I have a similar but way more niche microgenre that I call “Gnome Songs”. Which are songs about cryptids & creatures that don’t really do anything in the song. Examples would of course be Bowie & Pink Floyd’s Gnome Songs and Black Sabbath’s The Wizard who is delightfully described as “doing his magic” and just generally “walking by” For tupperware music I’d like to suggest Danger Doom’s Vats of Urine which is about exactly what it sounds like “everyone’s talking about pistols, gats is boring, got a new topic to flip you, vats of urine”

"Celebration of the mundane or the never before" is such a good definition. Thanks for including my suggestion; I love Aesop Rock so much, and Skelethon is basically full of tupperware stuff. A moment on that album that never fails to tickle me is how the song 1000 O'Clock opens with the line "I wear shoes to bed". Also: I love the way you pronounced my name, hahahahaha! In Hungarian the "cs" is actually pronounced like the "ch" in "cheese".

One thing to note is that Tupperware music seems to be very heavily inspired by the lyrics and subject matter, and not too much into the sound of music. So arguably Tupperware music could SOUND like any genre, as long as it had lyrics that fit the criteria. So, sadly, instrumental music likely won’t be Tupperware :( But alas, we got songs like Dunkin Hills Coffee Jingle by Dethklok, or Melonella by Cocteau Twins. :D lol I’m also sure there is something by P-Model or Susumu Hirasawa that would fit there too as i have seen his lyrical themes be based on literal computers and data lol, but it’s been a while and idk Japanese 😭

Depending on how far we'd be willing to stretch the definition, would Brian Eno's Music for Airports count as Tupperware music? There aren't the lyrics needed for each song to be classically "about" something, but the album as a whole has a concept unique enough to count in my eyes.

I would sorta consider what I make Tupperware music. I hate putting myself out here like this but I think you’d find what I make interesting. I purposefully make bad music using GarageBand, and whatever idea comes to mind, I just make it because it’s fun and funny. I’ve talked about that call of duty BO2 zombies map tranzit. That was my first ever song. a song about a “Butterfly Bacon recipe” (whatever the hell that is), and an immature song about if the listener poops enough. Once again I really hate putting myself out here like this but I really do think you’d get something out of it if you try what I make, I would love to hear your genuine thoughts. I go by Mr. Jo, I would recommend my album Roofus if you do look into it!

I can think of at least one other song about spinal meningitis- one of the Squidbillies themes had the lyrics "Somehow I got spinal meningitis, injecting all that hairspray in my spine. Its a super cheap way to party, if you aim to kill some braincells and some time". One of the first songs I thought of that could probably be considered a Tupperware song is "Rats" by Rasputina. Its about how the Bolivians asked the Pope to declare capybaras to be "fish" so that they could eat them on Fridays. There's a lot of Rasputina songs that could probably qualify as Tupperware songs, but I think Rats is probably the most Tupperwarey song of all of them.

Check out the music of Position Normal from here in the UK. Also/ Ivor Cutler’s songs make an art form of the mundane. There’s also a Venetian Snares song called “Donuts” which samples a woman talking about ‘the donut, on the glass plate’ and sometimes ‘only the glass plate’. Since you showed XTC I ought to mention Pink Thing, in which the inner serenades his penis. (I think Tupperware music will often transgress one of other of society’s mores). My favourite Tupperware song would have to be Fish Heads - which I think shows, Tupperware music is often baffling, and at the very least, loaded with mystery.

There probably needs to be a ruling on whether to include or separate early punk from tupperware; to me at least, The Ramones (and for that matter, The Dictators) songs about kitsch (Chainsaw, I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement, I Wanna be Sedated, Now I wanna Sniff Some Glue, Rockaway Beach) has a slightly different aesthetic, but it's similar enough in many respects that I'm not against it being included. Weasel Stomping Day feels like a tribute to Frank Zappa (if not in musical style, then just in the grotesque imagery of Zappa's Weasels Ripped My Flesh album). I still think you should look at Amy Arena's self-titled album (the one where she's nude on the cover with an American flag illustration censoring her), whether just as tupperware or for the worst album series (though I don't think it's all that bad and in fact listened to it again today and enjoyed it--it's hilariously, artlessly blunt, vacillates randomly between industrial rock and the oversexed riot grrl punk of Exile in Guyville era Liz Phair, and is filled with more gross-out humor (or "humor," depending on your own sense of humor) than any four South Park episodes and might be a bit homophobic or TERF (it's from the mid-1990s). Oldie but goodie, Spike Jones' Never Hit Your Grandma with a Shovel from the 1930s or 1940s. It's nowhere near as shocking as a Zappa or Tom Lehrer track, but I still get a kick out of a barbershop quartet singing about the virtues of pasting your dear old sweet old grandma with a rock instead of a shovel. Heavy Trash--Gatorade. No hints as to what that one's about, just listen to it. The Vandals--Anarchy Burger Big Black--Power of the Independent Trucker or Bad Penny Straight Outta Junior High--It's a Brand New Day (aka the Valtrex song, with lyrics like "I can go skiing now, the lesions are gone!") MC Lars--Space Game and Speck--Conventional Lover (two songs about nerd culture) The Dictators--Two Tub Man or Master Race Rock Cream--SWLABR (aka She Walks Like a Bearded Rainbow) The Red Krayola--Transparent Radiation (subtitled Red Signs Outside, Which I Contain) Relative Ash--5:30 (from one of the best nu-metal albums ever, in my opinion) It feels sacrilegious, but fuck it: Black Sabbath--Sweet Leaf, a love song to Mary Jane.

as a huge TMBG fan of many many many years, it is unsurprising that tupperware music is "normal music" to me hahaha, perhaps even to my detriment as i assumed the Talking Heads song "Popsicle" was literally about popsicles for over a decade, totally missing the innuendo bc why wouldn't this song be about enjoying a popsicle on a hot summer day? totally normal thing to write a song about :) turns out i have taken a lot of songs too literally/missed innuendos bc of similar reasons........... anyways for a tupperware song suggestion: "Jean-Luc Picard" by Sexy Finger Champs....I have yet to hear another song with the same subject matter......

I know Limp Bizkit is probably next, but I wanted to put this on your radar if you haven’t heard it, as a potential contender for a worst album ever made video. Have you ever heard of “zero tolerance for silence” by Pat Metheny? Tbh, I don’t find the second half that bad (but I mean I listen to noise music and buckethead so lol), but for some reason, the first track that is 18 minutes is absolutely unlistenable and like annoying to hear. I can’t explain it. I understand why Pat did this album, but Something about that first track feels relentlessly annoying, and if anything, I wondered if you felt the same lol
