Absolutely agree which is why I shared it, and I'm very happy so many people are getting education and entertainment value out of it. Sadly the company that released the video and worked with the scientists to get all the footage no longer exists. I was fortunate to purchase a copy of their DVDs which I ripped without compression and uploaded. It would be tragic if all of these videos were lost, so here we are.

@@Aves81 I believe this one was called "Eruption Update: A Firsthand Account of the Current Eruption of Kilauea Volcano". I don't think I hung onto the DVDs after ripping and uploading them. Unfortunately, they are no longer available for purchase anywhere that I can find. I updated the description on each video that I uploaded from Volcano Video Productions to provide more information.

Thank you for this amazing documentary. Can you put together all this information in context which is very useful in understanding overall volcanic processes. As an amateur volcanologist I love watching anything about volcanoes and have been keeping track of what's happening in Iceland. And this presentation on Hawaii has been incredibly informative. So thank you again for such stellar work. I look forward to more about Kilauea and what's happening in Hawaii.

It's absolutely awful. For 30 years they provided so much value and now they are gone. Ken Hon (who was the primary narrator and videographer in all these videos) now serves as the Scientist-in-Charge of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO), so hopefully we get more content like this in the future as new eruptions happen.

What keeps the lava from pushing up thru in the ocean instead of pushing thru the ground on land. Seems to me anything producing that much lava. While underground doesn't the lava melt the ground above it incorporating it into more lava?
@pressureworks2 жыл бұрын
No.
@NFS3052 жыл бұрын
Lava finds a weak spot in the mantle. Either near the edges of a plate or in Hawaii it’s in the middle which is unique. It’s a very fine balance and for us to be able up walk right next to it while it is erupting is amazing. It’s the portal to the center of the earth.
@robert-zj7ef5 ай бұрын
Think about it. What you asked happened exactly as you mentioned. The lava erupted into the ocean floor. It kept erupting thru the same hole until the lava was above the ocean waterline. And it kept pouring out of that same hole and the island was created. As long as the the island stays in place, the hot spot under the island will continue to pour lava out of the same hole in the island ,,The same hole which has semi-liquid melted rock and has less resistance to magma being pushed up through the hotspot.

Fissure 17 the side that produced the hi-pressure explosions actually erupted andesite lava. Also you should do another series covering the acidic lake in the crater the 2020 eruption and the 2021 eruption as well
@alexburke1899 Жыл бұрын
Do you know why it’s producing andesite? Is it melting previously erupted basalt that has already crystallized out mafic minerals or is water mixing in somehow a catalyst? I wonder how many tsunamis these islands have produced over time when huge shelfs collapse into the sea and how large they might be.
@apismellifera1000 Жыл бұрын
@@alexburke1899 What happened is after the 1955 eruption was over the leftover basaltic magma undergound cooled very slowly in a process called fractional crystallization. Geologyhub has a detailed video about this eruption. Look for the video in his channel called Kilauea Erupted the Wrong Lava. About 10 years back a new well was being drilled at the Puna Geothermal plant the drill hit a pocket of dacite magma right where the 2018 eruption took place at.
