@@cringecande_9352 I feel like the main through line of the album is that every song has a "monster" whether metaphorical or literal. I admit some are stretches, but here's how I read it. -Zombie michael jackson (And companies reviving old dead properties for nostalgia bait and profits, and even some much closer things like Disney deepfaking young Mark Hamill into Star Wars stuff) -A lot of conspiracy theories are about monsters as a more literal one, but conspiracy theories are a toxic rabbit hole that drives people to paranoia and insanity. -The Cabinet Man -The No-Eyed Girl -Nothing needs to be said about When He Died -Insidious miracle cures that prey on the weak and desperate -Gef the Mongoose -Aliens! -The Soft Fuzzy Man -An abusive father. -The spiral of pain caused by that father's son, or maybe he's the father himself? There's a lot of interpretation with this song, take it as you will, and a lot of those interpretations will fall into my theory. Either way it's very connected to As Your Father I Expressly Forbid It. -Trickle down economics -Urban Development -Societal pressure and expectations and work and capitalism.. and well, there's also a good few ways to interpret Spiral Of Ants.

TO THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T NOTICE A DIFFERENCE: I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I have Sennheiser HD 400S's but it's really the actual instrumental that has been remastered and you need to pay close attention to. Certain instruments are amplified/emphasized in this remaster more than the original, just the same as some instruments have been lowered or muffled. The bass is much clearer and alot "thumpier" if that makes any sense. Twinkling "sparkly" noises are accentuated with cleaner and smoother highs. The drums in general have more of a soundstage and emphasis in this version which I personally quite enjoy. Certain high notes have been turned down for easier listening. I'm not sure if this is gonna make alot of sense to people but I really think it sounds more airy and light, aswell as much cleaner and crisper. I wouldn't say it's necessarily very DIFFERENT persay but its ENHANCED and given that extra umph that really makes this version preferable over the original. Now that's not to take away from the awesomeness that is the original at all. I saw someone else say that the label didn't exactly think the mastering of this album was the proper "style" for the type of music it is. And I would agree with that. OG Spirit Phone is obviously amazing but when you put a close listening ear to it (or maybe have $60+ headphones, who knows), this version is like the chefs kiss addition to what was already a pretty amazing album. TLDR: It is different (mainly instrumentally), and you just have to attentively listen to really notice the differences between this and the OG.
@solaribass24912 жыл бұрын
The main thing I hear is more compression. It gives it more of a commercial pop sound to it. Compression explains most of the sound differences you hear. Btw you don't need fancy headphones to hear it. I could easily hear it on phone speakers but it is even more obvious on my studio headphones.
@ducadionisio2 жыл бұрын

@@fishbones8698 bruh they ain't that fancy, they're like barely middle of the road, especially when it comes to Sennheisers brand in general. My 400s pair was like $70 CAD and Sennheiser has headphones that definitely go into the hundreds and even thousands.. I really wouldn't consider Sennheiser headphones to be that fancy until you start getting into at least the 500 (and over) series, that's when you hit the 3 digit mark and up.. I get how my comment could just seem like humble bragging but I was genuinely trying to help the numerous people I saw in the comment section saying that they didn't hear a difference.. Me imagining an entire animated musical starting with the revived singer from Lifetime Achievement Award making these songs and performing them to a crowd, as we cut into mini storylines with the conspiracy theorist, the same guy in No Eyed Girl dying for When He Died and then getting mellified in Sweet Bod, a short snap away for Eight Wonder and Ancient Aliens, with a lonely teenager browsing internet forums and chat rooms as the Soft Fuzzy Man before his dad walks in for As Your Father, then opens up about his job in Earn My Life, connecting to a tv broadcast for Reagonomics, leading into Man Made Object, then finally cutting back to the revived singer for Spiral of Ants as the lights fade and a cold wind blows... only for that same familiar stinger to play and the loop resets leading into a credits scene with the instrumental for Lifetime Achievement Award... knowing damn well that I can't animate and this will never come to fruition: 😶

This is gonna get buried and also make sense to exactly three whole people, but I feel like there's a lot to be said about the band Cardiacs' influence on Spirit Phone. Cardiacs were a sort of insane-pop-psychedelic-punk band led by the songwriter Tim Smith, who had a signature composition style filled with strange harmony and frequent shifts in tempo and time signature. Their album Sing to God (1995) is their most diverse and popular release, and previously Neil Cicierega has spoken about his appreciation for it. Lifetime Achievement Award and Ancient Aliens have the most direct comparisons in terms of composition, but glimpses of these influences are dotted all around various parts of various songs. If you want to hear one uncanny similarity: listen to the intro to Spiral of Ants and compare it to Tim Smith's Swimming with the Snake.

