i know i'm definitely late to both Lemon Demon and this video, but i thought i'd throw my hat into the ring here. 10. Atomic Copper Claw. it goes harder than any other song on Hip to the Javabean. i love the instrumental segment, it makes me feel like there's a dual at high noon between Mr. Copper Claw and the narrator. the paranoia is fantastic, and there are so many lines that just sound great. i love it. 9. My Trains. i agree with everything you said and more. easily the best song from Nature Tapes, it's incredibly fun to sing along to, and it's probably the most deranged Neil's ever been, which says a lot. 8. Sad. this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being sick. if i ever need a "really not feeling up to it right now, sorry" song, it's this one. the word mixing ("Cold plus listless, Kissed less") and incredibly clever lyrics ("Got no girlfriend, Pass the snow salt") add so much depth to it. 7. Lifetime Achievement Award. such a fun song to listen to. the electric instrument prominence fit the Frankenstein vibe so well. it is a perfect setup for the rest of Spirit Phone. 6. Touch-Tone Telephone. it was the first Lemon Demon song i ever truly listened to, and it hooked me hard. the a capella intro, the background strings, the unending amount of layers, so much effort went into making this song that i just had to hear more. 5. The Ocean. the only Lemon Demon song i would be willing to play at a party. it's an absolute jive in every way, and a blast to listen to. if i were to pick just one LD song to listen to for the rest of my life, it would probably be this one. 4. I've Got Some Falling To Do. the synths, the story, the vocals, the bizarreness, this is such an oddly fun song in so many ways. this one took a while to really grow on me, but, now, i really love it. 3. The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. a significant turning point in Neil's music career, and for great reason. singing along to this one is an absolute blast. while the original Dinosaurchestra version is iconic as always, i personally prefer the version on Live (Only Not). the extended finale, the added power to guitar and keys, and more power overall just improves the experience for me. it's a classic in every way, and should always be brought up when discussing Neil's best work. 2. Bill Watterson. i take back what i said about My Trains, this is the most unhinged Neil's ever been. i've been reading Calvin & Hobbes since i was but a lad, so hearing a song all about stalking him was surreal. it goes hard, the chorus is insanely clever and fun, the riff constantly playing in the background, and a running theme that has become all too common today, this is truly a masterpiece within the Lemon Demon discography. honorable mentions: all of them, they're all great. but specifically, The Machine, Jaws, Kubrick and the Beast, Kaleidoskull, Amnesia was her Name, and all the songs in your top ten. 1. Cabinet Man. Touch-Tone Telephone may have made me more interested in Lemon Demon, Cabinet Man is what made me hooked beyond belief. it is a culmination of everything i love about Neil's work: very bizarre rabbit-hole subject, the urban legend of Polybius; easily the most fun song on Spirit Phone; fantastic storytelling in just four and a half minutes; an bridge and ending that make me genuinely emotional; an absolute blast of a chorus and finale; wonderfully high-quality composition; synths and electronics befitting the theme; a strong message about wanting to be seen and loved, or even about new technology quickly overtaking everything before it; and the list goes on and on. it is one of my favorite songs of all time, and is probably the reason why my music taste has been able to branch out more recently. keep up the great work, mate. i wish you success in your video-making career.

The first time I heard My Trains I listened to the first verse and thought it would be a fun song to send to my Grandpa because he loves trains. That changed after the next verse.

It was hard to rank these as they change all the time but here is my top 10: 10. Marketland This song has such a cool atmosphere that feels very familiar. I love going to large, local craft fairs with vendors of all sorts all tightly packed together and doing their best to draw in customers, and this song nails that environment perfectly. It also reminds me of scrolling through those cheap online marketplaces with nothing of real quality to sell. 9. Bill Watterson This song is hilariously dark and I love how the character escalates from a strange but otherwise harmless stan to a stalker with malicious intent. I also love how the cheery (and very catchy) music contrasts with the dark lyrics. 8. Sweet Bod The first time I heard this I put it on in the background while doing something else, so I only caught a few of the lyrics. I initially thought it was a joke song directed at a person made of candy, the joke being that "Sweet Bod" was just an objective observation if that makes any sense. I then kind of forgot about it and moved on to other stuff. A few months later I decided to revisit and actually pay attention to it and the realization of what the song was really about hit me like a steamroller. It's another very dark Lemon Demon song with bright, poppy music and I love it. Also, just like Bill Watterson, it is very catchy, but I have to restrain myself from singing it under my breath when it gets stuck in my head because of the lyrics. 7. Nothing Worth Loving Isn't Askew Basically the same things you said in this video. I love how laid-back and relaxed this song is, and of course, the lyrics are great as well. My personal favorite is "You are muscle, flesh and bone, living in a land of automobiles. If you ever lose your shoes, all you gotta do is just click your heels." 6. Word Disassociation This song makes words lose their meanings and focuses on the way they sound, and I love that. My favorite combinations are "semiautomatic aqua" and "unsophisticated clockwise". 5. Fine I enjoy the trope of the character who is surrounded by chaos but remains oblivious and/or cheerful and this song is the embodiment of that trope for me. I also like the different interpretations you can read from this song. For example it could be an optimistic person trying to make the best of the Earth's last moments, a political or religious leader trying to keep their followers faithful in the apocalypse, or simply read as an encouraging reminder to keep your head up when the world feels like it's crashing down. 4. One Weird Tip This song sounds so unique, chaotic, and sinister, and the vocal effects Neil use fit the tone perfectly. This song is the sound of a thousand popups taking over your computer and glitching themselves beyond recognition before you can even read them. It's like a digital, bug-ridden villain song. 3. Soft Fuzzy Man This song is so high-energy, catchy, and fun that I just adore it. It's the kind of song you just want to blast in your house with no regard for the neighbors while dancing with no regard for what good dance moves look like. 2. No Eyed Girl I love how this song just takes its insane premise and goes with it, creating something genuinely sweet and touching. Also, it is so much fun to sing along to. 1. Everybody Likes You A remix of basically one phrase from Care Bears repeated over and over again has no right to be this good. I see this song as either about loneliness, insecurity, trust issues, and paranoia reflected in a unique way I've never seen before or absolutely nothing at all, and I find that hilarious. I can't believe I love it so much, and I definitely can't believe I was able to find a possible meaning in it (if it even has one).

