I often use lens filters, believing they can protect the lens from dirt, moisture and potential accidents. But putting glass, like this Leica UV-IR filter with massive multi-coating on the glass, in front off expensive lens glass (Leica Noctilux 50mm f0.95), impact adversely the image quality? This video will confirm to what extent this lens filter impacts the Leica Noctilux 50mm f0.95., final image.

Is it more likely to see differences on images taken with the M8 only?

I owned the M8 and it lacked an IR filter on the sensor. The result was that it gave a better resolution than other digital camera's but with a very noticable colour shift towards purple on black textures. For instance a black leather jacket became a purple leather jacket. The text in the manual refers to world wide action by Leica. They made IR filters available for free if you had a lens and M8 or M8.2 registered on Leica.com. A rare F Up by Leica.

Thanks Olaf. That explains the unusual appearance of the filter. Very helpful information. Thanks

Leica put an inadequate UV/IR mirror cut filter over the M8 sensor. Your over the lens correction filter will only be appreciated in bright sunlight outdoors with a lot of UV/IR light bouncing around. The main difference being in fidelity of colour. The surface coating on the filter means that there will be discrepancies between the centre and the edge of the image circle on lenses less than 35mm in focal length. The lack of sharpness at f16 is due to diffraction. Anyway, you have nothing to worry about, but it pays to have a UV/IR cut filter out in strong sunlight regardless of the brand of camera.