Cosplaying a LD character?! I love it! I'd say Cabinet Man would be a good idea, because you could just wear a fancied-up cardboard box made to look like an arcade cabinet. Simple, yet unforgettable. You could also go as the No Eyed Girl. You could go wild with clothing and makeup choices. But you'd have to be kind of resourceful with covering up your eyes. You still gotta see where you're going! :D Personally, I think dressing as the actual Spirit Phone cover would be an especially stellar idea. Find yourself a red jacket and dress pants, and paint your skin red! I betcha some people would recognize it, especially if you paint the white sparkle over your eyelid. Final idea: go as Spring-Heeled Jack. He's an already well-known cryptid who is familiar to people outside the LD fandom. And, dressing as him would allow you to get all steampunk-y! (So glad to see you again on the interwebs, SP. I am smiling very big at the idea of you going to a convention in a Neil-themed cosplay. Please, please do it, if you can make it to a con).

@@floridaflamingogirl3119 I was thinking of buying a satin jacket, pants, and a tie if I were to cosplay Spirit Phone so it could have the shine of an illustration without having to paint it on. A lot of people who are into today’s generation of Minecraft youtubers know Lemon Demon from Ranboo. I don’t watch him or any of them but if they recognize me and love my costume that would make my day >w< I don’t know how I would make it around in a bulky arcade machine costume ;w; Ooh!! And the way one of my friends interprets the No-Eyed Girl is based off a fantasy cosplay she saw!! I wouldn’t mind dressing steampunk either and I thought about a soft fuzzy man inspired outfit to wear casually. I’m SUPER HAPPY to see you again too!!! I hope this virus dies down sometime soon but until then I’ll be working on my costumes 🎶

I absolutely love how the album perfectly loops, especially with how spiral of ants is the last track with the line "the circle rules your life" just an amazing detail. I could listen to this album forever tbh it's just that good

I can't believe Neil remastered the song that got me hooked to him, for 7 years. 6:07 And if you thought it couldn't get crazier.. the entire album. This album started my life basically and hearing it again newer is unexplainable. It's like visiting a place you thought (know) was (is) real in your dreams.

its amazing how much better this sounds compared to the original. the ride cymbal in touch tone telephone's chorus, the sparkles in the beginning of spiral of ants, all so much more audible and it gives the songs so much more instrumental depth. brings even more life to an already energetic album. good shit needlejuice

Ok I guess I’m relistening to spirit phone to calm my nerves cause I’m stressing out, lifetime achievement award is good, Michael Jackson, pretty cool commentary on the music industry I hope this entire review comment thing doesn’t end up exactly like my last spirit phone review but you know who even remembers that one, I haven’t listened to this in probably like 10 months or less but it feels way longer, like a few years, as much as my music taste changes I will always appreciate lemon demon, view monster is probably the most familiar lemon demon album to me due to commenting every 2 seconds , touch tone telaphone, probably the most widely loved lemon demon song, and for pretty good reason, good production vocals, and concept I wonder what this guys theory was, when are we getting the new lemon demon album, just give me a single or something, tbh I would be very happy with a mouth album, just something I’m trying to remember the first time I listened to lemon demon, I know it was cabinet man, and it was like 2 days before Christmas im just trying to remember what year… yeah I don’t know, 2024 was probably the strangest year of my life, it has had huge highs and huge lows, I feel like I’m in the middle right now, was on a huge high but it can’t last forever, I would still say I myself is ok, cabinet man is so cool, I first heard in in an animation but I still can’t remember what it was, man I used to listen to this album like daily, still great doesn’t get old, maybe they were predisposed to madness, I remember playing hearts of iron 4 with my friends ( a ww2 strategy game) and getting bored and instead just leaving the game open and reading the spirit phone comments, I just have so many memories with lemon demon, I remember the first time I heard view monster I was on a car ride to Birmingham, no eyed girl is such a cool concept but in hindsight not as good as the first three on the album but still a sick song love the ending, no regrets, when he died is also a really cool concept and just really entertaining in general, the album cover is so cool, it kinda makes me think that since Neil and the cat both have a glint in their right eye, what is the other glint coming from in the dark??? There is something behind them possibly, man I really wanted to watch a movie today but now I gotta review all of spirit phone so I’m not stressed out anymore, love the bear on sweet bod, really obscure meaning for this song, but that adds to some of the humor of these songs on this album, Anthony fantano did not understand this song, but I do so that automatically makes my opinion on music more credible than his, to pimp a butterfly greatist album of all time? Get out of here! Hip to the javabean had now been declared the best album ever!, ok after this next song I might go to sleep, eighth wonder, I feel like this song has a different vibe to all the others on the album I don’t know why it just feels slightly different, I think this was the third LD song I heard, and it really solidified his great and creative songwriting, everything surrounding Geff the mongoose Is so funny rip you were a real one geff, ( mate got shot ), alright that’s me done for now I’m feeling better I think I can probably sleep now so see you

Damn Skippy and Javabean have been confirmed, but they haven’t figured out what to do about Candle Shop or Clown Circus since Neil only kept MP3s of those. I'm not sure if it's just the fact that I have Sennheiser HD 400S's but it's really the actual instrumental that has been remastered and you need to pay close attention to. TLDR: It is different (mainly instrumentally), and you just have to attentively listen to really notice the differences
@endermorpher86673 жыл бұрын
I think the best way to express a remaster like this after only listening to the original is something that would be in the album as a song. It's a uncanny experience hearing things done differently but the same