I’m in a HUGE Lemon Demon phase right now and seeing this, plus how passionate you are as a fan of him, made my day!! I can’t mention Neil without remembering how back in 2019, I listened to Spirit Phone and Ziggy Stardust to see which one I liked better, fell head first into the Bowie fandom, then went into Oingo Boingo, DEVO, and New Wave as a whole, then circled back into Lemon Demon and the rest of his portfolio of work. I have hope that in the future he’ll be regarded like David Bowie in the way that he’s a pioneer of Internet culture, and the “HE MADE THAT??!!” Factor. I call it “Cicierega-piphany”. I had this sitting in my Watch Later folder for about a day or so and I have to say… you’ve earned yourself a subscriber!! Also- Neil’s alright with people using his music for their own personal projects as long as it isn’t monetized, but in this ever-constricting platform it’s better safe than sorry ;w; Is this the Fear Of Music the Heads were Talking about?

My favorite is definitely Eighth Wonder, and knowing their about that Wikipedia page only makes me love this song more! But I wanted to shout out Cabinet Man and Re-Design Your Logo as beautiful songs with brilliant premises. A song made to sound like a love song but about the life of an arcade Cabinet is one of a kind. And a song about how designs have become so minimalist but instantly recognizable and how scummy the people who market those designs are. I have no idea how Neil thinks of these things but he is a genius. I have Spirit Phone on Cassette from Needle Juice because it's just a solid album from start to finish. Great video!

off the top of my head, I really love The Ocean, The Machine, Angry People and Ancient Aliens. The Ocean is just. such a fun little song that makes me feel like I'm in some book on a sketchy journey across the sea. And realistically, I would probably die, but I'm the main character so I'll be fine. The Machine and Ancient Aliens are just. so so fucking fun to sing to because of how fun and weirdly intense they are at the same time. The story in each of these builds into a super satisfying climax, and I end up taking these fun songs just super seriously as I passionately recite, "You seem surprised that I don't hear you..." like bro you didn't have to do that you didn't have to make me feel so passionately for these strange little characters in these songs i feel like I'm singing to warrior cat AMVs in middle school again Angry People is just fun because it goes TURNING INTO WOLVES!!!! TURNING INTO TIGERS!!!! TURNING INTO WOLVES!!!! TURNING INTO TIGERS!!!! after talking about an evil baby killing you, her father. This song feels engineered to release your inner wrath into the atmosphere and leaves you feeling giddy. :)

I wish I could try my hand at making my own top ten list for Lemon Demon, I adore Neil's musical style... but I feel like I wouldn't be as strong as you were when it came to sticking to things specifically under the Lemon Demon name. Like I know for a FACT that my number one song would be Aaron - I love the continously evolving chord progression and the wild excursions it takes you on, the way it builds this tension that never quite releases, also the music video is an absolute fever dream and something I revisit a LOT (esp when I'm understimulated and need a creative shock to the system)

Great video! Your picks were really awesome, and I love pretty much every song you put on here! In no particular order, my favorite 10 LD songs: 10- Dance Like an Idiot I wish Lemon Demon were mainstream just so that I could go to a party and suddenly this comes on, banger 9- Geeks in Love I need to listen to this song more often, any time I listen to it I just get a warm bubbly feeling inside, beautiful song 8- My Trains This is not a song. This is an experience. The first time I listened to this song it was like an absolute rollercoaster, I didn't even know what to think of it. But I kind of just started listening to it again and again, and eventually decided that Neil rapping about getting revenge on a dude who trashed his trains by shrinking down and clogging his arteries was pretty swag B) 7- Rainwater It took a little bit for this song to grow on me. The vocal effects at the end eventually won me over though, and the rest of the song just sounds too cool to dislike 6- Eyewishes I love the kind of groovy guitar riffs mixed with the melancholic synths and depressing lyrics, I love it a ton more than Bystanding, and honestly I'd listen to Eyewishes way more than Bystanding if they weren't grouped together on Spotify. I honestly thought a good portion of Dinosaurchestra sounded kinda samey[Lawnmower and Stuck, despite how much I love the premises to both of those songs, are some of my least favorites of the LD discography], but this one sticks out so much in the best way possible 5- Really Cool Wig I just love how absolutely upbeat and insane this song is, especially on the chorus. I think I headbang to this song so much I have brain damage
