Agree with everything you said about van Rensberg. Borthwick would be mad not to select him but it wouldn't sit right. Rassie should pick him just to disqualify him and therefore weaken England.

@24hr_rugby_jake15 сағат бұрын
@@peterp9918absolutely doesn’t. Bristol were without Macginty who makes their attack click and are we forgetting this is La Rochelle, 2 European cups in the last 3 years? Sure they’re not current winners but it’s not like they’ve fallen off a cliff. And Bristol messed up at least 2-3 nearly certain tries against La Rochelle, whereas nowell scored a wonder try, these little things made 35-7 seem like a bigger margin, if you actually watched it you would know it was closer in quality. Leicester also came 8th last year in the prem, don’t seem to be doing too badly in Europe 🤷♂️👍

I think it's safe to say if you think van Rensburg should be picked for England - as most England fans probably do - and if you think he's the answer to England's 12 shirt, it's absolutely certain Borthwick WON'T pick him. He'll pick a player who hasn't played competitve rugby for a few months because he kicked a penalty at the weekend for the reserves. I'd actually say England should not only pick Janse at 12, they should pick Pat Lam as head coach.

Bristol style is most like how Scotland play at International level I recon. Both try play with width and offloads or super fast rucks. Definitely can work, but maybe not now with way game rules seem to continually favoring big setpiece slow style kicking style. If rules really speed up, tough on blitz defence offsides, don't make box kicks so favored then game will become so much better to watch and attract new patrons

Much to be admired about the Bristol style of play; the quality of handling across the park and the way their forwards steam onto the ball at pace and hit holes in particular. However I think you're right Tim that the Premiership isn't close enough in style or intensity to international rugby to be useful preparation, supported by Bristol's results in Europe the last two weeks (admittedly against two of the best teams around). I'm sure I remember the Prem being criticised for being boring 10-12 years ago and it's almost like it's swung too far the other way...at least in terms of benefit to England. Makes for entertaining games though and playing like this could well win Bristol the Premiership title at least.

That's the worst I've seen the Tigers in many years... It was painful to watch, Leicester wasn't being able to conceive any attacking strategy without fumbling at the very last minute. Idk what happened, props to Bristol, of course (Ibitoye and Oghre were great too, besides all the players you've spoken about), but we're awful today. Our defense had as many holes as a swiss cheese, i don't think that it was because Leicester was missing some players since Pollard (who, alongside Steward, Kata, Liebenburg and now OHC is one of our most reliable players) was offpaced too... Kata and OHC were good tho.

Not convinced it does show that. I definitely think that the low salary cap in the Prem means there are issues when the juggernaut packs roll in. But I think they're really well coached and their attack is excellent. Bristol and Northampton are great examples of this. Saracens bullied the Bulls at home, Saints beat them at Loftus too. Respectfully I have had enough of this overhype of Bristol. They are a great team on their day but when it’s not their day they are just nowhere with their style of play, yes they scored the most points recorded against Bristol but they still managed to concede 4 tries they go all out attack but their defence gets sloppy I don’t think this style of rugby will work within the knockout system

Overhype? Record breaking score record breaking winning streak. If it ends now it’s still not overhype surely?
@rawndoug41022 сағат бұрын
@ overhype may have been the wrong word to use however their style of play is unlikely to win trophies it gives an attractive game of rugby but will be less effective in knockout styles of rugby as they concede a huge amount of tries - the only game this season that the opposing team hasn’t scored 4 tries was the opening round against Newcastle. They make the game look good but I doubt it will be effective in terms of winning trophies
