screen or even with face recognition it's very fast to take a picture. The best would be to make à trial session together if we were closer. It would be interesting and build à constructive expérience. Have a good Day

@@DidierMOULINPhotography Haha! I'm a big fat Danish press photographer, who put his M in his jacket pocket and good is. Maybe an extra lens and that is it. I'm not saying, the TL is a bad camera and I had one in my hands and figured out, the TL is not for me. There'll be always pro and cons and my limited fable for touch screen, AF etc. may influence my opinion. But good to learn your experience with the TL2 . Enjoy life!

Yeah speaking in english is a good challenge to perfect and practice my English speaking!!! Does it add viewers? Not sure. But I don’t care that much. I have no influence and no sponsor. All you see I purchase my self. Since this video I sold nearly all my Nikon lenses... no more gym at home!!!! 😂 I’m a Lmount guy now! And happy with my Lumix. Video shot on Lumix S1 and I don’t remember the lens. Welcome on my chanel
