Happy to see Dr. Kaufmann’s vision that I fully agree with. He knows what we want and are always worried to loose, to all the hype for plastic products and more techs ones.

I love history and politics just as much as I do photography. I just came to learn about how Mr. Ernst Leitz II saved many Jewish people from the Nazis during the holocaust. This makes me even more interested in the Leica brand and what it stands for. I have experienced what a block of metal, a Leica III from the yesteryears feels like. An absolute pleasure to make images with. To top that off, I admire the personalized feel that the Leica brand works for, despite being such a figure Dr. Kaufman follows back many regular people like myself on Instagram and so does the LHSA. Most Leica users are far from being professional photographers. Most of us are regular people who make photographs for pleasure and posterity. We have an eye for fine craftsmanship and enjoy the tangible goodness of mechanical perfection that Leica is renowned for. To most, modern technology is all the charm, but certain people enjoy the classics. In a world of Sony and Nikon and Canon, I still long for a good old Leica M Film Camera.

Always good to hear Dr. Kaufmann's thoughts - especially with regard to the future of the company. And I really appreciate his view of the M within their lineup, and how he sees it as an icon, and how it shouldn't really change - and why. And how he intuitively understands that for many of us, it's the ultimate go-to camera for a pure experience. Where form perfectly compliments function. Where nothing else on the camera competes with our attention, or interferes with the picture-taking moment . And where the build quality and lens quality remain a steady and unmatched standard within the industry. The are many, many, wonderful digital cameras on the market currently. And they are almost indistinguishable from one another. However, there is nothing like the digital Leica M. It remains uniquely unto itself, and as a photo-making experience. Just my thoughts.

What I really appreciate with Leica is the small M mount lenses. The Leica M mount lenses are the only full frame really small and light lenses with great optical quality and large apertures in the market. Of course they are manual focus and very very expensive. The autofocus full frame lenses with great optical quality and large apertures for dSLR or mirrorless cameras are nearly always heavy and big.

"It is not about megapixels but about photography"... well stated belief. I still use my Nikon D2Hs and still love the pictures that come out from it.

begs the question: why go from the M9 to the M10??
@aadvanderwell86025 жыл бұрын
Dear Dr Kaufmann, what I really like to have in an M type camera is a censor that detect the ultimate sharpness while fixing the sharpening ring manually like in my Nikon Dslr. In my opinion it is more precize than the M messsucher This way of sharpening is extremely secure, specially with the use of maximum f stops, (f-1.0, 1.4, 2.0 and so on. I am very fond of my M10P that I bought short time ago and experiment every day with it to get to know it for the best results. Henry Cartier Bresson is one of my high icons to learn from. Straight views of life as it is is the only important thing for me to catch. I wish you succes with the LEICA future in the brightest sence!

Any reason they didn't include an external microphone or monitor jack on the new Leica?

Nice interview, very casual and I like how he talks about Leica cameras and shooting. There was a point during the interview when I asked myself: if even Dr. Andrea Kaufmann says that megapixels are over-rated, then why would I invest in a Leica M10 when all the basic features of the Leica Rangefinder cameras are already there in the Leica M9 (fullframe, mecanical rangefinder, ISO setting at a touch of a button, mecanical dials for the most important ie. focus, shutter speed and aperture)?? So the real question is : how do you, Dr. Kaufmann, propose making a better camera than the M10? Isn't there a point in the development of this pretty little partly mecanical camera when development will (has already) become pointless? At one point, Leica LHSA will decide not to repair the M9 anymore which will make it obsolete...but that's a marketing decision, not a improvement/development related decision..... Thanks for telling it as it is.

Hello Leica Team Why do you use a comparatively old front front side illuminated cmos chip design instead of a bsi cmos design for your technology flagship ? Thank you for your reply best regards

Hello! Leica's choice of sensor is a complex analysis of performance to maximize image quality. We don't have access to internal Leica design documents, but the photo results are what matters! Hopefully, that helps a bit. Thanks!

How arrogant. Any top end professional photographer is not shooting a leica. They're shooting canon R5's etc. Because they have high megapixels, and their work requires it. Just because you shoot a leica does not mean "you know what you're doing", any professional using any camera knows what theyre doing.

I agree, photography is not only megapixel, it is also autofocus quality and Leica is the worst of the industry. The best lenses in the world are useless if the camera is not able to focus well in real life situations.

Interesting.video, But I do not have a Leica M digital, nor the SL2, as owning one models that have own that I have to be working in.a high paying job, and to do photography 24/7. Even I could not afford these toys, even so that I do own one Leica a IID as I dates from the 1930's but I will put a roll inside, and go out, and shoot as sure to the person who once own this model. But whenI attend gallery openings at one of the Leica galleries that I see the so call Leica shooters with their M models as these are the Leica wanna be shooters that bought these models, due to that they have money to burn as they dare I SAY Do Not know in what they are there for. OK as I see these Leica shooters just walking around in a daze like Zombies showing off in what they have, and taking photos of the photos. To me that is not being a photographer if you want the photo buy the photograph, or the book. Like I said all I have is One Leica, but I do have my collection of shooters that use the Leica or a 35mm camera, Bresson, Kertez, Capa, Erwitt, Riboud, Doisneau, Fred Lyon, Douglas Duncan, Gene Smith. My photo gear is use as yes I do have 35mm RF gear as I did borrow my Dad's Contax IIA for high school, and then I got Canon 7, and VT deluxe, then like my dad I too got myself ContaxII, and IIIa with Zeiss lenses. As it is not the GAS as they called it- it is the IMAGE that is important, no showing off, Imjust love the camera, and whet it represents everything when it was made originally made for to take images OK, and that one video of Leica cameras made the Jim Marshall BRASS MONOCHROME camera - as my view of it is WHAT A FUCKING JOKE. And n ending that I place my name at the Leica Gallery in San Francisco, and Have not been inform by future gallery openings so Screw them... Show enjoy your toys... While I am enjoying making images both film, and digital.
