My mother was a church organist and used to play this piece on many occasions at the end of (mostly wedding)masses. She heard the piece once on TV on the occasion of the wedding ceremony of -I believe- one of our royal princesses in the 60’s. At that time there was no youtube or even a videorecorder. So she replicated the piece as she remembered it. Funny how we always heard a much altered version, which in no way could match the original piece, but it has always been a favorite of us. Thanks for sharing the original piece here.

The *PERFECT COMBINATION:* Jonathan Scott and Johannes Klais! - Can't beat either! And, as always, Tom's sound and videography are superb. 👍 ❤️ 👏 👏 [Note to a reply below: The caseless, exposed pipework is typical of the mid-20th cent. Neo-Baroque style of organ building - frequently seen especially in the U. S. - and works perfectly well in the "cavernous" acoustics at Saint Servais Cathedral.]

A well crafted organ in my book, played by a musical maestro. I salute you Jonathan with J.N Lemmens Fanfare. That is an electrical contact organ with the press down stop tabs. The copper reed pipes, are they the 16 foot contra bombarde, double trumpet or tombone/pousane stop? Those reeds are indeed very powerful.
Excellent playing, as per usual. Nice voicing on the pipework. Design aesthetic is very, mid-century modern...a box o'whistles exposed.

Pity hardly anyone plays it with the registration Lemmens prescribes. Why always full mixtures, full pedal? The pedal should only be 16-8-4' foundations, no couplers, suggesting a "timpany"-sound, btw the LH plays also the bass notes so no need to couple or to have full pedal. Manuals only reeds, 8-4 foundations (like a classical french grand jeu). Try, it's really a nice effect. Btw, nicely played on an instrument that deserves more attention!
@karlrovey4 жыл бұрын
Lemmens and his students assumed the mixtures would be included with the chorus reeds IF they were available. Also, on the French organs built during Lemmens lifetime, coupling would be assumed given the chorus reeds and general call for foundations. Finally, there is a major difference in the reeds on French Romantic organs and more modern instruments that mean we have to adapt the suggested registrations from what is given by the composer (something they also had to do depending on the instrument they were playing).
@petervandevelde47144 жыл бұрын
@@karlrovey Indeed, "Anches" often means adding also mixtures but in this case the registration is very specific, Lemmens mentions each stop seperately, so not "reeds" but: Trompettes, Clairons, Montre, Prestant and for pedal: Flûtes 8, 16, 4. And of course you always adapt to the instrument but the suggested registration certainly doesn't mean Tutti. And what about the nice pedal effect without couplers, staccato playing (as indicated) on Flutes 16-8-4, sounds like "timpani", you loose this effect when you put pedal couplers and heavy reeds in the pedals. I'm not rigid when it comes to registration, I only want to suggest to at least try out what is suggested by the composer.

That organ was built or rebuilt by a hack. It has a lovely sound, one can not argue with that - Of course the reverb may cover a lot of sins. Nice rocker style console but the case - What case?
@brucetominello74404 жыл бұрын
robert shaw if I have a choice of pipes or posts I choose pipes every time especially in a lively acoustic and housed where the architecture aids the projection of the sound.
@pamlawrence9211 Жыл бұрын
started too fast settled down- one should consider the reverb of the "room" for clarity- maybe also remove a few muddier stops, - need more melody - more break in notes on last final run with both hands. (or separate) manuals?) 🎉 overall fine work.
@maitrisendl92104 жыл бұрын

Really, Jon? Much too ponderous. It's a fanfare for God's sake, and besides it's French: clean, bright, elegant. This is a simple piece played by teens in church. It's not more difficult because you make it loud and muddy. How about you try for musicality rather than pomposity.
