Awesome video! My dad took me fishing there around 1975. Me and my wife tried to hike there around 2012 and made it almost to the top but did not realize it. I was 52 and my wife was 70 and she just could not quite make it all the way. We didn't know we were so close. The last part is brutal. 2 years later I made it all the way to the lake with a friend from Nebraska and one friend from Iowa. Just about killed us all, tee hee but it was so worth it!!! I was just in Libby in June of 2024 and may go back next year, and maybe, just maybe I will hike this trail again if I can find someone adventurous enough to go with me. By the way, we have lived in the Philippines for the last 9 years.

MMM, just watched a video of a dive in this lake, NOT one fish! Maybe my memory is skewed and it was not this lake my dad took me to but a lake nearby. We did have to hike into this lake and it was for sure near here but we caught alot of trout that day and they fought like fish twice their size and there was a moose right behind us as we were fishing and no where to run!

First and only visit in July 1980. My brother and I camped out at the trail head and were visited by a black bear at breakfast. We were a bit nervous on the trail as many trees bore evidence of bears clawing at the bark for bugs. The way the view suddenly opens up as you crest the top is jaw dropping and sudden. The Video is great, but cant quite capture the magnitude of the 1000 ft sheer rock wall on the far side of the lake. We were the only ones there all day. Hope to make it back again!

I’m guessing this footage was taken in about mid June?? Curious because the way the runoff on that beautiful cascading falls and the remaining ice in and around the lake looks like the perfect time to go.

Stunning video but isn't this in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness where drones are illegal?
@darrelljacobjr21204 жыл бұрын
Who gives a sh*t? If this isn't the proper use of a drone i don't know what is. Stop being a helmet Nazi and just enjoy the stunning beauty of nature. Trolls...sheesh!
@GabeandGarrett4 жыл бұрын
@@darrelljacobjr2120 because it matters. You can fly drones in national forests, BLM land, many state parks. You can’t in National Parks without a permit which is difficult to get, but you certainly can’t in Wilderness Areas no matter what. It’s the only place that doesn’t allow any kind of motorization at all. Rangers can’t even clear trails with chainsaws, they have to cut by hand. You also can’t fly in airports or military installations. There’s reasons for this, if you care. If you don’t care, hey.
@lioninthesun4 жыл бұрын
@@GabeandGarrett what was the reason
@GabeandGarrett4 жыл бұрын
@@lioninthesun Hi! What was the reason for what? Saying this is amazing camera work but the drone shot is illegal because it's in a designated Wilderness Area where they are illegal to fly? We need to follow the laws as drone operators, I fly drones too but I respect the laws because it gives drone operators a bad reputation if we disregard FAA laws and Wilderness laws. We have a responsibility, especially if we're uploading them publicly online.

So how’d you get a permit to fly in the wilderness area?? I’m very certain you cannot get one. Sooo if the right person sees this footage you’ll be using the ad revenue from this video to pay for fines. I hike Leigh lake often and yeah I’d love to fly up there as it’s beautiful. It’s a wilderness area for a reason. Respect the rules.
