Who needs CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC when you have the best coverage of fissures, lava flow, and the wonderful stories on structures and the people effected. Great job Scott and keep up the great work. Take care.

They use his clips, saw it twice yesterday, I get excited, like I know him. I sit and eat dinner watching and learning. I never had any interest in Hawaii (my Mom watched Hawaii 5-0) or knew of its origins until now. USGS I watch a bit as well but this is where I start.

I am so sorry. You seem depressed, which is an entirely natural response. However, I am afraid that part if it is due to the reactions from this group of followers. You are part of this horrific, historic event. Most of us appreciate your honest, humble, and fearless coverage. You are phenomenal to keep on showing your neighbors and friends what they are unable to fathom. Please keep up your vlog (so to speak) to give us neighbors and voyuers something to see and for those of us who are now emotionally attached to you, some hint of how you are! Many blessings!!!

Still hard to watch two years later. I was initially mesmerized by the ferocious lava fountain against the pale blue sky. Then, as you started driving down the road, the magnitude of the devastation hit me. That and your voice. Hopefully, everyone was able to rebuild. You're an awesome human being and great neighbor to do what you did back then. Not many would have done that.

@stevenputney8790
@stevenputney8790 6 жыл бұрын
They are catchment tanks, for catching rainwater. The whole area is built on volcanic rock and littered with cesspools, nobody has wells. It rains 100-150 in of rain a year, so they catch the rain water for use in the home.

I sure do appreciate your efforts, Scott. USGS and HCCD are doing a wonderful job too, but they’re focused on the big picture rather than street level. The best aerial video I’ve seen was an early illegal drone video that showed the perimeter of the flows. I appreciate that you’re doing much the same with boots on the ground. Kaleo’s or Ning’s on me as soon as I get back on island. 🤙🏼

I timed how long the fountain in the video takes to go from peak height to the ground. 4 - 4 1/2 seconds, which is about 250 ft - 325 ft. Much bigger than the fountain at Rusty the Rooster's house. Insane. When Scott first started we were all hyped to see some action, now we are begging Pele to 'please make it stoooop!!'.

Go on Googlemaps to the street-level view at Nohea Street and Leilani Avenue. If you move a little north of that intersection you'll see the Speed Limit 25 sign that this video shows at about 3:08. Pan around to see what this area use to look like and it really puts in perspective how the landscape has changed in a short time.

Thanks for the update Scott, my trusted news source! I was thinking that, what you are witnessing here is so incredibly amazing, history in the making if you will. It would be nice, with the public interest of such events, to allow operators to do tours to witness this event. It is difficult for most of us in the world to get the opportunity to see red hot lava, the likes of which you all see every day there. Why keep interested people away, if tourism can be done in such a way as to not endanger people’s lives, yet keep a segment of the economy going to help rebuild this community one day? An unrelated question: Fissure 8 still going strong I see... is it possible that, if this keeps continuing the whole year that this might begin to form a new volcanic peek.i guess that wouldn’t be a good thing for the residents though, if that happened.

g1rl6oo , Yes. Another possibly deadly force. At least the power co. Has been cutting power where necessary. Rough time for Scott and his neighbors now...... Scott has made many new friends though, thanks to the internet!

I think it’s interesting how in some places the power lines are on top of the lava, and in others it’s underneath it.

Tim Halbach , I guess those that are exposed haven't had new flows go over it yet. But that lava has moved a lot in the last few days!

Sirens as long as using the videos is so monetized will always be first in search on yt and everywhere. Just not a good idea from a marketing social media perspective. Plus no way to manage the comments being many don't really know who's station it is they just hear Scott talking and think they are commenting to him.

Hover over the video with your mouse, and three dots will appear on the right side. Click "not interested" and it''ll ask you why. One of the choices is, "I'm not interested in (whatever channel)." Choose that, and that should stop that guy's videos from being suggested.

Hawaiian eruptions come and go in cycles. It's normal for these eruptions to stop entirely and then start again a few days later. The fact that it has NOT yet done that is a bit ominous. Fissure 8 has good connections in the underworld.

Very arbitrary destruction. One house stands. The house next to it destroyed.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ALL THE FAMILIES THAT HAS LOST THEIR HOMES? DO THEY HAVE AN INSURANCE? WHERE WILL THEY LIVE UNTIL THEIR HOMES HAS BEEN RE-ESTABLISHED?

Some are staying with relatives and friends. Others are in shelters. Last I heard the number of people in shelters was pretty small, so the assumption is that most are staying with friends and family. I think the numbers I heard were before #8 went crazy, so that may have changed.
