Have a guy in my neighborhood with a 2 year old Carrier system that I ended up replacing the compressor, contactor, capacitor, txv in air handler and blower motor in the air handler all in a matter of 3 months. Our neighborhood doesn't have brown outs or any power supply issues. All warranty work. Definitely qualifies for a lemon award.

Interesting. Definitely sounds like a power issue of some kind. Possible a surge?

I've heard of manufacturing defects but mistakes in installation like that - brazing residue, moisture induced oil acidity, faulty connections, rough handling, bad locations, ductwork and or lineset too small, lineset in compromised routing, etc etc... That's going to be the dominant cause of problems.

I had a situation with my HVAC and the evaporator coil was replaced. The technician while pulling the line to connect caused a kink in the line. Then my wall had to be opened up and then the unit would not run, short story is it was technician failure along with their own equipment failure too! I get they are working in crazy heat and might not be as focus as they should be, but that is part of the job. Come prepare to deal with the heat. Just fix my AC!

Ouch. Sounds like they were at least willing to make it right after making the mistake. Sorry that happened!

As an hvac technician myself i have used dye many time but i know alot of people who really don't like it. For me dye is another way to find leaks and sometimes i wish it would just be put in on install so the leak search process would be faster. Dye isnt a silver bullet though, i still find leaks with my leak detector that did not show up with dye. Dye travels with oil, so if only refrigerant leaks out and no oil, dye won't work just like a leak detector won't work every time. For me leaks can be difficult to find and I recommend using multiple methods. Good luck out there, some leaks are very tricky.

Good points. I think we all have some doozies to tell when it comes to refrigerant leaks

I had a problem with the coil dripping water onto the air filter constantly. Their solution was to buy a kit which was simply a piece of metal that diverted the water to the tray. This was after the coil was replaced once. Ten years of putting up with this was enough for me. Replaced the system.

Only time I had a real lemon of a unit was a TXV. First one came from the factory stuck shut. The replacement one was stuck shut, the third one was stuck shut with a new lineset. Swapped the unit and it ran fine…. It was crazy, ive also had bad boards from carrier. Two boards were given to me shorted out, third one went in fine. Crazy tbh

I had a York system (gas/AC) with continuous failures on the heating system. Had all replaced including the AC. After 5 yrs, only maintenance (I do) and no repairs. I go with modulating systems that are more risky for repair needs, but like the balanced comfort. I think the York gas furnace was a true lemon. Pressure switches, inducer motor, two blower motors. Gave up when suspected secondary heat exchanger.

thank you for all your videos. can i bother you with a question? Would a 4-way cassette (properly sized, maybe 16,000btu) placed in a hall (right in the middle where 3 bedroom doors meet) be able to cool down 3 adjacent 110sqft bed rooms? or do you always have to put an air handler in every bedroom??
@NewHVACGuide5 ай бұрын
I’ve seen that before. You’ll have to keep doors open though

Lemons are created in the field. You missed the biggest errors that plague even packaged units. #1 is oversized equipment. # 2 is lousy ductwork. which is incorrectly designed and installed # 3 is undersized ductwork. # 4 is dirty indoor coils (installers and homeowners share the blame.)

Currently having g this issue. New system in September and they have been out countless times. Now saying they will charge me even if under warranty. First ac and then heat and now back to ac. So tired of it.
@Trinity-rc6ch5 ай бұрын
@@antoinettebolduc997 have them honor the warranty. Make sure you know what parts are under warranty and the time frame for each. For example, the condenser has longer warranty than other parts. This way, they can’t bamboozle you on it. And these AC companies have liability when they break something. Keep good records in case you need to send them a notice of liability.
