Lee is a wonderful musician, but you have touched and influenced as many. I count you as a major influence since Becker Brothers, Spyro (also met you backstage in 24th St. Band), Letterman, even Barry Manilow! Keep on Gruvin'!

I just don't understand why people even give a thumbs down on this interview.
@@MrSitemaster2 I'm not (I can't even play an instrument, just love those who made it their beautiful craft) and I couldn't even think of thumbing down Leland😁. I think there are "balancing robots" out there to even out the algorithms (or screw them up, depending on how you see it)

@@bennylloyd-willner9667 I was really referring to the guitar snobs that look down on bass players. Some see the bass as what you play when you're not good enough to play lead guitar.

I saw The Section when they backed up James Taylor in the 70s at Nassau Colosseum. The section opened the show and Leland came out alone at the start of the set and played a bass solo. This was around the time that Jaco and Stanley were starting to become famous and Leland held his own. he even wrote a composition for the section and it was played briefly on WNEW radio. He was always a tasteful player that played the song but also stood out. This is a guy that will always get work as a bassist.

I learned the foam rubber string mute trick years ago from Carol Kaye. You'll also remember the "ashtray" on the earliest P & J Basses had foam on the under side toward the bridge.
