Leman Russ | Space Wolves Primarch Returns Warhammer 40K Lore

There are many theories about the return of the Wolf King to the Warhammer 40K setting. But if you know what to look for, Games Workshop has made it clear that they are bringing him back, and it is going to change the Imperium of Man in a big way!
How do they intend to do it? Well, there is a lot of debate going on in the community as far as that goes, and it remains to be seen, but Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves is indeed on the way back.
But" I've been following the lore for years," you say? "Russ is never coming back!" Well, if you believe that, you are wrong. And while part of me wishes it wasn't true, the Space Wolves know it in their bones.
Of all the Legions of Space Marines that took part in the Great Crusade, the Emperor may have just trusted the Space Wolves most of all. And Russ was the Emperor's executioner. With that level of loyalty, Russ was entrusted with the darkest secrets of the imperium, and indeed became privy to the true nature of the Primarchs...including himself. Russ's sacrifice was extreme, and he was mortally wounded, but this may just be the mechanism that is used to bring him back.

Our next Primarch video is not so much a deep dive into the character, as it is a look at how he could return, and why he either should or shouldn't. With all the rumors in the community that Russ is next to come back to the setting, I thought it was a good time to tackle this topic.

Its either Russ, Dorn, or Vulkan. With Vulkan being the easiest to write back in to the setting because "hes a perpetual, he wasn't killed with fulgurite, the Salamanders found the artifacts of Vulkan in such and such way in such and such order" and bam hes back.

@@carna-9501 could be. But a Vulcan model will only make GW 40% of what a Russ model will make them. Just based on chapter popularity alone.

From what I've gathered from the ending of Leman Russ The Great Wolf, the Emperor has named him Protector of the Realm.

My king shall return, as a true son of Fenris I know this to be true. The death you speak of could be not a physical death but a psychic one, Russ as he was has died and he is reborn like Corax awakened to his full power. Personal I would love him to be the opposite of his brother Magnus with equally powerful anti psychic abilities howling and killing normal psykers.

@@InquisitorRomanov That's only a theory. We don't know what happened to those Primarchs, or anything about them. For all we know, they died in the Rangdan Xenocides and their deaths were covered up because your demigod-like generals dying to some xeno species isn't a good look.

​@@samiamtheman7379 Malcador confirmed it though. His chair even has skulls bearing the numerals 2 and 11, and Horus gets choked out by Malcador for even daring to suggest they be remembered at all. Malcador even mentions wiping their memory from the primarch's minds with Big E in the same story.

Just google it. If you want a definitive, canonical answer to the lore, everything is findable. If you want, deeper, meaningful conversation about different ways it can be interpreted, talking with the community is a great way to engage...but asking someone else, another commenter, to explain to you what is literally at your fingertips is pretty lazy if you ask me.

With the ties to norse mythology, Odin did die. He hung himself and stabbed himself in the side with his spear. For many days he hung there on the edge of death until he was granted the knowledge of the runes. I predict that if russ comes back, he will be less like a barbarian thor figure, and more of a wise Odin figure. Still wild in combat, but I think he will unlock his latent warp abilities and come back with some serious character growth similar to the lion. Also I'm not interested in a civil war among the empire so I really hope they don't go that route. There's enough enemies and demon primarchs that they could focus on.

they have revived 2 dead primarks and russ did not get super injured and put on life support he just went on crusade. bring back the most interesting factions guy. Lion and Guillman are so similar their legions mid range "tactical" posterboys generic mc shtick. We want the savage who can think like a gentleman with these gentleman who can fight like savages. fair play good vid but kinda funny he admitted to being to type of player that annoys be the most the dark angels player who hates on space wolfs. Your primark is back and is not happy with the dark angels so their fans defending them were wrong. Go on admit it. Lion did not "beat" Russ he sucker punched his brother like a spoilt brat while Russ stopped fighting and acted mature. same with angron. Dark angels team up with the inquisition in months of shame they are bad guys. its cool to play bad guys just years of DA players insist the dark angels noble nights and ripping on the faction that does actually help the common man.
