This is the only video where I can see a very detailed explanation of all the polar patterns with good demonstrations and examples. Very much required. Thanks buddy! Planning to buy an AT2035 for my vocals and just wanted to know more about the differences in these polar patterns and your video has truly helped! The video is very well put together as well!

While its nice having the option of a hypercardoid for reverb rooms, I wish i had known about its weaknesses like how dam close it has to be towards your mouth. Thankfully i added a shotgun mic to the lineup as well.

1:34 Cardioid mic. I have a usb condenser mic that´s a cardioid pattern. I see people using the same one in many different ways, like pointing to person, straight up or straight down. For voice over / streaming, I guess I should point it to directly to my face? Gonna try like this. Was sideways and getting full keyboard + voice. I think this video will make it all better.

For house bands and bands playing small venues with the monitors nearby, you absolutely want a cardioid mic for cutting down on feedback and crowd noise bleeding into the mic.

Fantastic video, thank you ! Also one question, at the first microphone demo it really hurt me hearing the sound of the demo mic going from whichever mic you recorded the main part of the video with. And I'm wondering why was there such a huge difference? Because of the room isolation or the mic itself? I'm personally looking more for the sound of the main mic and the sound of the first demo mic is exactly what I want to avoid (I'm not talking about the polar patterns, but about the sound). The sigma 2 for example sounded much better for my ears

What happens when you cup a supercardioid mic? I suppose it reduces the rear rejection making it more susceptible to feedback.

Great video! But I have. A question how does all of this interact with dynamic vs. condenser mics. My understanding is that condenser mics capture audio from everywhere that would make them omni pattern. But then why do we not just call condenser mics omni pattern mics? Is for example something like a supercardioid condenser mic possible if it does exist how is it different from a supercardioid dynamic mic?

hi, I'm wondering if polar pattern is closely related to the type of microphone (dynamic/condenser). I mean, is all dynamic microphone cardiod, or is there omnidirectional dynamic microphone?
@LeisuretecDistributionАй бұрын
In general you'll find that a lot of dynamic mics are cardioid/supercardioid but not all of them are. There are a few omnidirectional dynamic mics e.g Sennheiser MD 42, Shure SM63, Audio-Technica AT8004, Electro-Voice RE50B etc.

Which type is better for recording voice over in a noisy room?
@LeisuretecDistribution3 ай бұрын
It really depends on where the noise would be coming from, Caridoid typically has the best rear rejctions however super cardioid might work better depending on various factors. It’s also important to consider the angle the mic will be at. Using a Dynamic microphone over a condenser might also help as the reduced sensitivity will help, maybe even more so than the polar pattern.

@nuthinbutnikk172 жыл бұрын
I feel like the difference between cardioid's side and behind-noise pick up is kind of similar to supercardioid's behind noise pickup. Which means the side-noise would be cut out even more aggressive in the supercardoid. Am I understanding it properly? I'm not sure of what to get between cardioid vs super cardioid. The situation that I'm going to use the microphone is on a super noisy environment for a speech recording. The supercardioid does noise rejection better but what is the point when the back side of the microphone slightly picks up noise?
@malwebb12 жыл бұрын
@@LeisuretecDistribution And that's why they recommend having foldback directly behind cardioids, but at 45º to the rear of a supercardioid. Ah, it's all making sense!

Hey, I have a hypercardiod mic and it sounds great for recording podcast but I can hear a pen dropping in my kitchen is it normal ? is there some tweak to do (i'm a total beginner)
@Roseliatv2 жыл бұрын
There are mic suppression software out there that can help with this that helps focus only on your voice and block’s ambient noise. I’m not a super professional so I don’t know how to tweak a mic either but the software has helped me a lot! :)
