Personally, I think Leif's characterization gains a LOT from the canon detail that he's only 15 during the events of Thracia. This is a kid being thrust into the leadership role of not just a rebellion, but the rebellion that has to play Kaizo Fire Emblem. It's no wonder he fucks up repeatedly, makes impulse decisions that hurt people. He's forced to lead and inspire this army from the front lines at the age I was getting mad about video games online and jacking off 4 times a day, and he still ends up liberating the entire Thracian peninsula and ultimately the entire continent.

Poor leif having gotten the literal short end of the stick with only half of both the families bloodline, a chris level of stupid, and an almost immortal body that refuses to die. Seliph may have been conscripted to heroism but he has the means and the tools, namely a fregin dragon goddess given weapin and the bloodline to use it, AND some all so needed RES for a paladin class

Nice! Leif is an awesome main lord who overcomes personal struggles and failures in his life. At one point in chapter 9 in FE4, I let Leif kill Travant thus avenging his parents deaths in chapter 5.
