The 28mm f/2.8 Zeiss Biogon is a great lens for environmental shots for any M mount camera or M mount adapted camera.

To everyone online saying Zeiss lenses are clinically sharp, but haven’t actually used these ZM lenses, no they’re not, check this out. Fantastic photos.

Recently picked up an OG SL as a budget replacement for my Q, which became riddled with dust spots. So nice to be able to self-clean the SL sensor glass.

I absolutely agree with your points about not always using wide-open fast glass. I primarily use Fujifilm cameras these days and mostly with the f/1.4 primes. Since the Fujis allow for 1/32000 of a second shutter speeds with the electronic shutter, I often use f/1.4 even in bright sun utilizing selective focus even if it might not be the best choice... just because I can. I got the XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens which because of the crop factor only gives the equivalent selective focus potential of a 40-ish mm lens at f/4.2. So not enough selective focus to make it clear that that is the point. So I started shooting more in the middle of the aperture ring and suddenly my photos looked different. Mostly everything was in focus and I couldn't use blur to hide ugly things, so I had to think in terms of foreground, middle ground and background. And I had to move to assure that nothing distracted from my subject. I know all of this, but I have been so spoiled by that ability to blow out the background that I had been getting myopic in my approach. Shooting at moderate apertures has given my photography a different look.

Thanks so much for your perspective, glad you found a different way to shoot using variable apertures. I shot with the 27 for a while and couldn’t get the hang of it to save my life, glad you could get it. Thanks for taking time to watch and your comment. Thanks for the sub!

love the NYC photos! how have you found the colors on the Leica? looks like you have your presets pretty dialed in
@hunterhart1
@hunterhart1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I enjoy the colors, I shot on the Q for about 5 years so I kind of was used to this sensor. I think with every sensor they just just need a bit of tweaking is all. This lens tends to be more on the magenta side however, something I have to get used to. Should have mentioned that.

Awesome. I’ve been looking at picking up a SL, SL2, SL2-s over a Q3. Other then the price of the SL what made you choose the SL over the other options?
@hunterhart1
@hunterhart1 Жыл бұрын
It came with 5 lenses, that was the big deal for me. It has the same sensor as the original Q. I’d go Q3 over any SL because it’s going to hold its value but I have several interchange lens cameras so it wouldn’t kill me to not have the SL.

Amazing pics! It’s somewhat refreshing to see good photography on KZbin. I use a Nikon z8 with a 50 summilux but I’ve been wondering which 28mm to get. This video has given me some guidance, especially after zeiss announced they’ll stop making photography lenses.

@@hunterhart1 I prefer manual focus lenses for everyday photography, particularly m mount lenses because the lenses themselves and adaptors are relatively small. I find that manual focusing gives me a similar “don’t just take whatever picture” experience that you get shooting film.
@hunterhart1
@hunterhart1 11 ай бұрын
@@lucarondon have you tried any of the voigtlander lenses
@lucarondon
@lucarondon 11 ай бұрын
@@hunterhart1 yes, but not M mount. My analog setup is a Nikon F6 and I shoot mostly with a Voigtlaender 40mm f2. Beautiful lens: very small (for an f mount lens) very sharp with some character. Adapted F-mount lenses on Z bodies are still very large, so I’d rather adapt M mount lenses.

@@hunterhart1 Yeah I can't get rid of it on my SL2-S - doing some research today and have found Zeiss's recommended selected profiles for M cameras, but the same profile set doesn't seem to help in the SL2-S. What profile do you use in camera on the SL? I would loooooove to be able to confidently use this on the SL

Honestly, haven’t really had any issue but I haven’t pushed it a ridiculous amount either. It seems fine to me. I think as long as you expose correctly you’d be surprised how much you can bring back with older sensors.

@@hunterhart1 I had an XT2 and the DR was too limited to me (I'm a DP / cameraman and I'm used to have a bit more DR). 50R is incredible on this part (hard to clip anything if you expose right and you are at 400iso). Would love to have a "lighter / 24x36" still camera, but 50R DR is something that I don't want to miss :)
